2019 KFPS News
Dear students, parents and friends, Welcome to Week 9 of this term. This may be the second last week of the Term 3 but we still have a lot happen-ing in these last 2 weeks of school. Please ensure that you are checking the calendar of events in our newsletter and keeping an eye on our LED sign out front to remain in the loop for all the happenings. Well footy finals fever is certainly upon us! I love the footy and with my team making it through to the prelimi-nary finals I am feeling quite pleased. Good Old Collingwood forever, they know how to play the game! Speaking of footy finals…… I wish to congratulate the Kangaroo Flat Under 12 football team who have now pro-gressed to the Grand Final in the football and will play at Harry Trot Oval this coming Saturday. Well done boys! We wish you every success for this coming weekend. Go Roos!!!
Footy Colours Day – Cancer Foundation – Friday, 13th September It’s the Fight Cancer Foundation’s most important fundraising event. Football is all about spirit, strength, courage and the fight to win. Those touched by cancer need the same qualities to win their fight against the disease. Wear your team’s scarf, beanie, jumper or socks etc and make a gold coin donation to help support young people fighting cancer.
Assembly As always we will have our special footy assembly this week. Be sure to wear your footy colours and tune up your voice to sing your favourite football team anthem! All families welcome. Staff leave I wish to inform the school community that Lorraine from the office will be on extended sick leave for the re-mainder of the year. We sincerely wish our lovely Lorraine all the very best as she undergoes treatment for can-cer. We know our extended school community will miss seeing Lorraine’s bright and breezy smile and welcome at the front office. Ange Jobe will be replacing Lorraine in the office until the end of the year and will capably as-sist you with any of your inquiries and needs. Literacy and Numeracy I wish to congratulate our Literacy and Numeracy award winners from last week who have demonstrated great endeavour, effort and achievement in these two areas of the curriculum.
OSLE 2020 If you are currently in Grade 4 or 5 and thinking of applying to be part of the Overseas Learning Experience to China in May/June of next year, then please pick up an application form from the office. Please read the applications carefully to ensure you meet all the requirements and obligations set out for travelling with the Team China group. Applica-tions due to Ms Saddlier by Friday 20th September.
Possum Magic excursion – Foundation students This Friday our Foundation students and their teachers will be heading off to Ulumbarra Theatre for the Possum Magic show. This is such a wonderful opportunity to see a live show and to have fun as you learn. Students will also have a tour of the Goldfields Library as well as participate in a craft and story session. Even though Friday is Footy Colours Day at our school I ask that all of our Foundation students wear their full school uniform on Friday for their excursion. Congratulations Thank you and congratulations to Caroline Sutherland (Tobias Roberts) for completing the Parent Opinion survey and having her name drawn out for her efforts. Caroline has won a voucher for her efforts.

This week both Gumnut and Grevillea students published their final narratives and information reports. They continued to edit and refine their work while typing their texts up on computers. Today students presented their work to Ms Saddlier and Mrs Martin during our group time. Stu-dents have worked very hard to ensure their work is ready for an audience. Well done to all writ-ing group students, you should be very proud of your effort! Gumnut Writer of the Week – Dempster M (Room 5) Congratulations!
Dempster created a very entertaining and exciting narrative about a car chase. He is writer of the week because of the strategies used throughout his text, especially during his tension scene. He has used the rule of three and dynamic dialogue very effectively. Dempster also wrote an excit-ing ending where his hero won and villain failed. Well done Dempster!
Grevillea Writer of the Week – Dylan M (Room 12) Congratulations!
Dylan has created an informative report about electricity. He has worked hard to take on feed-back from the teacher and improve his work. Dylan is the writer if the week because of the strat-egies used, such as painting a picture with work and rhetorical questions to present his facts in an engaging way. Well done Dylan!
Writing Extension Program
REMINDERS: Billabong Camp: It is important that families finalise their payment of the Grade 3/4 Billabong Ranch camp by the end of the week. The final payment is now overdue and we need to confirm all final aspects of the camp. Swimming: Grade 3-6 have their swimming lessons everyday of next week at Gurri Wanyara. Please ensure that your child is prepared for swimming with their bathers, towel, goggles and a spare set of underwear just in case.
Kind Regards, Kim Saddlier – Principal

(Free Speech Pathology Drop-in Clinic for children under school age)
A speech pathology drop-in clinic is a place where families can come to discuss their child’s speech and language concerns without having a referral or a pre-arranged appointment. The service is available for children aged birth to school entry. No appointment is necessary and a 20-30 minute timeslot will be allocated to you on arrival. A brief discussion of your concerns regarding your child’s development will occur, with some suggestions provided to assist your child’s communication.
