Panchkula Management Association (PMA) organised an interactive talk on 'how to get

heart attacks' having a connotation as to how to avoid heart attack. The satirical

presentation on the subject was delivered by Dr. Sudhir Saxena, principal consultant and

coordinator, cardiac sciences at Max. Super Specialty Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Saxena said

that more than 70 per cent of the Indian population is susceptible to cardio-vascular

diseases but the alarming revelation is that more and more young population in the age

groups of 20-40 are developing risk to heart diseases due to sedentary corporate

lifestyle having jobs for long sitting devoid of physical activity coupled with high stress

level and dependence on junk food.Dr. Saxena said heart attack symptom is diffused chest pain or discomfort and

breathlessness. People should not live in denial mode taking these symptoms as gas

problem. Obesity, diabetes and hypertension are some of the main causes of heart

diseases. Regular check up is necessary, more so with advancing age and getting your

health monitored as regards sugar level, high blood pressure by doctors is paramount to

avoid heart problems. To stay healthy, you must fully understand your current health

status as well as your risk of developing diseases in the future. Third-leading cause of

death in the world is heart attacks which are preventable and treatable, he added.Dr.

Saxena said that a city does not become modern with its roads and building until the

inhabitant of the city does not become health conscious and provide social and

emotional support to the community for the prevention of cardiac or other health

related events. He said that the best city to live in is Seattle. Every person living in that

city knows how to respond in case a heart attack is reported in the neighborhood or in

the vicinity. A group of well rehearsed people show up at your doorstep for the first aid,

i.e. pumping the chest to save someone's life and shifting you to the nearby hospital.

Many prominent citizens of Panchkula and Chandigarh attended the session, which was

chaired by Mr. Vinay Aggarwal, senior vice president and was summed up with vote of

thanks by Mr. Rajeev Sharma, IAS (Retd.)
