FROM THE FRONT SEAT

A message from the Club President, Brian Brooks

PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hi all, This month we had our midyear lunch at the Gamekeepers country inn. Attendance was really good with 37 members coming along and enjoying the day. Highlight was seeing Theresa and Jamie’s A30 convertible and Chris and Nanette Saari’s recently restored A30 Countryman both really nice cars. It was also good to catch up with them after so many phone calls. Also good to see Bob Laughton looking well again and the welcome return of his “On the Road” feature article in A30 Minutes. On the last weekend in July club members assisted in wrecking the A30 sedan in Plenty (North east of Melbourne). This will boost our spares supply so if you’re looking for parts give either myself or Don Jones a call. We are about to have our long awaited committee meeting at the start of August and will keep you posted on new ideas and events that come out of it. Also please consider the upcoming events as there are some interesting things to do with the club. If you have any ideas for club events – please tell a committee member. Stay safe and enjoy your cars. Brian Brooks

MID YEAR LUNCH AT GAMEKEEPERS SECRET COUNTRY INN

22 JULY 2012 It was a cold morning in Melbourne, 8.6deg at our house in Rosanna, as we left for our mid year lunch at The Gamekeepers Secret Country Inn in Rockbank. There were already a few A30’s in the car park including a Convertible as we arrived. It was a newly acquired vehicle belonging to Teresa and James Morgan, the only convertible in our Club. It is Teresa’s pride and joy and she was enthusiastic to tell us all about the history of the car. It is in immaculate condition and they drove from Lancefield in Central Victoria to show it off. Chris & Nanette Saari drove from Bendigo in their Countryman, Tom & Dot Bacon and Brian & Pauline Brooks came in their A30 sedans. Russell & Judy Clough, David Hamilton & Julie and came in their Countryman and Fred & I in our van. Bob Dickson bought his Mum Jessie, Maxine & Jim Fowler, David Linke & Vivien, Dianne McKennie, Mario Napoleone, Paul & Nina Ilko. Pam & Warren Barry, Don & Sue Jones with their two sons and girlfriends and Bob & Imelda Laughton and daughter Charizma from Maroopna all travelled a long way for our gathering. The atmosphere inside the Gamekeepers Inn was that of an old English style pub and everyone mingled during the afternoon and had a good time. It was great to see so many members together. We watched Teresa & James rug up for the drive home, see photo attached. Tom & Dot invited everyone back to their home for late after-noon tea. Thank you. Annette Brauneis

Bob is a long time member of the A30 club. His on going letters each month began with the Editor at the time mentioning more items for the newsletter were required That is how Bob became involved in contributing to our magazine on a regular basis.

———————————————————————————- G’Day, After being away with the Fairies for a little while I’m back and running on all 4 cylinders again -even if it is only a 803 . On the home front Charizma did not Make it to the Grand Final in the basketball. In the preliminary final they went down by 2 points ,after leading all the game except for the last 2 minutes. Charizma played “OK .“They all fumbled and panicked with the victory in sight. That’s the way the cookie crumbled! Locky had a small—make shift season of 12 games, loosing a 11 but getting up in the last game . What a game it was ,one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The other team were trying to intimidate the Refs and the Dragon flys with abusive manor , shirt pulling, gestures etc. The refs were so weak they should have sent some players out of the building. The Dragon flys had a 4 point lead at half time and went on to win by just 2 points. Locky , cool and calm as always played a top game and easily the best on the court. Well I’ve always thought Vic Roads were the biggest dumbest Mob in Victoria. Now they have some-one to hold their hand . None other than the well established bran we all know RACV. Now if you have received your house insurance bill check it quick. Ours went from ( 1 House ) $500 to $5000 wot a joke son. The RACV office in Shepparton is just one of where people are all marching in and cancelling their policies, House and cars. We have been good Loyal customers—2 homes , 4 cars but we won’t insure with them any more. The Murchison Grasshoppers will make it to the finals. Nagambie and Lancaster I believe will fight out the GrandFinal . The Hoppers 3rd. Lockys playing Ok in the backline but wants a run up forward . The coach says No . The Hoppers have only lost 2 games to Lancaster and Nagambie. Imee , Charizma and myself came down for the “Christmas In July” dinner And what a great day it was. More than 30 people ,some in Austins, but we came in the semi modern. Our round trip was 421 Km . The weather was nice When we left home but just past Seymour it started to rain all the way to Bunker Hill ( Shell )Donny brook. It cleared up towards Melton. There was no rain on the way home. Some time a trip that long seems to take no time , but not that day . Never thought I was going to get to Lunch and then the drag home.

ON THE ROAD CONTINUED All was OK. The old Citroen ran good may be I’me running on 3 ? Well Ford are in all sorts of trouble as the Falcon sales take a dive. What a pity. I believe it is the pick of the Australian cars. Poor promotion Of their LPG models has been a problem for at least 10 years . Dropping The Falcon Station wagon and the albility to not get up with a bigger ( but not too big) diesel engine . The imports are taking over . Commodore sales are at a 30 year low. Hardly seen an Aurion not good for our industry. I thought the Govt trying to help out was OK . Where does it Stop. As soon as the Big 3 start making a profit it all goes overseas. I know ABS holders get some benefits. A little more for OZY products Might help a little. I also notice Citreon and Peugeot are putting off 8000 Workers in France. They will still build cars in China and India. Citreon has a good sales base in China. We have entered the A30 in the Bay to Birdwood and Graeme Mc Intosh Is coming over to support and be official “ Camera Man “. He is good At that . We don’t anticipate any problems with the cars . We will take a few spares ,oil and petrol. Graeme moves along faster than us. His van has a bigger engine. It just means we have to get up early to get the KM’s in. Imee will take 7 or 8 days off work. It is still dry up this way. The last two months some rain has fallen. No where near the average . Crops are looking not so bad. Everything is green. Some skinny Dairy Cows about . Lots of Hay being fed out. G’Day BOB Enjoy ya Austins – But check your RACV policies quick !!

Brian Brooks on 0413 304 585

If you have parts to donate – or have parts that you may want to sell – please let us know so that we can either purchase on behalf of the Club, or include them in our spreadsheet and put you in touch with a buyer when we receive an enquiry.
