    Dare you spend a night at the Museum?

    Its fright night at the Maritime Museum and spooky shenanigans

    are guaranteed at our Halloween slumber party. Spend a fun lled

    night making monster masks and bloodcurdling badges, design

    your own ghostly galleons to race on our boat pool, before enjoying

    a horrible Halloween picnic under a sky of ying boats.

    Then, as darkness falls, discover things that go bump in the night

    as you become a ghost hunter for the evening and we set off on

    a terrifying torch lit tour.The night ends with some creepy cartoons in our lecture

    theatre before setting up camp and bedding down for the night

    in our galleries.

    Tickets 25 per person, places are limited so early booking is

    Square Rig Sailing inthe Southern OceanJoin charter skipper and tall ship

    sailor Debbie Purser as she recounts

    her incredible experiences sailing

    the Southern Ocean on-board the

    Dutch Barque Europa. In 2007

    Debbie spent 52 days exploring the

    Antarctic Peninsula and re-traced

    Shackletons 800 mile voyage from Elephant Island to South

    Georgia. Through a selection of stunning ph otographs, Debbie

    shares her rst-hand experiences of visiting some of the most

    remarkable locations on the planet.

    Barnicoat as he traces the towns

    history from Tudor times to the present

    day. Through historic photographs

    compare then and now and see how

    Falmouth has developed into a major

    and strategically important port. Relive

    the Flying Enterprise incident, Robert

    Manrys crossing of the Atlantic and Sir

    Robin Knox-Johnsons and Dame Ellen

    MacArthurs solo circumnavigations of

    the globe.

    Speed to the WestDiscover how the Great Western

    Railway helped promote the Cornish

    Riviera. Tim Bryan, former curator at

    STEAM: Museum of the Great Western

    Railway in Swindon, tells the story

    of the development of the railways

    route to the Royal Duchy, its famous

    Cornish Riviera Express and how its

    imaginative and striking advertising

    and publicity helped develop Cornwall

    as a destination for thousands of

    holidaymakers every year.

    The Lost Photographs of Captain ScottPolar historian, Dr David Wilson, presents

    a story of the long-lost photographs taken

    personally by Captain Scott during his ill-fated

    Terra Nova expedition. They provide an insight

    into his last expedition and its work, as seen

    through his own eyes. This is the most signicant

    new material to emerge on Captain Scott in

    many years, giving a new perspective on one

    of the great epics of human exploration history.

    Ships of BrunelIn 1835, a Great Western Railway director

    commented that Isambard Kingdom Brunel

    should extend his Billiard Table Railway

    onwards from Bristol to cross the Atlantic.

    Over the next twenty y ears, Brunel designed

    and built three revolutionary ocean going ships

    which changed the design and construction of merchant ships

    forever. Join David Pollard for this non-technical talk on the

    construction and operation of Brunels famous ships and their legacy.

    Exhibitions2011 is the 350th anniversary of the signing of theRoyal Charter for Falmouth. On 5 October 1661 KingCharles II signed the act, thereby making Falmouthan ofcial town. As part of the town wide eventsmarking this momentous occasion the Museum isholding two new exhibitions which celebrate thetown and its maritime history.

    Falmouth in the Days of SailA pictorial tour of Falmouth and Penryn before the time of

    photography, which illustrates the incredible variety of visiting ships

    and boats and the evolution of the town. Stunning original artwork

    including lithographs, engravings, watercolours and oils depict

    the changing face of the harbour through the 19th Century.

    On the WaterfrontA unique collaboration with

    Textiles Plus, a group of Cornish

    artists working in a wide variety

    of textile techniques. On the

    Waterfront combines a large-

    scale installation based on

    colours representing the sea,

    sky and countryside, with

    individual works inspired by

    boats of every shape and s ize,

    people past and present and

    the history and architecture

    of Falmouth.
