APTIP Results

NMSI Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program (APTIP) schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Virginia have continued to deliver remarkable results. Results from the 2009-2010 school year demonstrate dramatic increases in student achievement: •From 2008 – 2010, there was a 97.2 percent increase in math, science and English AP exams passed in cohort I of NMSI program schools.

•From 2009 – 2010, there was an 84.4 percent increase in math, science and English AP exams passed in cohort II of NMSI program schools.

• From 2008 – 2010 there was an 154.2 percent increase in math, science and English AP exams passed by African American and Hispanic students in Cohort I of NMSI program schools.

•From 2009 – 2010 there was an 107.3 percent increase in math, science and English AP exams passed by African American and Hispanic students in Cohort II of NMSI program schools.

•From 2008 – 2010 there was an 115.8 percent increase in math and science AP exams passed by females in Cohort I of NMSI program schools.

•From 2009 – 2010 there was an 91.5 percent increase in math and science AP exams passed by females in Cohort II of NMSI program schools.

•Since 2008, NMSI’s APTIP program has trained over 6,000 AP and Pre-AP teachers in 227 schools in 158 school districts.

•This fall, NMSI will operating the APTIP program in 356 public high schools, including 32 high schools which are part of our Initiative for Military Families.

The percent increase in AP math, science and English exams passed in Cohort I of NMSI program schools is over seven times the national average.

UTeach Expansion and Results

During the 2010-2011 school year, there were approximately 4,500 students enrolled in the 22 universities implementing UTeach. This year, the UTeach program will expand to 4-6 additional universities.

• The 22 UTeach universities are expected to prepare over 4,500 math and science teachers by 2015 and 7,000 teachers by 2018. These new, highly qualified STEM teachers will have an impact on more than 20 million students over the course of their teaching careers.
