APPLIED RESEARCH

Services:

1. LCMS and GCMS based analytical services are provided to several Pakistani Food Exporters, i. e. Rafhan Maize Products, Ltd., Faisalabad; Reem Rice Mills, Lahore; S. A. Rice Mills, Faisalabad; Bahoo Rice Mills, Okara; Al Imran Floor Mills, Rawalpindi; Food Links, Lahore; GAT Consultants Company, Lahore; Custom Department, Lahore; A. N. I. Pine Nuts Trading Company, Lahore; Deharki Sugar Mills, Ghotki, Sindh; Department of Plant Protection, Karachi.

2. Developed several validated analytical methods, which established Pakistan’s capability for the confirmatory analysis of aflatoxins and veterinary drug residues in food samples. These methods serve the basis of analytical services offered to the food exporters/local companies and significantly contributed towards the reduction of rejection rate of the Pakistani food consignment (rice, maize, nuts) in the European market.

Process Development:

3. Developed an efficient and up-scalable process to clean aflatoxins in cereals in collaboration with Agrocom Pvt, Ltd., Lahore and Rice Export Association of Pakistan (REAP).

Products Development:

4. Developed aflatoxins binder for poultry feed in collaboration with A&K Pharmaceuticals, Faisalabad. Our detailed investigation revealed that aflatoxins binder formulation comprised of aqueous & ethanolic extracts of Eucalyptus citriodora leaves, milk thistle, baker yeast and bentonite clay, gave excellent results (>95% aflatoxins binding activity at 100µg/Kg concentration). This formulation exhibits comparable efficiency & may replace the imported aflatoxins binder product (Fixar® by Bentoli).

5. Developed the laboratory scale whole cell and conjugate vaccine candidates against Pasteurella multocida and Salmonella Typhi, respectively.

Feasibility Studies:

Completed feasibility about bioleachability of Saindak Copper ore
