ThewinnertrophyofNIITMindChampionsAcademy-ChessMaster2008wasbaggedbyBhaktiJuikar,astudentfromIESV.NSuleSchool,Mumbai.WhileTejasArora,astudentfromSpringdaleSeniorSecondarySchool,Amritsar,Punjabwasadjudgedasthe1stRunner-Up,TonsenMongwang,fromJoyporeHSSchool,Dibrugarh,Assamwasannouncedasthe2ndRunner-Upforthenationallevelchesscontest.

Attheawardceremony,KarthikeyanMurali,theInternationalFideRatedPlayerwiththeratingof1780,wasalsohonoured.Karthikeyan Murali, the State Champion during the year 2008 in the Under-11 age category was sponsored by theMindChampionsAcademyfortheAllIndiaChessFinalsatAhmedabadinAugust2008andothercompetitionstoimprovehisFIDErating.Currently,hestands40thoutofthe210participantatthenationallevel.

Sh. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Communications and IT, recognized the commendableperformanceoftheyoungMindChampionsinthegameofChessandencouragedthemtocontinuetoexhibitthesamezealandbrilliance.HesaidthatthebuddingtalentneedstobementoredandguidedandthatNIITMindChampionsAcademyisofferingtheaspiringyoungChessplayersaperfectplatformtolearnandgrow.

AccordingtoMr.RajendraSPawar,Chairman,NIITLtd.,“Chessimprovesacademicsandmentaldevelopment.TheNIITMindChampionsAcademywillpopularizeChessinIndia’sSchools.”

Thenationwidechesscontestwitnessedwidespreadparticipationbyover2,00,000studentsfromover3400GovernmentandPrivateSchoolsspreadacross24statesandUnionTerritories.Therecordparticipationwasmadepossibleduetomatchesbeingplayedovertheinternetfromdistrictlevelonwardsacrossthenation.ThisallowedschoolsevenfromtheremoteareaswhereNIIThasbeenworkingwithstategovernmentschoolsaswellasprivateschoolstoeducateandtrainthekidsinuseofICT,toenrollforChessMaster2008.

ThegrandfinaleofMindChampionsAcademyChessMaster2008sawwinnersfromNorth,East,WestandSouthzonesvyingfortheNationalLevelHonourofChessMaster2008.ThewinnersfromthefourzonesalsogotanopportunitytoplaysimultaneousChesswiththeWorldChessChampion,ViswanathanAnand.

FelicitatingthewinnersofNIITMindChampionsAcademy-ChessMaster2008,ViswanathanAnandsaid,“ItisaproudfeelingtoseetheseyoungchildrenactivelytakepartinNIITMindChampionsAcademy-ChessMaster2008.Icongratulatethewinnersandwishthemabrightfutureahead.”
