Also the play equipment is completed. Customer Service— After 14 years of loyal service to the City of Port Lavaca, Juanita Benavides retired on April 30th. We wish her the very best on her retirement. Fire Department—The Council approved the purchase of a 2015 Skeeter truck which will be equipped with a rescue side body utiliz- ing the transfer of $150,000 made by Calhoun County. Public Works—CR 101 will be repaired by a partnership with the County. The City will buy the materials and the County will provide the equipment and manpower. Work will begin on June 16th. Permits—Council passed an ordinance creating a new section of the city code of ordinances; Establishing a process for the issuance of trespass warnings on public property; Providing notice requirements for trespass warnings; Establishing an appeal process for trespass warnings; Providing for a special magistrate to hear appeals from is- sued trespass warnings; Providing for the severability of parts hereof; providing an effective date. Economic Development—City Council approved adding a full time city position to focus on the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan and Tourism initiatives. The Strategic Plan would include new business attraction, existing industry relationship building, tourism development, and downtown development. Port Commission—Ms. Kendra Rodriguez Marquez who had served on the City’s Planning Board since 2009 was approved by City Coun- cil on April 14th to serve on the Port Commission Board. She was sworn in at Port Commission meeting on May 15, 2014.

Victoria, Texas in order to be prepared.

incumbent Floyd

Felder in the election

to represent District 1

on the Port Lavaca City Council for the next three

years.

Wednesday, May 14th the returns were canvassed

and announced official vote, to consider resolu-

tion certifying returns and declaring candidate

duly elected. The results tabulated had 144 votes

for Smith and 42 for Felder.

Councilman Smith will be sworn in at the June

9th City Council meeting at 6:30 P.M.

25th she was hon-

ored with a retire-

ment reception in the

City Council Cham-

bers at City Hall. The City Staff presented her

with a beautiful James Avery Nautical bracelet

and a beautiful silver touch clock from Things Re-

membered. The City presented her with a beauti-

ful plaque for her years of service at the City

Council meeting on May 12th. We wish her well

in her new adventures.

June 30th Dorothy Cunning-

ham, Executive Assistant to

the City Manager will retire

after 25 years of service.

Dorothy was the Manager of

the Bauer Community Center

from July 1989 until January

2002. January 2002 she was

transferred to City Hall as Mu-

nicipal Court Clerk and four

months later promoted to

Executive Assistant to City

Manager. Dorothy has been involved in several organiza-

tions such as the Main Street Committee, the City's

Christmas Committee and she is Safety Coordinator for

the City of Port Lavaca. She was Treasurer for Port

Lavaca Crime Stoppers for seven years. Dorothy was

very active with the Chamber of Commerce, while work-

ing at the Bauer Center, she worked on several of the

Chamber sponsored committees.

Note from Dorothy:

As I leave the City it is with great excitement and yet

sadness too. I have enjoyed my tenure with the City and

I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with

such great co-workers. Even though I will miss my co-

workers and friends in Port Lavaca, I am looking for-

ward to starting a new phase of my life. I will keep busy

visiting my children, grandkids and working in my

flower gardens.
