Nikon's New 1ntry-"e el D!"#offers steady impro ement and superb

functionality(o impro e on the D5300 was always going to be tough& so perhaps we shouldn't be too

surprised that the Nikon D5200 has smaller impro ements o er it's predecessor than the

    D4200 does o er the D4300.

owe er the impro ements that the D5200 does

offer manages to put it onto a different le el. (he

actual impro ement of about 25C. (his means

that you can enlarge or crop your images - or

    impro e the dynamic range.

is slightly smaller and lighter than it's predecessor& but still feels good in hand. Nikon ha e

kept the ari-angle back screen which has been so popular with the D5300 users and

a oided making it touch sensiti e.

(he Nikon 5200 is a grown-up enthusiast D!"# camera with plenty of functionality and

high uality options. (he file si%e& processor and +7 points will please most serious

We ha e all dreamt of ha ing a studio somewhere& ha en't weM nce it was almostimpossible& but these days& with relati ely cheap lights and a little imagination& it is easier

than e er. When buying lights you will first need to choose between continuous or strobe

EflashF lighting. (he former comes in two kinds - tungsten or fluorescent - and the choice is

largely a matter of personal taste.

(ungsten lights are sometimes referred to as Vhot lightsV because they emit heat Ewhich

can be a problem if your sub/ect is going to be underneath them for a long timeF. (hey

tend to glow with a warmer light and so gi e a 'reddish' result which can be great for skin

the sort of light most associated with pack shots or realistic still-lifes. (hey tend not to emit

so much heat. (he main benefit of continuous lighting is that you can easily see how itaffects the sub/ect as you set it up. (his means that there are fewer surprises through the

iewfinder and it allows you to worry about content and composition rather than wondering

if the flash /ust went off. owe er& it isn't really compatible with action shots& where the

sub/ect may be mo ing around. +nd they do gi e off heat. )t is most appropriate for portrait

:ou can ad/ust the intensity of your light to suit your needs& which means that you ha e

more control o er your shutter speeds. owe er& because of the blast that comes out ofthe strobes& they do take a short time to recharge& which can be frustrating.
