Medical Assistants are a demanding profession yet very rewarding. I was fully introduced to the hospital setting when a close friend was diagnosed with cancer. I was so overwhelmed by how medical professions showed empathy, united together and illustrated team work not only for my friend but also for me and her family keeping us updated as well as supporting us.

I am currently employed as an Non-Emergency Ambulance Care Assistant transferring non-emergency patients to and from health or social care settings, including hospitals, for pre-arranged appointments. I enjoy helping people and have a calm and friendly personality, and have the ability to reassure anxious patients.

I am also currently volunteering at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital based on Birch Ward for patients who have been transferred from other trusts for coronary intervention. Volunteering has enabled me to observe and experience the role of assistants first hand, along with how they play a part in the working of a multidisciplinary team. Through volunteering there has also been the opportunity to communicate with patients whilst helping to distribute the food and drink.

The skills needed for medical professions is the ability to help people, to be effective in there communication, be an active listener, compassionate and have good ethos with an understanding but yet nurturing nature, which I believe I have a professional manner is required at all times, always ensuring that the data protection act is adhered to, this includes patient confidentiality which I currently follow whilst volunteering. I know that I am mature and confident enough to comply with all the above and feel that I could be a valuable member to a professional team.

I have a degree in BA (Honours) Physical Education which consisted of modules such as science of movement, expressive movements in PE and the anatomical and psychological basis of human movements. I really enjoyed researching the functions of the human body and am fascinated with how the body functions in a theatre setting and its ability to remain in a stable state. I have excellent attendance and punctuality; I work well as an individual and part of a team.

I pride myself on my organisational and time keeping skills, which are necessary to enable me to prioritise voluntary work, work and family life. I will prove to be an excellent medical assistant with the right training and support, where I will endeavour to succeed with every task given and complete with best of my ability. Being proactive and thinking of my feet is second nature for me. Providing quality care and helping pro longing patients’ lives is where my heart lies
