impressive background in Sweet Adelines. Although she has been

“Times They are A-Changin.” Bob Dylan wrote these memorable lyrics in 1964 and never before in the life of Nine Online have they been truer.
When I began my job last month as the new editor, I brought with me a laundry list of things I wanted to tweak, change, revamp and turn upside down. I set to work by immediately breathing new life into the look and feel of the publication by sprucing up the masthead and adding some more color to the pages. I also, with the regional Communication Team’s blessing, changed the name from Nine On Line to Nine Online to better reflect the times. (Online wasn’t a word when it was originally named years ago.)
While we were in Daytona last month, I spoke to some people and asked if they had seen the new Nine Online. The overwhelming majority had not seen it for various reasons. Three newer members didn’t know what Nine Online was! My little “uh-oh” voice went off and I quickly realized that none of the changes on my list will mean a thing if Nine Online isn’t being read. I knew at that moment the first thing that had to be overhauled was the distribution process.
Nine Online began as a printed publication and was distributed to choruses at regional meetings. Later, in the mid-2000s, the cost of printing became exorbitant and the newsletter was published as a PDF document and distributed by
email. Currently, the newsletter is emailed to one person in each chapter who, in turn, distributes it to the chapter members. This usually happens on a quarterly basis. This method worked beautifully for a while, but apparently it has become old and definitely outdated.
The regional Communications Team has been working on an updated distribution method that will put Nine Online directly in each individual member’s e-mailbox. This will be done by an online subscription that will be nothing more than a couple of clicks on a link that we will provide in the short-term future. Watch your e-mail for that exciting announcement!

With regard to frequency, Nine Online will remain quarterly for now, although we will do extra editions (like this one) as needed to alert the members of breaking regional news.
We will be adding more features to Nine Online and making some adjustments to submission guidelines so that we only bring you news that is interesting, timely and educational. We’ll also bring you news from quartets, words of wisdom from our Region 9 Queens, educational features, exciting news from other regions, and more. Please take a moment, at your next rehearsal, to share this information with your chorus and let everyone know that Times They Are A-Changin’.

singing since age 2, she didn’t discover Sweet Adelines until she was recruited into Song of Atlanta in 1977, and has enjoyed singing, performing, and directing barbershop harmony ever since. As a tenor, Elaine has competed almost every year in quartets and choruses, both in Region 23 and in Region 9 (Royal Palm Chorus, Women of Note, and Spirit of the Gulf). She has won numerous awards, including many quartet medals. One of her special memories is competing with Fireworks! Quartet (Region 9) at the international level and placing 12th, their first time on stage! She especially cherishes the 1st place medal won by the Women Of Note Chorus at the International Harmony Classic in 2005. Elaine has served on the Music Education Faculties of both Region 23 and Region 9. After obtaining her SAI Director's Certification in Region 9 in 2006, she has proudly served as Assistant Director, Associate Director, and Interim Director of the Women of
Note Chorus, and now as Frontline Director of Platinum Coast Chorus. We would also like to acknowledge, with gratitude, our Interim Director Deb Peterson. Deb is one of our Assistant Directors who has an impressive
background in music education and experience. She has kept us performance-ready with her enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work during many months of scheduled performances. She has also served as CO-Director of the Harbor City Harmonizers’ Annual Christmas Show, which, for the last two years featured the Platinum Coast Chorus.
In March, we presented our 37th Annual Show entitled “Magic In The Attic.” It included a delightful musical journey down memory lane for three grown, childhood friends. They had the task of sorting through an old trunk in the attic filled with family memorabilia, and much to
their surprise, a magical genie! The magic continued as our featured guest quartet So Divine (Region 9), enchanted our audience with their melodic harmony. These talented young women competed in the
Rising Star Competition in Denver, and are sure to have a bright future in Sweet Adelines. Please visit them at www.sodivine.com. The PCC is honored to announce the Marie Bennett Scholarship Fund which was created for music scholarships and education for students in the local area. The fund was initiated by the generous donations provided by Marie’s family in appreciation of the chorus’ performance of Marie’s Musical Life Celebration, after her passing last summer. PCC is growing and has gained three new members, plus two dual members from Women of
Note who journey with Elaine, and are helping us prepare for competition in Daytona. We welcome women who love to sing, so please join us on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the West Melbourne Recreation Complex, 2285 Minton Road. Visit www.platinumcoastchorus.com or on Facebook.
