WHAT’S NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP)?

• THE STUDY OF HUMAN EXCELLENCE –WHAT, WHY AND HOW

• THE ABILITY TO BE AT ONE’S BEST MORE OFTEN

• THE NEW TECHIQUE OF ACHIEVEMENT

Page 3: Nlp lotus

NEUROMATTERS PROCESSED IN MIND (WHICH IS A NEURO CENTRE) ARE COMMUNICATED THROUGH NERVES TO THE REQUIRED LIMB OF OUR BODY

Page 4: Nlp lotus

LINGUISTIC • WHILE NERVES MAKE

BODY MOVEMENTS, ORAL AND/OR WRITTEN COMMUNICATION TAKES PLACE THROUGH LINGUISTIC MODE –MEANS THROUGH KNOWN LANGUAGE

Page 5: Nlp lotus

PROGRAMMING• PEOPLE EXPRESS

THEIR FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS THROUGH A PATTERNIZED AND PROGRAMMED WAY.

• EACH ONE HAS GOT HIS/HER OWN WAY OF PROGRAMMED COMMUNICATION

BASIC PRINCIPLE OF NLP

• WE CAN CHANGE THE BEHAVIOUR OF A PERSON BY CHANGING THE THOUGHT PATTERN

• EVEN WHILE THE MIND IS PROCESSING, THE BODY TENDS TO EXPOSE IT AND ONE CAN FIND FROM THEM THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE PERSON.

• SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WORK IN A PATTERN WHICH CAN BE MODELLED TO EFFECT THE SAME RESULT

• WE CAN INCREASE OUR PERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS WHEN WE INTEGRATE CORRECTLY ALL THE RESOURCES WITHIN US

Page 8: Nlp lotus

BASIC PRE-SUPPOSITIONS

• COMMUNICATION IS REDUNDANT – as we are always communicating

• MEANING OF OUR COMMUNICATION IS THE RESPONSE THAT WE GET

• THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY – People respond to their map of reality and not to reality itself

Page 9: Nlp lotus

BASIC PRE-SUPPOSITIONS

• REQUISITE VARIETY – The element in a system with the most flexibility will be the controlling element

• PEOPLE WORK PERFECTLY – No one is wrong – It’s simply a matter of finding out how they function now, so that we can effectively change that to something more useful or desirable. People don’t need to be fixed

• PEOPLE ALWAYS MAKE THE BEST CHOICE AVAILABLE TO THEM AT THE TIME OF DECISION MAKING – even though there are lots of other better ones.

Page 10: Nlp lotus

BASIC PRE-SUPPOSITIONS

• EVERY BEHAVIOUR IS USEFUL IN SOME CONTEXT - as we would find a purpose/reason behind it

• CHOICE IS BETTER THAN NO CHOICE – as we get freedom of selection

• JUST ABOUT ANYONE CAN LEARN TO DO ANYTHING – If one person can do something, it is possible to model it and teach it to anyone else

Page 11: Nlp lotus

BASIC PRE-SUPPOSITIONS

• PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES THEY NEED –When they need is access to these resources at appropriate time and places

• THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FAILURE, ONLY FEED BACK –Every response is an experienced used for future guidance

• CHUNKING – Anything can be accomplished (by anyone) if we break the task down into small enough chunks.

Page 12: Nlp lotus

BASIC PRE-SUPPOSITIONS

• BEHIND EVERY BEHAVIOR IS A POSITIVE INTENTION – While every behavior may be harmful or seem “bad”, there is always a positive hidden intention.

• SYMPTOMS – pain, anxiety, depression, tumors, coldsetc., are communications about needed action.

• WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING OUR OWN EXPERIENCE -even when challenging events that we cannot control happen, we are responsible for our responses to these events. Typically, however, we have much more control than we think we have . Another way of stating this presupposition is that “We consistently create our own environmenent” through our beliefs, filters, capabilities and behaviors.

Page 13: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• Keep substance of these 15 points in Your Mind

• Apply the same in your life

• Experience them to increase your talents more and more until it becomes unconscious competence

Page 14: Nlp lotus

SENSORY ACUITY

• VISUAL

• AUDITORY

• KINESTHETIC

Page 15: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• Whenever you find time, practice this

• During social gatherings, observe people’s appearance

• Close your eyes and listen to the voice to identify the person

• While shaking hands with some one or touch any one, close your eyes and “feel” the touch

Page 16: Nlp lotus

DEVELOPING NLP SKILLS

1. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW THAT IS UNCONSCIOUS IMCOMPETENCE

2. YOU ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW - CONSCIOUS INCOMPETENCE

3. YOU ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF WHAT YOU DO KNOW NOW – CONSCIOUS COMPETENCE

4. YOU CAN USE YOUR KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT – UNCONSCIOUS COMPETENCE

Page 17: Nlp lotus

META MODELLING

• First, Know What do you want to Get?

• State it in positive terms

• Specific – Sensory Based – See – Hear – Feel

• Small Chunk size

• What will that do for you? (Specifically)

• How will you know when you have it?

Page 18: Nlp lotus

META MODELLING

• How will this affect other aspects (or people) in your life ?

• What stops you from having this already?

• What resources do you already have that will help you obtain your outcome?

• What additional resources do you need to obtain it?

• How are you going to get there?

• Is there more than one way to get there?

Page 19: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• DECIDE WHAT DO YOU WANT

• FIX A PERSON WHOM YOU WANT TO MODEL

• ADOPT THESE POINTS

• FIND OUT THE RESULTS

• MORE YOU PRACTICE MORE TALENTED YOU WOULD BECOME

Page 20: Nlp lotus

ALWAYS RESPOND TO SITUATIONS THAN TO REACT

• Whenever adverse situation arises, please respond to it than to react.

• Our emotional reactions as based on our perceptions of the events we encounter and person(s) involved in it.

• Take control of the situation and person(s) concerned

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

RAPPORT BUILDING

The success In person-to-person communication for any purpose depends on the amount of rapport that exists between the people involved.

In NLP terms, rapport is the process of creating and maintaining a harmonious relationship.

Page 22: Nlp lotus

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

RAPPORT BUILDING

Without rapport, whatever be the Management Style, it becomes inflexible and vague.

If we take initial little trouble to show people that we respect their beliefs and values, rapport is automatically established

Page 23: Nlp lotus

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

LEVEL OF RAPPORT BUILDING

In a family situation, it would be appropriate to develop a very deep or very warm level of rapport.

In a business context, however, it is quite sufficient to develop rapport to the level of mutual respect

Page 24: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• Wherever you go, simply watch how people around you relate to each other and see if you can spot any behavioral patterns which are common to;

• A) Situations with a medium to high level of rapport

• B) Situations where rapport is low or even non existent

Page 25: Nlp lotus

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

MATCHING & MIRRORING

The first and most crucial step towards creating rapport is to match and mirror the other person’s behavior.

Through this technique, we match/mirror the other person’s behavior directly or indirectly to a greater or lesser degree.

Page 26: Nlp lotus

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

WHAT CAN WE MATCH & MIRROR?

• Voice tone/tempo

• Language / Slang

• Breathing rate

• Body Movement

• Body Posture

Page 27: Nlp lotus

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSNLP WAY!!

THROUGH MATCHING & MIRRORING

• We can establish rapport afresh

or

• Strengthen the existing rapport further

Page 28: Nlp lotus

Please watch this Video

Page 29: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• Start to take conscious note of the speaking patterns of the people you talk to – tone, tempo, pitch etc. Spend several days on this first exercise.

• In situations where no one is likely to take offence, begin to match and mirror other people’s body movements on a very limited scale

• Try matching other people’s voice and breathing patterns, remembering that a little (done well) goes a long way

Page 32: Nlp lotus

AUDITOTRY ANCHORING

• Signature Music – At the beginning of a serial

• Airtel and Nokia – Separate Music

• Any Piece of Music

• People innovatively use few sounds to anchor

Page 33: Nlp lotus

KINESTHETIC ANCHORING

•This is done mainly in Self Anchoring and One-To-One Anchoring

Page 34: Nlp lotus

SELF KINESTHETIC ANCHORING

PROCESS• Close Your Eyes and Recollect a moment of your

selection in your life when you excelled• At the peak moment, set an anchoring – This can

be a gentle pinch or a touch at any convenient spot of your body

• Open your eyes – do this for 2/3 times• Then whenever you want to have the same

moment of excellence, you have to trigger the Anchor

Page 35: Nlp lotus

KINESTHETIC ANCHORING ON OTHERS

PROCESS• Find out What to Anchor & When

• It can be a Word / Sound / Gesture

• Here selecting the right anchor and triggering at the right moment is important

Page 36: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

ALTHOUGH IN COMMUNICATION WORDS PLAY ONLY 7% ROLE, LANGUAGE PATTERN CONTAINING RIGHT WORDS IMPRESS THE LISTENER AT THE SUBCONSCIOUS LEVEL!!

Page 37: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

Know the Preferred Thinking Style(PTS)

Visual : I don’t see what all the fuss is about –

it looks pretty good to me!

Auditory: It sounds not alright to me and I

hear nothing good until now.

Kinesthetic : I feel I should do this for me

otherwise I would become sad.

Page 38: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

When PTSs Collide with each other!A: Have you looked at those files I showed you? B: I am afraid I was tied up with other jobs and I

feel sorry you don’t understand thatA: You mean you did not even glance at them?B: You dint tell me they had to be dealt with in a

hurry.A: Well, they do! Now when am I going to see

some action.B: Your don’t listen to my words but talk and talk!!

Page 39: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

When PTSs shared with each other!A: Have you looked at those files I showed you?

B: Not yet…. You must have seen me visibly busy

A: So, you couldn’t glance at them right?

B: Right.. Because I want to see them in depth?

A: I see!!

Page 40: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

Please avoid using ‘BUT’ in a sentence as what you say after ‘BUT’ will become negative.

E.g.

You cook well but you need improvement

You cook well and you need to improvement

Page 41: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

Please avoid using ‘IF’ in a sentence as your statement will reveal uncertainty

E.g.

If I come to your factory next time, I will give you the book I mentioned.

When I come to your factory next time, I will give you the book I mentioned

Page 42: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

Always use words like “easily” “you can do” “comfortably” “lovely” “you are great”, “I appreciate you” “how nice of you” “wow.. Dear you only can do this” “great.. Your style is unique”

Page 43: Nlp lotus

NLP LANGUAGE PATTERN

Stressing the Word of Importance and needs attention!

While we converse, we have to stress the word or increase the voice to make it “noticed”.

Page 44: Nlp lotus

CHECK POINT ACTIONS

• Carefully notice the PTS in others and match them in your reply. After some time you will know a person’s PTS and talk his language.

• Start Using When & And.

• Keep including NLP Magic words

• Practice NLP way of Stressing Words to have quick results

Page 45: Nlp lotus

NLP HOT BUTTONS

• A Hot Button is nothing but a Belief, Faith, Value and Filter held by people which leads to perception, thoughts and emotions to react immediately.

• We must thus know the relationship between a person’s perception, thoughts and emotions so that we can create a right stimuli.

• Through TV Advertisements, which appear for just less than 30 seconds and effectively, Companies make us buy their products.

Page 46: Nlp lotus

CHECKPOINT ACTION

• Again and Again see the TV Commercials and Advertisements

• Find Out What is the Stimuli that is aimed at the NLP Hot Button in people.

• Observe People – Find out their hot buttons –create matching stimuli

• See how it works.

• As days go by, you will become an expert

REFRAMING

BITTER INCIDENTS IN OUR LIFE CAN BE REFRAMED SO AS TO HAVE THEM IN BETTER FORM

Page 49: Nlp lotus

MODALITIES IN REFRAMING

BEFORE REFRAMING, WE HAVE TO LOOK WHICH OF THE DOMINANT REPRESENTATIONAL SYSTEMS HAS AFFECTED US VERY MUCH – IS IT THE SCENE, IS IT THE VOICE / TONE / PITCH / WORDS OF A PERSON OR THE FEELINGS

Page 50: Nlp lotus

SUBMODALITIES

• VISUAL – Color, Brightness, Contrast, Size, Lighting, Frames to the Picture, Distance ad other visual based submodalities.

• AUDITORY – Texture of the voice, pitch, Level, Environmental noise, Tone & Tenor

• KINESTHETIC – Soft, Hard, Harsh, Soothing, Touch, Level of Pressure, Pain, Pleasure, Happiness, Pathos and other related ones.
