NHS suppliers must comply with the NHS timeline for adoption of the e-Procurement Strategy. Here are the steps that every supplier must follow*:
NHS E-PROCUREMENT STRATEGY
1. Sign a Statement of commitment Commitment to adoption of GS1 and PEPPOL standards
Document the expected timelines for completion of the process
Highlight the level of support and buy-in within the organisation
2. Become a member of GS1 Contact GS1 UK or at www.gs1uk.org
3. Allocate GS1 location identifier for your company (GLN)
Global Location Numbers (GLNs) identify your company, its signifi-cant locations and organisational teams.
4. Add the NHS acute trusts GS1 GLN identifiers to your company systems
GLNs must be adopted internally to identify the relevant locations in the information when trading with the NHS.
5. Allocate GS1 product identifier to your products (GTIN)
Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) identify product packaging hierarchy from unit of use through to shipper/case to identify products through the GDSN network using a datapool.
7. Implement electronic orders and invoices using the PEPPOL standard with GS1 identifiers
Suppliers must join a PEPPOL Access Point in order to receive and send electronic messages with the NHS.
6. Establish the capability and sustai-nable processes needed to extract and consolidate product and price infor-mation required by the NHS
NHS acute trusts will need to receive your product information including logistics, regulatory, marketing and safety data attributes to create accurate electronic records for their inventory manage-ment and product catalogue systems.
8. Aix GS1 compliant barcode labels to your product packaging
These labels will include both a GS1 product identifier (GTIN) and the product’s production information.

We own a GS1 certified Data Pool, able to operate in the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN). We export product data from your article master record and upload it to the NHS GS1 repository. Our electronic catalogue, EDICOMData, ensures full traceabi-lity throughout the supply process.
Certified PEPPOL Access PointEDICOM is accredited as PEPPOL Access Point, which allows us to link up with the PEPPOL network. Our certified EDICOM PEPPOL Access Point makes it possible for both suppliers and hospitals to work in an automated, integra-ted way, as they both need Access Points to connect with the NHS. This platform achieves secure and direct exchange of transactions, centralising communications with multiple partners from a unique data sending and reception point.
