• ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਪਿਣੁ ਿਹੈ ਸਦਿਾਉ ॥

• In the Fear of God, the wind and breezes ever blow.

• ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਿਲਵਹ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥

• In the Fear of God, thousands of rivers flow.

• ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਅਗਵਿ ਕਢੈ ਿੇਗਾਵਰ ॥

• In the Fear of God, fire is forced to labor.

• ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਬੀ ਭਾਵਰ ॥

• In the Fear of God, the earth is crushed under its burden.

• ਕੋਹ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਿਲਤ ਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥ • They travel millions of miles, endlessly. • ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਵਸਧ ਬੁਧ ਸੁਰ ਿਾਥ ॥ • In the Fear of God, the Siddhas exist, as do the

Buddhas, the demi-gods and Yogis. • ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਆਡਾਣੇ ਆਕਾਸ ॥ • In the Fear of God, the Akaashic ethers are

stretched across the sky. • ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰ ॥ • In the Fear of God, the warriors and the most

powerful heroes exist. • ਭੈ ਵਿਵਿ ਆਿਵਹ ਜਾਿਵਹ ਪੂਰ ॥ • In the Fear of God, multitudes come and go. • ਸਗਵਲਆ ਭਉ ਵਲਵਖਆ ਵਸਵਰ ਲੇਖੁ ॥ • God has inscribed the Inscription of His Fear

upon the heads of all. • ਿਾਿਕ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ • O Nanak, the Fearless Lord, the Formless Lord,

the True Lord, is One. ||1||

“Dar…” Bavan Akhri – Ang 341

ਡਡਾ ਡਰ ਉਪਜੇ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਈ ॥ DADDA: When the Fear of God wells up, other fears depart. ਤਾ ਡਰ ਮਵਹ ਡਰੁ ਰਵਹਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ Other fears are absorbed into that Fear. ਜਉ ਡਰ ਡਰੈ ਤ ਨਿਨਰ ਡਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ When one rejects the Fear of God, then other fears cling to

him. ਨਿਡਰ ਹੂਆ ਡਰੁ ਉਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧੯॥ But if he becomes fearless, the fears of his heart run away.

Nirmal Bhau… Har doojari lav .. Ang 774

ਹਵਰ ਦੂਜੜੀ ਲਾਿ ਸਵਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਵਮਲਾਇਆ ਬਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥ In the second round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord leads you to meet the True Guru, the

Primal Being. ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭੈ ਮਿੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਿਾਇਆ ਬਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥ With the Fear of God, the Fearless Lord in the mind, the filth of egotism is eradicated. ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਭਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਵਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਹਵਰ ਿੇਖੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥ In the Fear of God, the Immaculate Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and behold the

Lord's Presence before you. ਹਵਰ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਸਾਵਰਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਬ ਰਵਹਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥ The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is the Lord and Master of the Universe; He is pervading and

permeating everywhere, fully filling all spaces. ਅੰਤਵਰ ਬਾਹਵਰ ਹਵਰ ਪਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਵਮਵਲ ਹਵਰ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ॥ Deep within, and outside as well, there is only the One Lord God. Meeting together, the humble

servants of the Lord sing the songs of joy. ਜਿ ਿਾਿਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਲਾਿ ਿਲਾਈ ਅਿਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਿਜਾਏ ॥੨॥ Servant Nanak proclaims that, in this, the second round of the marriage ceremony, the unstruck

sound current of the Shabad resounds. ||2||

Who is Nirbhau… Gyani … Mehla 9.. Ang 1427

ਭ ੈਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਦੇਤ ਿਵਹ ਿਵਹ ਭੈ ਮਾਿਤ ਆਿ ॥ One who does not frighten anyone*, and who is not

afraid of anyone else – ਕਹੁ ਿਾਿਕ ਸੁਵਿ ਰੇ ਮਿਾ ਨਗਆਿੀ ਤਾਵਹ ਬਖਾਵਿ ॥੧੬॥ says Nanak, listen, mind: call him spiritually wise.

ਿਾਿਕ ਵਜਿ੍ਹ ਮਵਿ ਭਉ ਵਤਿ੍ਹਾ ਮਵਿ ਭਾਉ ॥੨॥ O Nanak, those whose minds are filled with the

Fear of God, have the love of God in their minds as well. ||2||

ਿਾਿਕ ਬਧਾ ਘਰੁ ਤਹਾਂ ਵਜਥੈ ਨਮਰਤ ੁਿ

ਜਿਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੭੬॥ Nanak builds his house upon that

site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. ||4||6||76||

ਜੈਸੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਉਦਰ ਮਨਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਬਾਹਵਰ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ As is the fire within the womb, so is Maya outside.

ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਭ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਿੀ ਕਰਤੈ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਿਾਇਆ ॥ The fire of Maya is one and the same; the Creator has staged this play.

ਜਾ ਵਤਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਜੰਵਮਆ ਪਰਿਾਵਰ ਭਲਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ According to His Will, the child is born, and the family is very pleased.

ਵਲਿ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਲਗੀ ਵਤਰਸਿਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਮਰੁ ਿਰਤਾਇਆ ॥ Love for the Lord wears off, and the child becomes attached to desires;

the script of Maya runs its course.

ਏਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਜਤੁ ਹਵਰ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ This is Maya, by which the Lord is forgotten; emotional attachment

and love of duality well up.

ਕਹੈ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਜਿਾ ਵਲਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਵਤਿੀ ਵਿਿੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨੯॥ Says Nanak, by Guru's Grace, those who enshrine love for the Lord find

Him, in the midst of Maya. ||29||

What is Benefit .. Kabir …858 Ang

ਤਿ ਗੁਿ ਕਿਾ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰਾ ਜਉ ਕਰਮੁ ਿ ਿਾਸੈ ॥ What is Your value, O Guru of the world, if You

will not erase the karma of my past actions?

ਵਸੰਘ ਸਰਿ ਕਤ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਜੰਬੁਕੁ ਗਰਾਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Why seek safety from a lion, if one is to be eaten

by a jackal? ||1||Pause||

ਸਵਤਗੁਰ ਮੈ ਬਵਲਹਾਰੀ ਤੋਰ ॥ I am a sacrifice to You, O my True Guru. ਵਜਵਿ ਸਕਲ ਵਬਕਲ ਭਰਮ ਕਾਟੇ ਮੋਰ ॥ You have cut through all my confusion and doubt. ਰਾਮਾਿੰਦ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਤ ਬਰਹਮ ॥ Raamaanand's Lord and Master is the All-pervading Lord God. ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਕੋਨਟ ਕਰਮ ॥੩॥੧॥ The Word of the Guru's Shabad eradicates the karma of millions of past actions. ||3||1||

• ਬਹੁਵਰ ਹਮ ਕਾਹੇ ਆਿਵਹਗੇ ॥ • Why should I come into the world again? • ਆਿਿ ਜਾਿਾ ਿੁਕਮੁ ਵਤਸੈ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੁਵਿ ਸਮਾਿਵਹਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • Coming and going is by the Hukam of His Command; realizing His Hukam, I shall

merge in Him. ||1||Pause|| • ਜਬ ਿੂਕੈ ਪੰਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਕੀ ਰਿਿਾ ਐਸੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਿੁਕਾਿਵਹਗੇ ॥ • When the body, formed of the five elements, perishes, then any such doubts shall

end. • ਦਰਸਿੁ ਛੋਵਡ ਭਏ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਏਕੋ ਿਾਮੁ ਨਿਆਵਨਿਗੇ ॥੨॥ • Giving up the different schools of philosophy, I look upon all equally; I meditate

only on the One Name. ||2|| • ਵਜਤ ਹਮ ਲਾਏ ਵਤਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਤੈਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਨਿਗੇ ॥ • Whatever I am attached to, to that I am attached; such are the deeds I do. • ਹਵਰ ਜੀ ਨਕਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਉ ਅਪਿੀ ਤੌ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਬਨਦ ਸਮਾਵਨਿਗੇ ॥੩॥ • When the Dear Lord grants His Grace, then I am merged in the Word of the Guru's

Shabad. ||3||

• ਹਵਰ ਨਿਆਵਨਿ ਹਵਰ ਨਿਆਵਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਸੇ ਜਿ ਜੁਗ ਮਵਹ ਸੁਖਿਾਸੀ ॥ • Those who meditate on You, Lord, those who meditate on You-those humble

beings dwell in peace in this world. • ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਵਜਿ ਹਵਰ ਨਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਵਤਿ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਿਾਸੀ ॥ • They are liberated, they are liberated-those who meditate on the Lord. For them,

the noose of death is cut away. • ਨਜਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਜਿ ਿਨਰ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਨਤਿ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਸਭੁ ਗਵਾਸੀ ॥ • Those who meditate on the Fearless One, on the Fearless Lord-all their fears are

dispelled. • ਵਜਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਵਜਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਵਰ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਹਵਰ ਹਵਰ ਰੂਵਪ ਸਮਾਸੀ ॥ • Those who serve, those who serve my Dear Lord, are absorbed into the Being of

the Lord, Har, Har. • ਸੇ ਧੰਿੁ ਸੇ ਧੰਿੁ ਵਜਿ ਹਵਰ ਨਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਜਿੁ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਵਤਿ ਬਵਲ ਜਾਸੀ ॥੩॥ • Blessed are they, blessed are they, who meditate on their Dear Lord. Servant

Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||3||

Ultimate Goal is .. Naam Japo…Sukhmani Sahib (22) … Ang 293

• ਵਤਸ ਤੇ ਦੂਵਰ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ • Where can anyone go, to get

away from Him? • ਉਬਰੈ ਰਾਖਿਹਾਰੁ ਵਧਆਇ ॥ • Meditating on the Protector

Lord, you shall be saved. • ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜਪੈ ਸਗਲ ਭਉ ਨਮਟੈ ॥ • Meditating on the Fearless

Lord, all fear departs. • ਪਰਭ ਵਕਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਛੁਟੈ ॥ • By God's Grace, mortals are

released. • ਵਜਸੁ ਪਰਭੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਵਤਸੁ ਿਾਹੀ ਦੂਖ ॥ • One who is protected by God

never suffers in pain.

• ਿਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਵਿ ਹੋਿਤ ਸੂਖ ॥ • Chanting the Naam, the mind

becomes peaceful. • ਵਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਇ ਵਮਟੈ ਅਿੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ • Anxiety departs, and ego is

eliminated. • ਵਤਸੁ ਜਿ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਿ ਪਹੁਿਿਹਾਰੁ

॥ • No one can equal that humble

servant. • ਵਸਰ ਊਪਵਰ ਠਾਢਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ॥ • The Brave and Powerful Guru

stands over his head. • ਿਾਿਕ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੭॥ • O Nanak, his efforts are

fulfilled. ||7||

Benefits of Naam Jap

• Mehla 4 .. Ang 539… • ਜੋ ਹਵਰ ਿਾਮੁ ਵਧਆਇਦੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਵਜੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਵਤਿਾ ਪੰਚੇ ਿਸਗਵਤ ਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ • Those who meditate on the Lord's Name, O my soul, overpower the

five passions.

• ਜੋ ਹਵਰ ਿਾਮੁ ਵਧਆਿਵਹ ਵਤਿ ਡਰੁ ਸਵਟ ਘਵਤਆ ॥ • Those who meditate on the Lord's Name, cast out their fears.

• Mehla 4 .. Ang 985…

• ਵਜਿ੍ਹ ਹਵਰ ਿਾਮੁ ਵਧਆਇਆ ਵਤਿ੍ਹ ਿੂਕੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥ • Those who meditate on the Name of the Lord - all their entanglements are

ended.

What does Nirbhau feel like? … Kabir .. Ang 1162

• ਗੰਗ ਗੁਸਾਇਵਿ ਗਵਹਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ॥ • The mother Ganges is deep and

profound. • ਜੰਜੀਰ ਬਾਂਵਧ ਕਵਰ ਖਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧॥ • Tied up in chains, they took

Kabeer there. ||1|| • ਮਿੁ ਿ ਵਡਗੈ ਤਿੁ ਕਾਿੇ ਕਉ ਡਰਾਇ

॥ • My mind was not shaken; why

should my body be afraid? • ਿਰਿ ਕਮਲ ਵਿਤੁ ਰਵਹਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • My consciousness remained

immersed in the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

• ਗੰਗਾ ਕੀ ਲਹਵਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਟੁਟੀ ਜੰਜੀਰ ॥ • The waves of the Ganges broke

the chains, • ਵਮਰਗਛਾਲਾ ਪਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੨॥ • and Kabeer was seated on a

deer skin. ||2|| • ਕਵਹ ਕੰਬੀਰ ਕੋਊ ਸੰਗ ਿ ਸਾਥ ॥ • Says Kabeer, I have no friend or

companion. • ਜਲ ਥਲ ਰਾਖਿ ਹੈ ਰਘੁਿਾਥ

॥੩॥੧੦॥੧੮॥ • ||3||10||18|| • On the water, and on the land,

the Lord is my Protector. ||3||10||18||

What does Nirbhau feel like? … Mehla 5

• Ang 394

• ਆਸਾ ਘਰੁ ੭ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ • Aasaa, Seventh House, Fifth Mehl: • ਹਵਰ ਕਾ ਿਾਮੁ ਵਰਦੈ ਵਿਤ ਵਧਆਈ ॥ • Meditate continually on the Name of the Lord

within your heart. • ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਤਰਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ • Thus you shall save all your companions and

associates. ||1|| • ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਨਗ ਸਦਾ ਿੈ ਿਾਲੇ ॥ • My Guru is always with me, near at hand. • ਵਸਮਵਰ ਵਸਮਵਰ ਵਤਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • Meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him,

I cherish Him forever. ||1||Pause|| • ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ • Your actions seem so sweet to me. • ਹਵਰ ਿਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ॥੨॥੪੨॥੯੩॥ • Nanak begs for the treasure of the Naam, the

Name of the Lord. ||2||42||93||

• ਿਾ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਸਮਿੁ ਰਵਹਆ ਿਾ ਹਮ ਵਕਸ ਕੇ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥ • No one is my enemy, and I am no one's enemy. • ਬਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ਪਸਾਵਰਓ ਭੀਤਵਰ ਸਵਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਿੀ ਪਾਈ

॥੨॥ • God, who expanded His expanse, is within all; I

learned this from the True Guru. ||2|| • ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਮੀਤੁ ਿਮ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਿਾ ਹਮ ਸਭਿਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਜਿ ॥ • I am a friend to all; I am everyone's friend. • ਦੂਵਰ ਪਰਾਇਓ ਮਿ ਕਾ ਵਬਰਹਾ ਤਾ ਮੇਲੁ ਕੀਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਾਜਿ

॥੩॥ • When the sense of separation was removed from

my mind, then I was united with the Lord, my King. ||3||

Nanak in Sialkot … Gun gaavo.. 723 ang

• ਖੂਿ ਕੇ ਸੋਵਹਲੇ ਗਾਿੀਅਵਹ ਿਾਿਕ ਰਤੁ ਕਾ ਕੁੰ ਗੂ ਪਾਇ ਿੇ

ਲਾਲੋ ॥੧॥ • The wedding songs of murder are sung, O Nanak,

and blood is sprinkled instead of saffron, O Lalo. ||1||

• ਸਾਨਿਬ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਗਾਿੈ ਮਾਸ ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਵਿ ਆਖੁ ਮਸੋਲਾ ॥

• Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord and Master in the city of corpses, and voices this account.

So What do I do?... Mehla 5…206 • ਓਹੁ ਅਵਬਿਾਸੀ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ • He is the Eternal King. • ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੰਨਗ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ਬਸਤੇ ਇਿੁ ਡਰਿੁ ਕਿਾ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • The Fearless Lord abides with you. So where does this fear come from? ||1||Pause|| • ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਵਹ ਅਿਾਰੋ ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਨਿਮਾਿੋ ॥ • In one person, You are arrogant and proud, and in another, You are meek and humble. • ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਗਰੀਬਾਿੋ ॥੧॥ • In one person, You are all by Yourself, and in another, You are poor. ||1|| • ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਪੰਵਡਤੁ ਬਕਤਾ ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਖਲੁ ਹੋਤਾ ॥ • In one person, you are a Pandit, a religious scholar and a preacher, and in another, You are just a fool. • ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਸਭੁ ਵਕਛੁ ਗਰਾਹਜੁ ਏਕ ਮਹਵਲ ਕਛੂ ਿ ਲੇਤਾ ॥੨॥ • In one person, You grab hold of everything, and in another, You accept nothing. ||2|| • ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਪੁਤਰੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਵਖਲਾਿਿਹਾਰੋ ਜਾਿੈ ॥ • What can the poor wooden puppet do? The Master Puppeteer knows everything. • ਜੈਸਾ ਭੇਖੁ ਕਰਾਿੈ ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ੁਓਹੁ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਸਾਜੁ ਆਿੈ ॥੩॥ • As the Puppeteer dresses the puppet, so is the role the puppet plays. ||3|| • ਅਵਿਕ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਭਾਵਤ ਕਰੀਆ ਆਵਪ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਿਾਰਾ ॥ • The Lord has created the various chambers of assorted descriptions, and He Himself protects them. • ਜੈਸੇ ਮਹਵਲ ਰਾਖੈ ਤੈਸੈ ਰਹਿਾ ਵਕਆ ਇਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਵਬਿਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ • As is that vessel in which the Lord places the soul, so does it dwell. What can this poor being do? ||4|| • ਵਜਵਿ ਵਕਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਿੈ ਵਜਵਿ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਵਬਵਧ ਸਾਜੀ ॥ • The One who created the thing, understands it; He has fashioned all of this. • ਕਹੁ ਿਾਿਕ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੀਮਵਤ ਅਪੁਿੇ ਕਾਜੀ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੨੬॥ • Says Nanak, the Lord and Master is Infinite; He alone understands the value of His Creation. ||5||5||126||

• ਕਬੀਰ ਮਿੁ ਜਾਿੈ ਸਭ ਬਾਤ ਜਾਿਤ ਹੀ ਅਉਗਿੁ ਕਰੈ ॥ • Kabeer, the mortal knows everything, and

knowing, he still makes mistakes. • ਕਾਹੇ ਕੀ ਕੁਸਲਾਤ ਹਾਵਥ ਦੀਪੁ ਕੂਏ ਪਰੈ ॥੨੧੬॥ • What good is a lamp in one's hand, if he falls

into the well? ||216||

• ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਡਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਨਤ ਥੋਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ • You are great and all-powerful; my understanding is so inadequate, O Lord. • ਪਾਲਵਹ ਅਵਕਰਤਘਿਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਵਦਰਸਵਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ • You cherish even the ungrateful ones; Your Glance of Grace is perfect, Lord. • ਅਗਾਵਧ ਬੋਵਧ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੋਵਹ ਿੀਿੁ ਕਛੂ ਿ ਜਾਿਾ ॥ • Your wisdom is unfathomable, O Infinite Creator. I am lowly, and I know nothing. • ਰਤਿੁ ਵਤਆਵਗ ਸੰਗਰਹਿ ਕਉਡੀ ਪਸੂ ਿੀਚ ੁਇਆਿਾ ॥ • Forsaking the jewel, I have saved the shell; I am a lowly, ignorant beast. • ਵਤਆਵਗ ਿਲਤੀ ਮਹਾ ਿੰਿਵਲ ਦੋਖ ਕਵਰ ਕਵਰ ਜੋਰੀ ॥ • I have kept that which forsakes me, and is very fickle, continually committing sins,

again and again. • ਿਾਿਕ ਸਰਵਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥ • Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, Almighty Lord and Master; please, preserve my

honor. ||3||

• ਹਵਰ ਨਬਅੰਤ ੁਹਉ ਵਮਵਤ ਕਵਰ ਿਰਿਉ ਵਕਆ ਜਾਿਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈਸੋ ਰੇ ॥ • The Lord is limitless, but I can only describe Him within my

limitations; what do I know, about what He is like? • ਕਰਉ ਬੇਿਤੀ ਸਵਤਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਿੇ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੋ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ • I offer my prayer to my True Guru; I am so foolish - please, teach

me! ||3|| • ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਾਤ ਹੈ ਕੋਵਟ ਪਰਾਧੀ ਤਵਰਆ ਰੇ ॥ • I am just a fool, but millions of sinners just like me have been saved. • ਗੁਰੁ ਿਾਿਕੁ ਵਜਿ ਸੁਵਣਆ ਪੇਵਖਆ ਸੇ ਵਿਵਰ ਗਰਭਾਵਸ ਿ ਪਵਰਆ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥ • Those who have heard, and seen Guru Nanak, do not descend into

the womb of reincarnation again. ||4||2||13||

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥ Ashtapadee: ਰਮਈਆ ਕੇ ਗੁਿ ਚੇਨਤ ਪਰਾਿੀ ॥ Think of the Glory of the All-pervading

Lord, O mortal; ਕਿਿ ਮੂਲ ਤੇ ਕਿਿ ਵਦਰਸਟਾਿੀ ॥ what is your origin, and what is your

appearance? ਵਜਵਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਵਜ ਸਿਾਵਰ ਸੀਗਾਵਰਆ ॥ He who fashioned, adorned and

decorated you, - ਗਰਭ ਅਗਵਿ ਮਵਹ ਵਜਿਵਹ ਉਬਾਵਰਆ ॥ in the fire of the womb, He preserved

you. ਬਾਰ ਨਬਵਸਥਾ ਤੁਝਨਿ ਨਪਆਰੈ ਦੂਿ ॥ In your infancy, He gave you milk to drink.

ਭਨਰ ਜੋਬਿ ਭੋਜਿ ਸੁਖ ਸੂਿ ॥ In the flower of your youth, He gave you

food, pleasure and understanding. ਨਬਰਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਊਪਨਰ ਸਾਕ ਸੈਿ ॥ As you grow old, family and friends are

there, ਮੁਵਖ ਅਵਪਆਉ ਬੈਠ ਕਉ ਦੈਿ ॥ to feed you as you rest. ਇਹੁ ਵਿਰਗੁਿੁ ਗੁਿੁ ਕਛੂ ਿ ਬੂਿੈ ॥ This worthless person has not

appreciated in the least, all the good deeds done for him.

ਬਖਵਸ ਲੇਹੁ ਤਉ ਿਾਿਕ ਸੀਿੈ ॥੧॥ If you bless him with forgiveness, O

Nanak, only then will he be saved. ||1||

TO DO – develop discerning intellect – ang 641

• ਵਪਆਰੇ ਇਿ ਵਬਵਧ ਵਮਲਣੁ ਿ ਜਾਈ ਮੈ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਮ ਅਿੇਕਾ ॥ • O Beloved, this is not the way to meet the Lord; I have performed

these rituals so many times. • ਿਾਨਰ ਪਨਰਓ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੁਨਿ ਨਬਬੇਕਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • I have collapsed, exhausted, at the Door of my Lord Master; I pray

that He may grant me a discerning intellect. ||Pause|| • ਮੋਵਿ ਭਇਓ ਕਰਪਾਤੀ ਰਵਹਓ ਿਗਿ ਵਿਵਰਓ ਬਿ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ • One may remain silent and use his hands as begging bowls, and

wander naked in the forest. • ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਭਰਵਮਓ ਦੁਵਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਿਾਹੀ ॥੨॥ • He may make pilgrimages to river banks and sacred shrines all over

the world, but his sense of duality will not leave him. ||2||

• ਤੀਰਵਥ ਿਾਿਾ ਜੇ ਵਤਸੁ ਭਾਿਾ ਨਵਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਨਕ ਿਾਇ ਕਰੀ ॥ • If I am pleasing to Him, then that is my pilgrimage and cleansing bath.

Without pleasing Him, what good are ritual cleansings? • ਜੇਤੀ ਵਸਰਵਠ ਉਪਾਈ ਿੇਖਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਵਕ ਵਮਲੈ ਲਈ ॥ • I gaze upon all the created beings: without the karma of good actions,

what are they given to receive? • ਮਵਤ ਵਿਵਿ ਰਤਿ ਜਿਾਹਰ ਮਾਵਣਕ ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਸਖ ਸੁਣੀ ॥ • Within the mind are gems, jewels and rubies, if you listen to the Guru's

Teachings, even once. • ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਵਹ ਬੁਿਾਈ ॥ • The Guru has given me this one understanding: • ਸਭਿਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਵਰ ਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥ • there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||6||

• ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ • Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: • ਉਦਮ ੁਕਰਉ ਕਰਾਿਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਵਗ ॥ • I make the effort, as You cause me to do, my Lord and Master, to

behold You in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. • ਹਵਰ ਹਵਰ ਿਾਮੁ ਿਰਾਿਹੁ ਰੰਗਵਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਭ ਰੰਵਗ ॥੧॥ • I am imbued with the color of the Love of the Lord, Har, Har; God

Himself has colored me in His Love. ||1|| • ਮਿ ਮਵਹ ਰਾਮ ਿਾਮਾ ਜਾਵਪ ॥ • I chant the Lord's Name within my mind. • ਕਵਰ ਵਕਰਪਾ ਿਸਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਵਹਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਵਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • Bestow Your Mercy, and dwell within my heart; please, become my

you shall enjoy peace. • ਨਿਆਇਨਦਆ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਭੂ ਵਮਲੁ ਿਾਿਕ ਉਤਰੀ ਵਿੰਤ ॥੧॥ • Meditating, you shall meet God, O Nanak, and

your anxiety shall vanish. ||1||

Your one chance.. dharam kamao … Ang 1159

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਿਾ ਤੇ ਭਗਵਤ ਕਮਾਈ ॥ Serving the Guru, devotional worship is practiced. ਤਬ ਇਹ ਮਾਿਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ Then, this human body is obtained. ਇਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਕਉ ਵਸਮਰਵਹ ਦੇਿ ॥ Even the gods long for this human body. ਸੋ ਦੇਹੀ ਭਜੁ ਹਵਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਿ ॥੧॥ So vibrate that human body, and think of serving the Lord. ||1|| ਭਜਿੁ ਗ ਨਬੰਦ ਭੂਨਲ ਮਤ ਜਾਿੁ ॥ Vibrate, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and never forget Him. ਮਾਿਸ ਜਿਮ ਕਾ ਏਿੀ ਲਾਿੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ This is the blessed opportunity of this human incarnation. ||1||Pause|| ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜਰਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਿਹੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ As long as the disease of old age has not come to the body, ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਕਾਵਲ ਗਰਸੀ ਿਹੀ ਕਾਇਆ ॥ and as long as death has not come and seized the body, ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਵਬਕਲ ਭਈ ਿਹੀ ਬਾਿੀ ॥ and as long as your voice has not lost its power, ਭਵਜ ਲੇਵਹ ਰੇ ਮਿ ਸਾਵਰਗਪਾਿੀ ॥੨॥ O mortal being, vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World. ||2||

He has given you everything…7 ang (jap)

• ਰਾਤੀ ਰੁਤੀ ਵਥਤੀ ਿਾਰ ॥ • Nights, days, weeks and seasons; • ਪਿਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਿੀ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥ • wind, water, fire and the nether regions

- • ਵਤਸੁ ਵਿਵਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਥਾਵਪ ਰਖੀ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲ ॥ • in the midst of these, He established

the earth as a home for Dharma. • ਵਤਸੁ ਵਿਵਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੁਗਵਤ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥ • Upon it, He placed the various species

of beings. • ਵਤਿ ਕੇ ਿਾਮ ਅਿੇਕ ਅਿੰਤ ॥ • Their names are uncounted and

endless. • ਕਰਮੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਿੀਿਾਰੁ ॥ • By their deeds and their actions, they

shall be judged. • .

• ਸਿਾ ਆਵਪ ਸਿਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥ • God Himself is True, and True is His

Court. • ਵਤਥੈ ਸੋਹਵਿ ਪੰਿ ਪਰਿਾਣੁ ॥ • There, in perfect grace and ease, sit the

self-elect, the self-realized Saints. • ਿਦਰੀ ਕਰਵਮ ਪਿੈ ਿੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ • They receive the Mark of Grace from

the Merciful Lord. • ਕਿ ਪਕਾਈ ਓਥੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ • The ripe and the unripe, the good and

the bad, shall there be judged • ਿਾਿਕ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਪੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩੪॥ • O Nanak, when you go home, you will

see this. ||34|| • .

True fruit – Phal – ang 274

• ਬੈਸਿੋ ਸੋ ਵਜਸੁ ਊਪਵਰ ਸੁਪਰਸੰਿ ॥ • The true Vaishnaav, the devotee

of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.

• ਵਬਸਿ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਵਭੰਿ ॥ • He dwells apart from Maya. • ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਿੈ ਵਿਹਕਰਮ ॥ • Performing good deeds, he does

not seek rewards. • ਵਤਸੁ ਬੈਸਿੋ ਕਾ ਵਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥ • Spotlessly pure is the religion of

such a Vaishnaav; • ਕਾਹੂ ਿਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਿਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥ • he has no desire for the fruits of

his labors.

• ਕੇਿਲ ਭਗਵਤ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੰਵਗ ਰਾਿੈ ॥ • He is absorbed in devotional

worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.

• ਮਿ ਤਿ ਅੰਤਵਰ ਵਸਮਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ • Within his mind and body, he

meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.

• ਸਭ ਊਪਵਰ ਹੋਿਤ ਵਕਰਪਾਲ ॥ • He is kind to all creatures. • ਆਵਪ ਵਦਰੜੈ ਅਿਰਹ ਿਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਿੈ ॥ • He holds fast to the Naam, and

inspires others to chant it. • ਿਾਿਕ ਓਿੁ ਬੈਸਿੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਨਤ ਪਾਵੈ

॥੨॥ • O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains

the supreme status. ||2||

Get to the stage of – ang 534

• ਰਾਜੁ ਿ ਿਾਹਉ ਮੁਕਵਤ ਿ ਿਾਹਉ ਮਵਿ ਪਰੀਵਤ ਿਰਿ

ਕਮਲਾਰੇ ॥ • I do not seek power, and I do not seek

liberation. My mind is in love with Your Lotus Feet.

.. And then there is Nadar.. Mehla 5… Ang 1139

• ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ • Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

• ਨਜਸੁ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਨਿ ਨਤਸੁ ਕਉਿੁ ਮਾਰੈ ॥ • Who can kill that person whom You protect, O Lord?

• ਸਭ ਤੁਿ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ॥ • All beings, and the entire universe, is within You.

• ਕੋਵਟ ਉਪਾਿ ਵਿਤਿਤ ਹੈ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥ • The mortal thinks up millions of plans,

• ਸੋ ਹੋਿੈ ਵਜ ਕਰੈ ਿੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ • but that alone happens, which the Lord of wondrous plays does.

• ਰਾਖਿੁ ਰਾਖਿੁ ਨਕਰਪਾ ਿਾਨਰ ॥ • Save me, save me, O Lord; shower me with Your Mercy.

• ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਣ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਵਾਨਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ • I seek Your Sanctuary, and Your Court. ||1||Pause||

• ਵਜਵਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥ • Whoever serves the Fearless Lord, the Giver of Peace,

• ਵਤਵਿ ਭਉ ਦੂਵਰ ਕੀਆ ਏਕੁ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥ • is rid of all his fears; he knows the One Lord.

• ਜੋ ਤੂ ਕਰਵਹ ਸੋਈ ਿੁਵਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ • Whatever You do, that alone comes to pass in the end.

• ਮਾਰੈ ਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ • There is no other who can kill or protect us. ||2||

• ਵਕਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਿਵਹ ਮਾਣਸ ਬਾਵਣ ॥ • What do you think, with your human understanding?

• ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥ • The All-knowing Lord is the Searcher of Hearts.

• ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਏਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ • The One and only Lord is my Support and Protection.

• ਸਭ ਵਕਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਵਸਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ • The Creator Lord knows everything. ||3||

• ਨਜਸੁ ਊਪਨਰ ਿਦਨਰ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ • That person who is blessed by the Creator's Glance of Grace-

• ਵਤਸੁ ਜਿ ਕੇ ਸਵਭ ਕਾਜ ਸਿਾਵਰ ॥ • all his affairs are resolved.

• ਵਤਸ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥ • The One Lord is his Protector.

• ਜਿ ਿਾਿਕ ਅਪਵੜ ਿ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੭॥ • O servant Nanak, no one can equal him. ||4||4||17||
