CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT

Writing in ELA Class and Beyond

It has never been easier to spell well! Students spend a lot of time writing and publishing their writing on their Chromebooks, so let’s make it easy for them to achieve good spelling using this resource! Here is a link to help students set up Spell Check on their Chrome-books: https://mywindowshub.com/how-to-automatically-to-turn-on-spell-checker-in-google-chrome/

Research, References, and Citations

Students are gaining experience with research in their classes at NMS. One important part of research is finding good articles, and NMS offers great databases to find those sources.

Once the researching is accomplished, students can begin their project and appropriate ci-tations are necessary. Calvin College, in Grand Rapids, offers a terrific resource to help students with their citations, it is called KnightCite. It has a citation builder! Here is a link: https://www.calvin.edu/library/knightcite/

Another terrific resource for citing references is Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab. It is a quick and easy website that will show examples of correct citations and reference lists. Here is a link: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_in_text_citations_the_basics.html

KHAN Academy

This site is an amazing online tool that helps student’s access free education! KHAN Acad-emy is an organization that produces short lessons in the form of videos. It is a wonderful resource that provides extra study and practice for the subjects we teach at school! Here is a link to KHAN Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/
