The ImplementationOf the old building, only the concrete structure remained standing; the rest was demolished and replaced.

Lighting controls and intelligent sensors monitor movement and light intensity throughout the building to ensure that whatever amount of daylight is available; it provides just the right amount of light.

This sensor technology uses a combination of passive infrared and ultrasonic technology to switch the lights on and off when necessary – to avoid lights being left on by accident. The infrared monitors switch lights on whilst ultrasonic technology is used to keep them on when rooms are occupied.

Most lights in the new Niko building are energy effi cient LEDs. Using the Nikobus home automation system, the LEDs in the car park and in the glass facade of the building constantly change colour, with white LEDs in the cloakrooms, at the building’s entrance, and many other areas.

Niko also has 4,367 solar panels on the roof providing as

much as 800,000 kW of electricity – or approximately one month’s energy consumption.

The Niko video entry system is used in the car parks. The despatch department sees drivers on the screen, talks with them via the telephone and admits them.

The building also enjoys the Niko audio distribution system, so there is always music in the bathrooms, lunchroom, and lobby areas.

As befi ts a Niko installation, all equipment throughout the building was programmed and commissioned in a couple of days, and is managed by the maintenance department.

The building is future-proofed, and is surprisingly fl exible - you can change a setting, or even a meeting room to an offi ce, with just one call to the maintenance department. It is all simply a matter of programming.

If Niko expands then the automation system will follow suit. The ideal solution for a company that never stands still.
