Nintendo presents: Crossword Collectionrepresents a return to basics – albeit onewith a few twists, turns and flourishes.

At the heart of the game are over1,000 puzzles covering all possiblelevels of difficulty. There is plenty to getstuck into here for puzzlers of all agesand abilities.

The crosswords are completed byholding the DS vertically, like an openbook. The clues appear on one screen,the crossword itself on the other. Playersfill in the puzzle by writing straight ontothe screen using their stylus.

When the going gets too tough, theycan fall back on various hints and tipsto get them going again.

As well as the 1,000+ crosswords, theCollection also includes a selection ofword searches and anagrams to keepthe mind sharp.

Have there been crosswordgames before on the DS – and ifso, how did they do?There are a few crossword-basedtitles already available for theNintendo DS. However, none ofthem contain the same depth ofcontent and quality of user interfaceas we hope this new title has. Plus,none have been backed with thesame comprehensive marketingactivity that we have planned.

What’s different in this game?Beyond the huge number of puzzlesthat offers more than any othersingle title, we have tried to ensurethat it has the most user-friendlyexperience available. We have takenour experience from titles like Dr.Kawashima's Brain Training: How OldIs Your Brain? and 100 Classic BookCollection to offer class-leadinghandwriting recognition technologyin this title, which will represent themost intuitive gameplay available.

There are obviously loads ofcrosswords in newspapers andmagazines and on the net everyday. Why will people want to playthem on their DS, do you think?Playing crosswords on the DS offerslots of benefits over more traditionalforms. No longer are you limited tojust completing one puzzle at a timeon longer journeys, as you have over1,000 puzzles available. You don’thave to worry about makingcorrections to mistakes, because youcan quickly and easily updateanything you have entered.

For me, this is a key feature asmany times I have ruined mycrossword in the paper with arushed answer. It's really aboutoffering new experiences andvalue to our installed base.

How tough do they get? Is thisreally for serious puzzlers?With six levels of difficulty on thepuzzles in this title, there should besomething appropriate for everyone.We have spent a lot of timeperfecting the puzzles availablethrough extensive testing and weare confident that there will bedifficult puzzles for the mostexperienced player alongsidepuzzles for those who are beginners.

What are the extra elements ofthe game, beyond just filling in blanks?Beyond the 1,000 crosswordpuzzles, we also offer an extensivecollection of other puzzles likewordsearch and anagrams.

How important is price point fora game like this? And what pricedo you think it will be selling at?As we are aiming at our BrainTraining consumers, we are hopingto offer this title at a similar price.However, as we don't set prices Ican't confirm what this will be.

The game comes out onDecember 18th. Do you think it’sa Christmas game or an all-year-round seller?Christmas gifting just representsthe first opportunity for this title,but there is no reason why saleswould be limited to this period.Crosswords can be enjoyed at anytime, so we hope that this title will exhibit a long tail of sales inthe future.

I guess this is one of thoseNintendo ‘games’ that isn’t aimedat gamers at all. How does thataffect your PR and marketingcampaigns?As gaming expands to appeal toconsumers of all ages, it isimportant that we offer titles thatwill appeal to different groups andthat we adapt our communicationto suit them.

The great thing about DS is thatas the library of titles continues togrow, we can ensure that there aregames for everyone that will keepthem coming back for more.

The marketingwill focus on the message that Nintendo presents: CrosswordCollection is the newest addition to the ever growing range ofNintendo DS titles targeted at the Brain Training audience, offeringgreat value, intuitive gameplay and a new exciting way toexperience crossword puzzles.

The marketing for Nintendo presents: Crossword Collectioncentres around a TV campaign which starts on Christmas Eve andwill run for three weeks. Launching in the UK and Ireland on the18th December Nintendo is hoping for a unique share of voiceover the Christmas period, targeting existing Nintendo DS owners,taking advantage of last minute gift purchases and offering morereasons for non-users to experience Nintendo DS for the first time.
