Welcome to NMTC

NMTC was set up in 2000 to offer highly specialised programmes in digital media. Since then, the College has expanded the range of courses to include Film, Photography, Music, Performing Arts and Interactive Media. We offer a wide range of accredited programmes including Edexcel, BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council), City & Guilds and FETAC.At NMTC we maintain professional production facilities on-site and organise work placements with leading industry specialists. Expert course instructors and guest lecturers guarantee that students are kept up-to-date with the latest industry techniques. NMTC encourages a dynamic work ethic which has lead to a highly productive and successful student body. Staff and students have won a number of prestigious awards including the Golden Spiders Irish Internet Awards, Digital Media Awards and Irish Professional Photographers Association Awards. Student films have premiered at festivals in Europe and the US. The College maintains close links with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva. We created a 3D animated logo for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.Students are encouraged to present their work online via the college website and various social networking sites. This online presence significantly helps students achieve success in securing full-time employment in their chosen industry.The College organises events throughout the year where students can meet and form lasting professional and social relationships. Many graduates have set up successful media production partnerships.NMTC is located in the heart of Dublin city centre, adjacent to St. Stephen’s Green. Students can access the excellent resources, history and vibrant social life of this beautiful city.

COURSE OVERVIEWThis certificate is intended to give students a comprehensive overview of digital film production practice and theory. Students will be given opportunities to experiment with new visual ideas and concepts. The programme is suitable for candidates who wish to work within the film/video and new media production sectors. The course will also act as a foundation year for relevant third-level programmes.The course requires full-time attendance for a period of one year.All necessary equipment is provided by the college - including workstations, cameras, sound and lighting equipment. Candidates are required to secure and undertake a work placement during the year as part of the Work Experience module.

COURSE OVERVIEWThe overall aim of the programme is to give graduates from visual arts degrees (or equivalent professional experience) the opportunity to develop and expand their own practice through the making of short of digital animations or films. The course encourages students to locate their work within the growing range of genres of Digital Film and Animation production and to extend the emerging visual grammars of those genres. Whilst the course is located within a fine art discipline, which encourages innovation and experimentation, it is sensitive to the needs of both the arts and industry.

COURSE OVERVIEWThe overall aim of the programme is to give graduates from visual arts degrees (or equivalent professional experience) the opportunity to develop and expand their own practice through the making of photographic work. The course encourages students to locate their work within the growing range and changing genres of photographic practice and to extend the emerging visual grammars of those genres.

COURSE OVERVIEW:The MA By Project is structured so as to offer a variety of specialist opportunities for study within a context of multi and interdisciplinary debate on issues within design, applied arts and visual culture. The program is appropriate for the development of professional practice as well as preparation for further study. The MA by Project course titles are designed to provide an appropriate educational experience at postgraduate level through the execution of an approved programme of work, and to provide students who wish to do so, with the necessary research skills to enable them to register for research degrees. Students will be provided with an environment within which they may orientate their own practices in a structured pedagogical context. The seminars and research methods are designed to open up a range of approaches to the analysis and discussion of students’ research methodologies and strategies in order to foster both analytical, reflective, and evaluative skills, together with the students’ ability to locate their own practice within a critical and theoretical framework. The course is designed to reflect the development of each student’s project. Each module builds upon the learning experience of the modules already taken, while focussing on a range of issues particular to it and the stage of the courses. Each successive module helps to clarify and deepen the understanding of the project by building on past work in a different way. The effect is cumulative. The developmental nature of the courses are reflected in the approach to assessment criteria increase with each assessment.

COURSE OVERVIEWThe MA By Project is structured so as to offer a variety of specialist opportunities for study within a context of multi and interdisciplinary debate on issues within design, applied arts and visual culture. The program is appropriate for the development of professional practice as well as preparation for further study.The MA by Project course titles are designed to provide an appropriate educational experience at postgraduate level through the execution of an approved programme of work, and to provide students who wish to do so, with the necessary research skills to enable them to register for research degrees. Students will be provided with an environment within which they may orientate their own practices in a structured pedagogical context. The seminars and research methods are designed to open up a range of approaches to the analysis and discussion of students’ research methodologies and strategies in order to foster both analytical, reflective, and evaluative skills, together with the students’ ability to locate their own practice within a critical and theoretical framework. The course is designed to reflect the development of each student’s project. Each module builds upon the learning experience of the modules already taken, while focussing on a range of issues particular to it and the stage of the courses. Each successive module helps to clarify and deepen the understanding of the project by building on past work in a different way. The effect is cumulative. The developmental nature of the courses are reflected in the approach to assessment criteria increase with each assessment.

Our courses cater for all skill levels from beginner to expert.

Tutored by industry professionals, these classes provide an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills and to improve existing ones.

The wide range of topics covered includes photography, digital video, music technology animation and web design. Maximum class size for all evening courses is 10 students. B/W PHOTOGRAPHYThis course is aimed at participants who wish to learn more about the art of traditional B & W photography. It will also be of interest to those who wish to learn how to use a 35mm SLR camera; learn about lighting techniques; learn how to develop and print their own B&W photographs.

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTIONThis course has been designed for participants who are looking to learn more about applications of digital technology within traditional film and video production. The course will involve the development, production and edit of a short film, with participants working in small groups.

DSLR HD FILMMAKINGThis course provides users with advanced training in digital filmmaking using a DLSR camera with HD video capabilities. The latest HDSLR cameras require filmmakers to think in terms of cinematography rather than videography. By learning the fundamentals of cinematic-style shooting, DSLR operators can create the HDSLR aesthetic or ‘film look’.

ADOBE FLASHFlash is the leading web animation package. Learn how to create graphics, animate them and control how they behave through this timeline-based tool used for creating animated websites, banners, games and presentations.

ADOBE AFTER EFFECTSThis course is suitable for anyone wishing to learn digital effects creation using After Effects. Training will be given in the use of After Effects for the creation of titles and basic effects. Students will gain hands on experience of 2D and 3D compositing techniques, animation, titles, graphic overlays, masking and colour correction.
