The Week That Was
Stock markets across the globe are suffering their worst week since the global
financial crisis of 2008 as fears over the impact of the coronavirus continue to grip
investors. Indian markets were not left unscathed either. BSE benchmark Sensex
logged its second-worst point-wise fall on Friday 28 February 2020 as investors
dumped stocks and flocked to safe haven assets.

rising in South Korea, Italy and the Middle East. The S&P BSE Sensex, lost 806.89
points or 1.96% at 40,363.23.

beating following reports that South Korea raised its coronavirus alert to the
"highest level" following a rapid spike in cases over the weekend. Italy's confirmed
cases surged.

concerns that the global economy could slow down as China struggles to contain the
coronavirus outbreak. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 143.30 points or 0.36% at
39,745.66. The Nifty 50 index lost 45.20 points or 0.39% at 11,633.30.

points or 3.64% at 38,297.29. The Nifty 50 index lost 414.10 points or 3.56% at
11,219.20.

On the economic front, National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER)
pegged the economic growth for the current fiscal at 4.9%, a tad down from 5%
estimated by the National Statistical Office (NSO). However, for 2020-21, the NCAER
