Nickel, Nickel Thick & Fat
Activities for the Nickel:1. Spin-A-Nickel - Partner game. Copy on card stock and laminate. Use dry-erase markers. Use brad and paperclip or pencil and paperclip for thespinner. Student spins spinner, says heads or tails, marks a box for thecorrect one. Students get 10 turns each. Students can math talk abouttheir results.
2. Flip-A-Nickel - Copy on card stock, cut in half and laminate. Individual play.Students are given a nickel. Flip nickel and record using a dry erasemarker. After each ip and record, student will cross out a pig to keep upwith how many ips they have had.
3. Pennies or Nickels - Students color pennies brown and nickels gray. Count
how many pennies/nickels and record.4. The Nickel Poem - Students can trace and color the penny poem for theirpoetry journals.
5. Nickel Poem poster - Print and laminate, use in classroom.6. Count Your Nickels - Copy on card stock and laminate. Students can play
with partner or individually. Give a cup with 4 nickels. Shake the nickels inthe cup and dump them on the oor or math mat. Use a dry erase markerto mark how many were heads and how many were tails. Mark off one pigfor each turn. When 5 turns are up, count and record how many wereheads and how many were tails. Then record which had less and whichhad more.
