Connected

Learning

“Connected learning, as its name implies,

works to connect these spheres more

purposefully.

The goal is not to fully integrate these

spheres of learning—each requires its own

autonomous space—but to build

connections, hand-offs, and sites of

translation

in order to reach more young people where

they are. By giving equal weight to all of

these different sites of learning,

we can create more entry points and

diversify the pathways towards learning and

opportunity” (65).

What are innovation hubs? Hubs are collaborative cross-departmental groups in

which librarians and faculty come together on common themes of strategic

importance.

Hubs act as a “research and development lab” to explore, imagine, and

brainstorm new roles and activities for the Media Center and deeper understandings about

NHS in teaching, learning, and service.

They also are a “strike force” that implements, supports, and assesses

emerging library roles and activities as well as teacher initiated projects and

strategies.
