No School: February 14th and 17th!
Newsletters will be available at the school, Community Library, in businesses, and at Suppesville Gas Station.
We will send newsletters via e-mail attachment monthly to all households with students enrolled at Norwich
School. If you wish to be added to the e-mail list and you do not have a student enrolled, please contact Megan
Dheming at the school (620-478-2235, [email protected]), and we will add you to our e-mail
newsletter list. The newsletter will also be posted on the Norwich School Website monthly
(www.knusd331.com).
When a student needs to ride home from an activity with a parent the Transportation Request form is needed 24 hours in advance. This form is posted on the school website under parents tab.
WHERE TO LISTEN
With the winter months ahead, it would be wise to review where you should listen to find out if school will be
dismissed in case of bad weather. We make every effort to make this decision prior to the start of bus routes,
but sometimes this is not possible. If we do not have school because of the weather, the following radio and
T.V. stations will be notified:
TV: KSN - 3, KAKE - 10, KWCH - 12
KEYN-FM (103.7) KZSN-FM (102.1) KZCH (96.3) KHCC-FM (90.1)
KRBB B98FM (97.9) KTHR-FM (107.3) KHMY FM (93.1) KNSS-AM (1330)
KFBZ-FM (105.3) KLIO-AM (1070) KFDI-FM (101.3) KFTI-FM (92.3)
KYQQ-FM (106.5) KHUT-FM (102.9) KQZQ-FM (98.3) KFXJ-FM (104.5)
KICT-FM (T95) KDGS-FM (93.9)
Parents should receive an e-mail notice and/or phone call through the Skyward messaging system. If you
do not receive this message, please contact the school office.
Again, we ask that parents who work please contact their child’s teacher with instructions as to where the child
should go if we close school during the day and nobody is home. This is extremely important for the younger
students. The district has established a mud route procedure again this year. As you are aware, there are a number
of roads in the district that become impassable under certain weather conditions. When the mud route procedure is
in place, the parents will be contacted and pick-up points will be established that can be reached by our buses. This
procedure was established with the safety of children in mind. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly
appreciated

News from the Counselor’s Office
STATE OF KANSAS SPONSORED ACT and Work Keys KSDE is sponsoring a state-wide ACT and Work Keys initiative, allowing ALL juniors to take the ACT on Tuesday, February 25. Registration for the ACT will be on paper, and completed here at school. Students will NOT register through their online student ACT account. Only juniors and seniors who have not taken the ACT are eligible for this test.
All juniors and seniors will be able to take a free ACT Work Keys assessment starting Tuesday, March 3. Work Keys is a career readiness certification that never expires, and endorses abilities and skills in workplace documents, applied math and graphic literacy. Some businesses even offer a better hourly wage with Work Keys certification! More information regarding these opportunities will be shared with students as they come available. Local Scholarships Seniors should be busy working on local scholarship applications. For the latest additions, please check the counselor web page. Norwich School > Counseling – Carla Hibbs > Local Scholarships. Additional scholarships are listed under the State and University Scholarships link. Mrs. Hibbs also emails numerous applications out to the senior class – good luck pursuing that money!
Attention current sophomores and juniors!

All students have completed a career interest inventory and career related lessons. The next step with Xello is working on a four-year education plan; identifying those courses that align with interests and future plans and deciding what year to enroll in each. Spring conferences will revolve around this information. We want to share all this work with parents as well as obtain approval on course requests for next year. We look forward to seeing you at February conferences!

The yearbook staff is the decision-making board that takes the yearbook course and receives an elective credit and the possibility of lettering. Other 9-12 high school students have the opportunity to sign up as yearbook club members. They participate and help in a variety of ways, but are not in the course. A core group of upperclassmen (10-12) is NEEDED to replace the leadership that has begun this student-led club. These leaders may be editors of specified areas or full staff. The positions that need filled are: Photography Editor: Take photos, upload/download photos, oversee scheduling of club

Please encourage students to consider applying for the editor positions and pre-enrolling in Digital Media and Design (aka Yearbook) when completing their course plan on Xello. Check out a sneak peek of the fall junior high sports page featured here. Staff members are putting in many hours and have a goal of each completing one double page spread a week. If you see them out and about please let them know, you appreciate their efforts. Staff continues to encourage students, parents, and patrons to share
their high-resolution photos of events. Credit will be given for photos used. You may email or use the ReplayIt.com resource. With only three staff members, your help is greatly needed and appreciated. There is also a free app available. Thank you for supporting the 2020 yearbook staff.
Parent Teacher Conferences Elementary Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are excited to welcome you to our spring parent teacher conferences. Kids do better in school when parents
are involved. Attending parent-teacher conferences is one way to be involved and help your child succeed. A
parent-teacher conference is a great opportunity to:
1. discuss your child’s progress
2. share your child’s strengths and needs
3. work with the teacher to help your child do well in school
I encourage all of you to sign up to meet with your child’s teacher through Skyward Family Access. Most
conferences are scheduled for February 10th and 12th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Due to several school activities
during the week, some teacher’s schedules have changed and you will see that reflected in Skyward. If the
dates/times listed will not work for you, please contact your child’s teacher to see if another date can be
scheduled. It takes all of us working together as a team to make the best education possible for our students. It
is our goal to meet with 100% of our parents this spring. Please help us reach our goal!
If you have any questions or difficulty signing up please feel free to contact the school for assistance.
Sincerely,
Heidi Howard
PK-6 Principal
Norwich School
High School Dear Parents/Guardians:
Please review the following in reference to our upcoming conferences on February 10th and 12th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. each evening. High School students will be directing student led conferences between the times of 5:00-6:00 pm and 7:00-8:00 pm both nights. As a guardian you will be able to sign up for a designated fifteen minute slot to meet with your students seminar teacher regarding college and career readiness, current grades and assessment, and schedule projections. The state’s evaluation of effectiveness for our students is determined by the post graduate success of each student following their graduation from NHS.
Middle school conferences will be similar to the high school. Parents need to schedule middle school conferences with seminar teachers. Both middle school and high school seminar teachers will follow the same schedule format with a block in the middle dedicated to open conference time.
Parents will be asked to sign up for a time slot through Skyward with your high school and middle school student’s seminar teacher. Please note that conferences will be held in teachers’ classrooms. If these scheduled times do not fit please contact your student’s seminar teacher for alternatives.
