This Friday, we will farewell Jessica Townsend (Foundation teacher) as she heads off on maternity leave. We wish Jess all the best with her new motherhood role!!

Respectful Relationships - Curriculum

Last week, we outlined the background behind the Respectful Relationships curriculum. This curriculum in schools is called Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR). It covers eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all primary and secondary education

The eight topics include:

1. Emotional Literacy 2. Personal strengths

3. Positive coping 4. Problem solving

5. Stress management 6. Help - seeking

7. Gender and identity 8. Positive gender relations

No. 32 ~ November 13, 2017

Engage Learning * Expand Minds

Page 2: No. 32 ~ November 13, 2017 - Wodonga Primary School...Challenge - the cans are given to needy families in our local area. Last year, our school collected over 900 cans in a week! This

The curriculum supports students to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, to build and manage safe and respectful relationships.

Specific information around the curriculum can be found at http://fuse.education.vic.gov.au (search for Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships)

At Wodonga PS, we have been teaching the Respectful Relationships through our Whole School Wellbeing foci. This term’s focus has been on Identity, with recognition that understanding your cultural identity helps build your own individual identity. It also helps build a positive self-esteem and gives you a sense of belonging to a community or group. Today at assembly, students shared their work around Identity.

One Can Can Challenge – Wodonga Federation of Government Schools

Each year, Wodonga PS participates in the One Can Can Challenge. This challenge encourages families to consider

purchasing one extra food can and donating to the One Can Can Challenge - the cans are given to needy families in our local area. Last year, our school collected over 900 cans in a week! This year we are getting classrooms to set a target and ‘go for it’!! The One Can Challenge will commence next Monday 20th November and run until 27th November. All Federation schools are participating this year to support our local community!

2018 School Council

This time of year is a good chance to consider if you are able to join the School Council for the following year. School Council is the major governing body of the school. It plays an important role in school accountability and improvement processes, and endorses the key school planning, evaluation and reporting documents. One of School Council’s main objectives is to enhance the educational opportunities for all students. School Council comprises a combination of Department of Education and Training (DET) employees and parents and meets a minimum of eight times a year. School Councillors take on the role for two years and each year half of the members finish their role and the position is re-advertised. If you are interested in being part of the 2018-2019 School Council, I encourage you to make contact with me to discuss further. ~ Pam Martin

Student Behaviour - toilets

At Wodonga PS, we set high expectations around behaviour – unfortunately, some students are behaving inappropriately in our toilet areas which impacts on both students and the facilities. We are currently working with students to remind them of the expectations when in the toilet areas. We would appreciate parents discussing the importance of using the toilets in an appropriate manner and reinforcing that they are not a play space. Thanks for your support.

Somers Camp

Although we have been unable to share any camp photos with you, our Camp Teacher – Lisa De Luca, assures us they are all having a fantastic time, and that Marco was one of last night’s dance competition winners! Only two more days of camp activities left and they will be back at school to share their stories with us.

Parent Direct Toy Fundraiser

Parent Direct is an online toy store supported by Modern Teaching Aids (also affiliated with the Woolworths Earn & Learn campaign). We have been given a small number of catalogues which have been distributed to the lower school levels, other catalogues are available from the school office on request. Parents are able to order from a huge range of toys, shopping 24/7 from the comfort of your home, and delivered directly to your door. Just be ordering toys through parent Direct, up to 25c from every dollar spent will be given back to Wodonga Primary when you indicate this at the checkout. We also earn a bonus of $200 for every 20 orders. What a fantastic way to enjoy your Christmas shopping while also fundraising for our school.

Vacation Care Program

January 2018 Sun Safety: Children are required to wear sun safe clothing during January Vacation Care. Sunscreen will be applied at regular intervals during the day. The centre uses the Woolworths brand ‘Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50+’, if your child requires a different brand, please provide it in a clearly labelled container. Children must also wear sensible shoes for walking and playing (i.e. enclosed shoes or joggers) and bring a wide-brimmed hat and drink bottle each day. Thongs and slip-on style shoes are not permitted and children will not be permitted to attend if incorrect footwear is worn.

Hand-held video games: Children are not permitted to use mobile phones, hand-held gaming consoles, or electronic music devices at Club 37 at any time. Club 37 is not responsible for any breakages or lost property.

Hours of operation: Club 37 is open for Vacation Care from 7.00am till 6.00pm from Monday 8th January to Monday 29th January (excluding the Australia Day Public Holiday). Bookings are essential, as places are limited.

Supervision: Club 37 is approved for a maximum of 75 school age children per day, however limitations may be placed on maximum number of enrolments due to staffing or transport requirements. Staff to child ratios of 1:15 are maintained during centre days, with increased supervision on excursions. A Risk Assessment is conducted prior to each excursion and is available for parents to view upon request. A Responsible Person holding their First Aid, Child Protection, Asthma & Anaphylaxis certificate will be rostered on at all times throughout the day.

Bookings: Booking forms can be returned to Club 37 via email or in person either to the school administration team or to the Floor Supervisor at Club 37. Please note: Verbal bookings will not be accepted. Bookings open 6.30am Monday 13th November. Please note: Bookings received prior to this time will not be accepted. Any bookings made prior to this time will be required to resubmit after 06.30am. Bookings will be allocated by order of receipt. Bookings will close 6.00pm Friday 24th November. Once your booking has been accepted you will receive a Confirmation of Booking Report, and your invoice. In the case that a day becomes booked out, a waiting list will be prepared and parents will be notified if a place becomes available. Bookings will not be accepted if your account is not paid up until 19th November 2017.

Payment: The cost per day for in-centre activities is $40 per child. Please note that additional costs may apply to some ‘in centre’ activities and excursions (Please see the program for these additional charges). You will be issued an invoice on Wednesday 6th December . All payments for the Club 37 Vacation Care Program are due Friday 15th December. Payment includes daily attendance and extra costs for excursions.

Child Care Benefit (CCB): CCB is available to registered parents for Vacation Care. Please contact Family Assistance Office (FAO) on 136 150 to be CCB assessed. You will need to provide Club 37 with your Customer Reference Numbers for both yourself and your child/ren.

Cancellations: Please notify the Centre of any cancellations as soon as possible. Cancellations made 5 working days prior to the booked session will not incur a fee. For all cancellations made within 5 working days, a $5 Administration Fee (per child) will be applied. Cancellations within 24 hours of a booked session, and absences without notification will attract a $20 fee (per child).

Club 37’s Vacation Care Program: We are aware that sometimes programmed activities will not appeal to all children. Be assured that wherever possible we try to provide alternative activities such as craft, games or movies. There are also opportunities for children to assist with activities even if they do not wish to take part in the actual activity.

Program variations: The Vacation Care program is subject to change without notice if it is deemed in the best interests of children. E.g. changes to program on wet weather days. Should an excursion change, parents will be required to sign their permission for the new excursion prior to child attending.

Medication: If your child requires medication an Administration of Medication form must be completed on each day that the medication is to be administered. Please note that no over-the counter medication will be given. Medication must be provided in original packaging with the child’s correct name and will be administered as per dosage instructions. Please direct all medication to the Floor Supervisor. Please ensure you arrange for any medications held with the School Office to be transferred to Club 37 for Vacation Care (eg. Asthma puffers)

Food: Please pack a nutritious morning tea, lunch and some snacks for your children on all days. Afternoon tea is provided and lunch is provided only on some days (see program for days where lunch is provided). Please supply a drink bottle, and ensure that your child has adequate food, as Vacation Care days are active and long and the children do get quite hungry. Please do not send noodles or food requiring re-heating to vacation care.

Refrigeration: Please inform staff if any of your child’s food requires refrigeration (e.g. dairy products).

Nut policy: Club 37 endeavours to be a ‘nut free’ centre, as per policy, for the safety of all children. Please do not send any nuts or food products containing nuts to Club 37.

Breakfast: Breakfast is provided between 7.00 – 8.00am during Vacation Care. Breakfast options include toast, weetbix, nutrigrain, cornflakes, rice bubbles and plain milk or milo.

Special diets: If children are on restricted diets due to food allergies etc. parents are advised to provide alternative food for their child as we cannot guarantee that the foods available will be suitable for your child’s needs.

Spending money: Children are not permitted to bring money for an excursion unless the program indicates otherwise as there is no opportunity for them to spend it.
