Fine ranging from $25-$500 or imprisonment notexceeding 15 days, or both. For informationregarding points or surcharges contact the MotorVehicle Commission. For information about carinsurance eligibility and points contact your carinsurance company or the New Jersey Department ofInsurance.

2. Each driver's license issued pursuant to R.S.39:3-10 shall have the legal name of the licensee endorsedthereon in his own handwriting. For purposes of thissection, legal name shall mean the name recorded ona birth certificate unless otherwise changed bymarriage, divorce or order of court. The director mayrequire that only the legal name be recorded on thedriver's license. A person who has been issued adriver's license pursuant to R.S.39:3-10 whose nameis changed due to marriage, divorce or by order ofcourt shall notify the director of the change in namewithin two weeks after the change is made.

A person who fails to notify the Director of theDivision of Motor Vehicles of a change in name asrequired in this section shall be subject to a fine. Aperson who is fined under this section for a violationof this section shall not be subject to a surchargeunder the New Jersey Merit Rating Plan as providedin section 6 of P.L.1983, c.65 (C.17:29A-35).

For the purposes of this section, a digitized signatureimage shall constitute a licensee's signature in hisown handwriting. A digitized signature image is anelectronic representation of a person's writtensignature.
