The 100% electric Nissan LEAF
Myth 1 - Electric Vehicles are slow
From a standing start, the Nis san LEAF instantly delivers 280Nm of torque to respond faster than a conventional 2.5-litre V6 engine, delivering 0-62mph in 11.9 seconds and a top speed of over 90mph.
Myth 2 - Electric Vehicles have limited range
The Nissan LEAF with a full charge can take you up to 109 miles1. LEAF also tells you how far you can travel before your nextcharge and where the nearest charging stations are. As the average journey in Britain is only 8.4 miles, and 95% of journeys areless than 25 miles2, youre unlikely to need a top up. LEAF also comes with ECO mode; this decreases the power output and the autoA/C setting and increases the usage range of the regenerative brakes which all increase the range.
Myth 3 - Electric Vehicles require long recharge times
It actually only takes about ten seconds to charge your car, five seconds to plug it into your wall box at home in the evening, and fiveseconds to unplug it in the morning3. We expect most drivers will return home with about 20% of charge still left, which means theywill actually only need five to s ix hours for a full recharge. Most customers will either charge at home overnight or in the office duringworking hours. Customers on the move can take advantage of rapid chargers which charge from empty to 80% capacity in around30 minutes.
Myth 4 - There is very little public charging
In the UK, there are currently 2,500 charging points that are live, with a further 500 installed and in the process of being turned onshortly. This figure grows every day, with 10,000 charging points expected to be i nstalled by end of 2013 and growing to 25,000 by20164. In comparison, there are currently just under 8,5005 petrol stations in the UK, meaning that, wherever you are, there willalways be a charging station you can get to. To see where your nearest charging points are, visit https://www.zap-map.com/indexnissan.php.
Myth 5 - Electric Vehicles are expensive
The Nissan LEAF is priced i n-line with internal combustion engine vehicles of similar size and spec, and with attractive finance offers,it is easy to afford. The low running costs of LEAF mean that customers can enjoy substantial savings compared to other vehicles. Tosee how much, and what kind of savings these are, please visit our cost of ownership page on www.nissan.co.uk/leaf
LEAF EV Myths
Myth 6 - Electric Vehicles are small
Rather than converting a petrol or diesel engined car to run on electricity, the LEAF was designed as an electric car from the ground-up. This has allowed us to cleverly position the battery to allow for more space inside the cabin giving you five seats and five doors, awell as a boot size of 330 litres.
Myth 7 - Electric Vehicles are unsafe
LEAF has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, the first electric vehicle to be awarded such, making it one of the safest vehicles inEurope. Nissans battery uses a spinel-structured manganese for stability and safety, and the laminated structure of the lithium-ionbattery controls heat emissions. Each battery cell is monitored by electronic sensors to ensure safe use, and the robust packaging ofthe battery modules have been engineered to optimise passive safety in the event of impact.
Myth 8 - Electric Vehicles still pollute as much as conventional cars because electricity is generated by burning coal
The electricity grid is more than 52% cleaner than petrol or diesel in its dirtiest form. Unlike gasoline which will retain the sameproperties over time, the electrical grid is also working to become cleaner, tapping into alternative forms of power such as wind orsolar to create the electricity needed for electric vehicles. Also, the efficiency of an electric engine is much higher than an internalcombustion engine (an electric car can drive around 60km with the energy equivalent to one litre of gasoline), having a huge impacton the energy consumption.
Myth 9 - The electricity grid cannot cope with Electric Vehicles
If there were ten million electric vehicles on the road, the annual needs to charge all of these cars would represent approximately oneper cent of annual electricity output in Europe.

*c. Electricity price based on British Gas Clear & Simple Economy 7 unit rates for a customer paying by direct debit asat 16th November 2012, assuming 7 hours of charging at the night rate and one hour on daytime rate and 95%charging efficiency. A daily standing charge of 17.579p also applies. Equivalent fuel rate calculated on the basis ofaverage UK petrol and diesel prices as quoted in the AA fuel price report as at October 2012. Actual consumption/range may vary due to driving style, road condition, air conditioning and other factors outside our control. Equivalent339mpg rate is based on 1.86p per mile running cost for LEAF. 1.86p per mile x 339.6 miles equals a cost of 6.31which is the average price of a gallon of petrol as quoted in the AA fuel price report as at October 2012. Therefore, forthe average price of a gallon of petrol, the LEAF can travel 339 miles. Actual consumption/range may vary due todriving style, road condition, air conditioning and other factors outside our control. Equivalent 351mpg rate is based on1.86p per mile running cost for LEAF. 1.86p per mile x 351.3 miles equals a cost of 6.53 which is the average priceof a gallon of diesel as quoted in the AA fuel price report as at October 2012. Therefore, for the average price of agallon of diesel, the LEAF can t ravel 351 miles. Actual consumption/range may vary due to driving style, roadcondition, air conditioning and other factors outside our control.
