    NJ-Can Minutes 9/11/11

More unofficial minutes. Unless there is some objection or a volunteer, youre stuck with my fairly

immature and unprofessional account of our meeting. Corrections welcome.

Before the meeting was called to order, we discussed things we coulda/shoulda/woulda done but

    didnt.

We then discussed the lawsuit involving 20 unions and ramifications. Tim and Joanne brought us up

to speed on Recall Letter of Intent. It was unanimous that we need less than 2 million signatures for

petition. Joe will be a write-in for district as will Tim?

At 3:35, the meeting was called to order by Joanne. Announcements listed on a separate sheet

(tabling events) were discussed. Joe and I volunteered for October 1st

    at the Haddon Street Festival.

Also Pam Grey volunteered. We have coverage for Eco Fair in Toms River and Collingswood Book

    Festival.

Suggestions were made for participation at Glassboro (AKA Rowan), Burlington County Central and

    Southern New Jersey Labor organizations.

Eglisis said there is a rally at City Hall at 5th

& Market in Camden every Tuesday 3:00 PM to 4:30. Tim

will be joining him Tuesday. I will stop by one Tuesday to try to get signatures.

Thanks goes to Joanne for manning the tables at Maple Shade on Saturday and having to miss

    cocktail party with Howard Dean.

After a little fidgeting over tech challenges, Joanne decided it was time for a little Widgeting 101 .

Tim was very handy for audio visual presentation.

Joanne was superb in instructing the dummies among us (myself included) on the basics in a number

of other areas as well; referring us to websites, videos, reading material, instructional training, etc.

We also got a handout on Thom Hartmann with exact info on how to view his easy-to-understand

videos re: electoral mechanics. We discussed the creation of other materials for the politically

challenged including graphs, charts, emailing links and the always popular Connect-the-Dots graphic--

all aimed at spreading a simple, understandable message to an often confused or uninformed

    population.

Joe had his crystal clear Equality Trust graph, clearly showing the income gap being not only afinancial divide but one of just about everything we hold dear.

There were different ideas about the best way to achieve some goals and again it was left to Joanne

to explain to us the exact order of actions needed to best facilitate them based on her vast

    experience.

There was discussion of the Mother Jones/Koch Bros/Christie revelation and we were referred to

Brad Freeman (described to those of us who have never heard of him as a guy whose been around

for a long time). We were referred to other sites as well including but not limited to Move to

    Amend, AlterNet and High Tower

Joanne informed us that the 2008 Obama for Change contact info was still activewere talking 15K

names and emails. Good work. This will surely come in handy for the petition drive. No Tim, this

time I will not contact the bottom half of the list.

We discussed (and even called) possible write-in candidates with a few attendees committing tocontact other potential candidates. The petition delivery date was tentatively set for October 3

    rd

which can be extended if necessary. We discussed the dilemma of endorsing a candidate for

Governor; we have two excellent possibilities.

We reviewed and made some changes to the NJ-CAN Candidates Pledge. Items 7-10 were changed. I

do not list the changes here because I assume we are all aware of them and will receive revised

    pledge.

On the agenda was How do we get more involved? Joanne had numerous suggestions some will

be emailed, training is available and we were each asked to bring another person to the nextmeeting.

I do not include information that was on the handouts we received in these minutes because it is on

    the handouts.
