1 NLI Fellows Program Description
1.1 Audience: NSBE Collegiate Students & Graduate Members
1.2 Additional Exposure: Pre-Collegiate Students & NSBE Professionals
1.3 Program Overview:
Students will participate in a yearlong program strategically divided into two (2)
divisions corresponding to the natural flow of semesters through the academic school
year from October –December (Rotation 1) and January – April (Rotation 2). Students
will participate in NSBE leadership webinars and conference calls, attend program
specific events at Fall Regional Conference and the Annual Convention and will have
direct contact with a REB, NEB, or NSBE Professional Executive Board leader of their
choosing.
1.4 Origin of Shadowing Initiative:
The NSBE Fellows Program, formerly known as the Shadowing Initiative, originated
back in Region 1 in 2005 as a means to attract individuals thinking about leadership
opportunities on the chapter, zone or regional levels. Participants were informed about
leadership roles and responsibilities, the various taskforces and planning conferences.
1.5 Purpose of NLI Fellows Program:
- To Provide an avenue for NSBE general body members to gain exposure to the Regional
Executive Board (REB), National Executive Board (NEB) and NSBE Professional
Executive Board.
- To Teach all aspects, traits and characteristics associated with leadership and the
important role it plays within NSBE.
- To Increase confidence in each and every NLI Fellow to lead in the classroom, industry,
and NSBE executive board positions specific to their character.
- To Prepare prospective candidates for NSBE election process.
- To Create a nurturing and candid environment/community for NLI Fellows to discuss
leadership and NSBE.

1.6 NLI Fellow Benefits:
- Be a liaisons(s) to strongly provide your chapter with representation on the national level.
- Leadership Skillset Development & Training
- Enhanced networking skills
- Increased understanding of NSBE operations and leadership positions
- Exclusivity – behind the scenes look into the operations of NSBE
- Develop speech in your own voice
- Experience in the Functional Zones (2) of your choosing.
- Work directly with a NSBE leader
- Regional Leadership Meetups/Socials
- NSBE Leadership Application Assistance & Preparation
- NLI Fellows prizes and awards
1.7 Participant Requirements:
- Commitment from October – April
- Conduct at least 2 one-on-one calls with direct REB, NEB or NSBE Professional per
semester rotation.
- Attend NSBE NLI Fellows programming, webinars and events
- Plan to attend the Fall Regional Conference and Annual Convention to shadow an
REB/NEB member for a designated period of time
- Complete the mid-term and final evaluation for the shadowing initiative
- Associated Assignments throughout the duration or the program.
- Final Leadership Project during Rotation 2 (Optional) (i.e Host Leadership Meeting at
local NSBE Chapter, Implement Greet the Children at)

3 NLI Fellows Shadowing Initiative
3.1 Purpose of NSBE Leadership Shadowing Initiative:
This year, we would like to create a mutually benefiting relationship between the NLI
Fellows and REB, NEB, or NSBE Professional member by allowing our current NSBE
Executive Board members to cultivate and shape our NLI Fellows. We hope to create a
strong pool of applicants for next year’s REB, NEB, and NSBE Professionals Executive
Board all the while promoting longevity and sustainability within your Regional
leadership.
3.2 Structure for REB, NEB, and NSBE Professionals:
Activities between NLI Fellow and mentor can occur within any time frame during the
corresponding rotational segment.. (Rotation 1: October – December Rotation 2: January
– April)
- Set and schedule two (2) NLI Fellow One-on-One calls.
(Suggestion of 2 minimum per rotation)
- Invite NLI Fellow to attend two (2) REB, NEB, or NSBE Professional meetings.
(Suggestion of 2 minimum per rotation)
- Work with NLI Fellow on NSBE election material.
3.3 Recommendations/Tips for REB, NEB, and NSBE Professionals
- Schedule both one-on-one calls with NLI Fellow in advance. (Optional)
- Encouraged to allow NLI Fellow to have open lines of communication with you via cell
& email for advice and questions pertaining to NSBE. (Optional)
- Facilitate conversations regarding participants leadership experience and NSBE
leadership interest.
- Gain exposure to real life NSBE leaders’ experience by providing a realistic view of their
role towards the executive board.
3.4 One-on-One Guidance for NLI Fellow
