    MREs From the COT!

A Friday (6-20) morning departure for Georgia

and Freds Family Weekend at Ft Benning wasplanned to take place well before dawn. A

completely restored Kiboshii was loaded and

packed on Thursday night ALMOST ready to roll, except for one very important ingredient that had

to wait until just before gate time. 3am Friday

found Mother, Joanna and Hikari in the kitchen

packing up all the wonderful, home cooked mealsand home grown vegetables and home baked bread

that had been prepared to go with them. It was quite

amazing to see all the boxes and igloos packed, thevery nice basket set up with breakfast service on the

road, and every ingredient for the planned menus

included for the entire trip. As Mother called them,Meals Ready to Eat from the COT. A lot different

than the MREs at an Army Forward Operations

Base! The hotel room has all the conveniences

necessary to be able to heat, chill and graciouslyserve the carefully prepared and packed meals so

our Field Team will have the comforts of home at

their FOB! And Fred will enjoy home cookin andhome grown tomatoes and vegetables!

    C. and BA were out the gate and on the road

by 3:53 am and we learned yesterday evening(Friday 6-20) that they arrived in Columbus, GA at

4:15 pm our time (5:15pm GA time.) 12 hours and

22 minutes, just as Googles map directions

suggested, and C. drove all the way. I expect beforethis Newsletter goes to press on Monday we will

have more information about their trip for you.

We are very thankful this visit can be made andfor a safe journey all along the way and are

excitedly looking forward to all it will bring forth.

Loading Kiboshii with COT MREs for GA FOB!

An early morning send off at 3:53 am. Were not

dressed up in our good clothes but.

    Andrew Out on Operations Too!

This past week Andrews training group in

Motor Transport Operations went out on LiveConvoy after practicing convoy maneuvers in

class. This exercise takes place over several

days away from quarters and duplicates real battle

scenarios. We learned from Andrew that the firstone of their nights in camp didnt quite go the way

it was supposed to. Instructions had been that if and

when they heard simulated mortar fire coming in tocamp they were all to leave their tents and assemble

at a pre- arranged area for instruction on how to

return fire. Apparently not everyone heard theseinstructions and so Andrew reported that he and

many others stayed in their tent when the camp was

fired on in the middle of the night and, to makematters worse, there were those who even slept

through the shelling! Wow! They were reallytired! Incidentally, it is the ones in the unit that have

had prior Army experience who play the enemy inthese situations and do all they can to catch the new

trainees off guard. The next night, everyone got a

good nights rest because they were going out onLive Fire Convoy the following morning. On

Live Fire, the convoy goes out with live

ammunition to shoot at targets that come up allaround them. Following that they all returned to

quarters to have a shower. They had been going to

practice night driving with night vision devices buta thunder storm precluded that exercise.

    Adeline Lines Up Her Sight

When Adelines MP BCT unit had Basic RifleMarksmanship Adeline did well with the stationary

targets. Her practice time in Vermont with the guns

at the house stood her in good stead. But in a call

last weekend (6-16) she said that she had a verydifficult time with the pop-up targets when they

went to those. Like intrusive otters on a trout pond,

those targets dont just stand there and wait to be

shot! It made her feel very uneasy. And the rockmusic (noise) they play to rev everybody up was a

distraction to her. When she didnt do well though, she was given the chance for a retake. She called on

the Lord and as she did the uneasiness was replaced

with peace about it. Her focus then was only on the

Lord, the rifle, the targets and what she had to do.Her DS said she not only qualified as marksman,

she may even make expert. Thank You, Father for

always being there and always answering yourchildren.

Fred Ready for Family Day and AIT

Fred called last Monday night (6-16) to tell us hehad been released from the hospital and was on

light duty for a time. The very good news was that

he would be making the transition from BCT toAdvanced Individual Training on time in spite of

the parts of BCT he had missed due to illness. He

was told that he could make those things up duringAIT. We were so thankful to hear this and happy for

him. At that time neither he nor we knew that he

was going to have family at his Family Weekend

and completion of BCT ceremony. The weekendincludes a 36 hour off-base pass making him able to

stay at the hotel with them and be blessed in the

company of these members of his family and enjoyall those home cooked meals!

When Mother called Joshus DS to see if there

was any possibility of his being free for a little timeto see C and BA since he had been at Benning for so

long due to his 10 weeks waiting for and having

dental surgery and recuperation before starting

BCT. She was told it wasnt possible because theywere in Total Control phase and if they did it for

one they would have to do it for all. We know

whatever transpires; the total control is theLords!

Things are Heating Up!A letter from Joshu received last Monday (6-16)tells us that the temperatures at Benning on the

training grounds have been 100 degrees every day

lately and it is very humid. As much exercise aspossible is done in the morning or in the shade in

the afternoon. It has often been emphasized that the

Army is very concerned that the soldiers do notsuffer heat exhaustion or stroke. Of course those

coming from south Texas as ours do may stand it a

little better. We are thankful for the precautions they

do take though.Joshu did say that the time he has spent as an

orderly working with the DSs has helped him

understand what is going on in BCT, especiallywhen they purposely throw so much to learn and do

at you that it puts you off balance as Fred called

it. It is the DSs job to tear down the civilian andrebuild you as a soldier. Part of their tactic is to

require more than you can do or learn at one time

and in that environment it is easy to forget thesimplest things, so that too, is taken to the Lord.

Further Education in Electricity for George

Ever since he was big enough to take a clock apart,

George has been studying electricity andelectronics. Books were gotten and read and as the

years went on he delved into every practical

application that he could, determined to learn howthings worked and what to do about it when they

didnt. Directed by the Lord and often with the help

of his mother, brothers and sister, every major

appliance, small appliance, yard equipment,audio/visual device, and vehicle on property, sooner

or later benefited from their ever-expanding

experience. If it had a battery, motor, wires or anengine, it was grist for Georges mill and the life

and useful service of countless things have been

extended way beyond normal standard because of it.He took some things apart and redesigned them to

make them work even better than intended, and

when anything just finally did give up, the useful

parts were saved and frequently have come in sohandy on another project. Shortly before joining the

army, after so much practical application, George

had begun to further study electrical theories and setup experiments to test them. He was so pleased to

report then that the training manual they use for

Helicopter maintenance is extremely compre-hensive, and begins with basic electricity, but so

detailed that he is able to continue to learn much

that he had not known as the Lord continues hiseducation in this field.

He is looking forward to a brief visit with C. and

BA as they return home on Monday (6-23). Fort

Rucker AL is just 106 miles from Ft Benning andright on the way. He has class on Monday until 5:30

pm and must be back at his quarters at 8:00pm so

will have 2 hours to visit which will be a very great

    blessing to him too.

    Yes, we do have Tomatoes!

On Tuesday (6-17), Joanna and Mother took 51pounds of tomatoes and turned them into 9 canned

jars of Spaghetti Sauce and 7 canned jars of tomato

juice! Those of you who have watched orparticipated in this operation in the past know what

a lot is involved in doing that! Blanch them all

briefly in boiling water, plunge them into ice water,

peel them, process them. season them, cook downto the right consistency, pack them into jars and can

them in boiling water. Remove the jars, and when

cool, wash them all off, label and store them forfuture use and for when the troops are home.

Nothing like sauce or juice made from fresh, home

    grown tomatoes!

Just the beginning! Note how perfectly round and

blemish free these tomatoes are! Best ever!

Loading the jars with spaghetti sauce for canning

And dont forget the juice is canned too!

On Friday (6-20), this whole operation was repeated

with another tomato harvest yielding 6 more jars of

Spaghetti sauce! And when Joanna went out towater the garden that evening she reported that there

were at least another 15 jars on the vines getting

    ready to be picked!

Joanna didnt spend all her time in the kitchen this

past week though. She and Barbara Alice went to

Houston on business and they looked so nice wetook this for you to see

Some days arent so dressy! Joanna isblowing the leaves off one of our second story roofs

    story roofs.

    Planting new Heat Wave tomatoes!

Mantis couldnt ask for a better ad!

    The Home Front is

    in training too; as

we learn to do manyof the garden and

    grounds and othermaintenance jobs

the young men andAdeline were doing

    when they were here

We are also learningto use and care for

    the equipment that

they used in muchof what they did.

    We are very

thankful we can dothis, (Why should

    they have all the

    fun!) and for the

    many goodinstructions that

    were left for us.

    We thank ourFather very much

    for the will and the

    way to carry on the

    care of this beautifulCOT!

The Prince Family Herald goes Public

With people in the community asking about how

the Princes are doing in the Army, it was determinedthat the Herald and its accompanying Windows

on the Background should be shared with as manyof the citizenry of Bedias as possible, and there is

one place nearly everyone in town visits regularly,

The First State Bank of Bedias!

So, last Wednesday (6-18), when our banking was

done, Carolyn Acord, Asst.Vice president of the

Bank, was asked if they would like to have a copy

of the issues made available for their patrons to readthere. The issues are very nicely placed in a binder

with a specially designed cover. She replied that she

would be delighted to have them and wanted to readthem herself. A book was left at the bank and will

be updated each week with the latest Herald and

    Windows.

BA and Carolyn presented with the Prince Family

Herald book,A Chronicle of the Prince ChildrensAdventures and Encounters in the US Army.

Scaling the WallJoshu related several things of interest in a letter

we received yesterday (6-21). We were so glad to

hear how thankful he is for the continual healing of

his mouth and for how quickly all areas that need toare closing up. He then gave this account in his

thankfulness about his experience with the 8 wall.

This morning (6-14) there was an 8 wall toscale and slip over. The first time I couldnt get over

it and was sent back to the end of the line to try

again. As I came up to the wall again You (the Lord)

reminded me of the Word, By thee I have leapedover a wall. Sure enough, scaling the wall next

time was a breeze and I went right over. Thank You,

Father for all the ways You show Yourself strong inovercoming the challenges continually and daily.

Thank You, Father for showing Yourself strong now

and always to bring victory in every situation. They also had Combatives training last week.

Success in this course is based on the trainees

ability to implement hand to hand combat infighting matches. We have this course all week with

the final matches on Friday. This took a bit ofasking the Lord about because the idea of fightingas a sport was troubling. If I ever fought someone I

always pictured it to be as mechanical enemies

where the ending of a life was the basic outcome.

So at first it was hard to be especially aggressivewhen it was and is not my intent to injure. But I

had to get over that real quick and just get in and do

what needs to be done. There are plenty of face

guards and padding added to the equation to keeppeople from getting hurt.

In a phone call from Joshu yesterday (6-21) we

did smile over his reaction to extra push-ups.When he went from reception battalion down

range to BCT we needed a new address for him. He

had not had a chance to call Mother so she called

the base to get his updated address and we wereable to include him in that weeks mailing. When

we did get a letter from him we noticed though that

his Roster Number had been added to the addressMother was given. Well, the mail was delivered to

him anyway BUT he had to do punishment push-

ups because we didnt have a Roster Number onthere. (We do now!) However, what the DS doesnt

know is that the push-ups were no punishment to

Joshu, he is glad for every extra bit of PT to get himback in shape and beyond!

    Georges Smorgasbord

When George called home on Thursday night(6-19), he said that he had a written test the next day

on all they have learned so far. He was a bit

concerned about how well he would do. It wascommitted to the Lord before the call was ended

    and Mother said, good night.

This morning, Sunday (6-22), George called tosay that he got a 92 on the test! He says he would

have done one better but he put the dot in the wrong

circle on a question he really did know the rightanswer to. Oh well, no one is complaining! We arevery thankful for this answer to prayer!

He tells us that the first text book part of the

course was completed with the test. NOW they aregetting into the do-it-yourself working part of the

training and George was so excited to describe what

this will entail. They have long work tables all laidout with hydraulic hoses and couplings and fittings

and other such familiar equipment, the kinds of

things he has been working with on the vehicles

built in our shops almost ever since he canremember! Yes! A smorgasbord of parts set before

him that he understands and really enjoys working

with. He says he is very much looking forward tothis. Thank You again, Father, for all the ways You

    have prepared Your children!

(Note: for the ones who may not have heard theterm and cant look it up right now, a smorgasbord

is a Swedish buffet, though the word is commonly

used to describe any array of varied and pleasingitems.)

    A Picture from Ft. Benning!

BA emailed this of Fred. They are having a goodtrip and will have more to relate when home.

    No Fears

Adeline made her weekend call today and passed

on some very timely insights. They had to rappel

down the Warrior Wall this past week and shesaid that, though considered tough, for her this part

of training was fun. She also had the gas chamber

experience this week and got through it fine. Shesaid they were all required to remove their masks

and sing a song to prove they werent holding their

breath. She focused on the Lords Presence there asshe sang the song all the way through. He broughther through it and she had no fear of the

consequences, which could have been even harder

for someone who had pneumonia not long ago. .This is what she is learning, as she sees the fears

others all around her have and live with every day.

Fear of illness, fear of failing, fear of not gettingwhat they want or becoming what they want to be.

Fear of adverse conditions and situations or lack of

comfort that they wont be able to handle, or fear

that they might die before they reach all their goals.Whatever the fears, they all their lives live in

bondage to the fear of death. And it is becoming

very clear to Adeline and to all of us that we donthave to fear anything, as the Lord is with us and

brings us through every challenge, physical, mental

and spiritual. He doesnt make the conditions ideal, instead He shows Himself strong and we grow
