CLASSES This year we have had some changes in the classes. Every teacher got their first choice of class. The team teaching classroom has been divided and all looks good for a new year. Kinder (16) Mr Dunlop Year 1 (19) Mrs Harris Years 2,3 (29) Mrs K. Years 4,5,6 (22) Ms Lamb Mrs Harris is away this week as she undergoes medical treatment for a minor illness. She will be back next week. French: Mrs Fisher Library: Ms Karlsson Computers: Mrs Nicola SAM (School Admin Manager): Liz Nicholls SLSOs (School Learning Support Officers): Mrs Hays & Rachael Hodgson SAO (School Admin Officer): Colin Lee GA (General Assistant): Norm Betts School Cleaner: Andrew Nicholls What an awesome team we have!

INFORMATION NIGHT We will be holding an information night, for parents, on Thursday, 9th February. So come armed with all your questions. Kinder: 6 – 6.20pm, Year 1: 6.20 – 6.40pm, Years 2,3: 6.40 – 7pm, Years 4,5,6: 7 – 7.20pm. While one member of staff is talking, the other 3 will be out in the play-ground watching your children. Hope to see you there.

HOME READING Yesterday you should have received your child’s Home Reading record book. We believe reading to be the most important part of their homework. The record is for how many days your child has read, not how many books they have read. We ask that you send it in each time your child has reached 10 nights. We consider this so important that we have spent money buying prizes (listed on the back of the book). Any questions; just ask a teacher.

Social Soccer AGM AGM next Thursday 9th Feb at the Gundaroo Pub. Please attend for continuation of kids soccer for 2012. Any ques-tions please call Tony Le Mesurier on 0416584267.

CLASS PROGRAMS Attached to this week’s newsletter is the synopsis of what is planned to be taught, in each class, for the next 5 weeks. It may help with discussions as to what they have been doing at school. Textbooks have been bought. You will be invoiced for them in a week or two. They are already using them. We provide the exercise books.

SPORT

Sport is quite structured at Gundaroo Public School. Each day we do 20 minutes of some kind of fitness activity. We do a timed run, run the fitness circuit and do dance. Most terms we have specialists come in for sport. First half of Term 1 are skills and games, of a summer sport, done with the class teacher. Second half of Term 1 we do Cross Country training. First half of Term 2 we complete Cross Country and then do Athletics. First half of Term 3 is a winter sport, often with skills lessons from an outside sporting body. The second half of Term 3 is Dance lessons taken by an out-side dance academy. The first half of Term 4 is gym lessons taken by an outside gym and the second half of Term 4 are swimming lessons at the AIS.

HOLIDAY THANKS Thanks so much to Brodie who kept getting Nanny and Poppy or Mum and Dad, Lara, Sam and Jake to help him look after the school chooks. Thanks also to Andrew for moving all the furniture for our big carpet steam clean in the holidays. A huge thank you to Eric, Liz Harris and Andrew for turning up to school, in the holidays, to help me move all the Kinder furniture outside, and back in again, after Kinder got new carpet laid.

Library Thank you to all the parents who have found books over the holidays. It is always great to get books, back however late!

Children need a Library bag in order to borrow books. These are available from the office if needed. Kinders should have a new Library bag in their Orientation Pack. Kinders and new children will be able to borrow next week.

If books are returned by parents during the week please DO NOT return them to the shelves but place them in the yellow “returns” box on the bench in the Library. Thank you

KINDER HOMEWORK BOOKS

Kindergarten students have been issued with a homework book which they took home with them on Monday. There is no homework until Week 2, except for an optional cover/colouring in sheet on the first page. The purpose of sending the book home is so that you can cover it in the material of your own choice. Uncovered books are also fine, the point of the exercise being to allow students to personalise their homework books if they so wish.
