Going On “The March”The historic 1963 March on Washington

was a watershed moment in the Civil Rights Movement that helped usher in sweeping civil rights legislation and a sea change in public opinion.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the march, a new documentary reveals the dramatic back-story through interviews with key players such as Jack O’Dell, Clarence B. Jones, Julian Bond and Andrew Young.

With exhaustive research and remarkable rare archival footage, The March recounts the dramatic circumstances leading up to the march. It also explains how one of the most important events in the Civil Rights Movement almost didn’t happen.

Telling the story of the March are Harry Belafonte, Diahann Carroll, Roger Mudd, Peter Yarrow and Oprah Winfrey, as well as historians, journalists, authors and ordinary citizens who joined some 250,000 Americans who thronged to the capital on that momentous day to peacefully demand an end to two centuries of discrimination and injustice.

“The story of people who suffered profound injustice in America and fought it with sacrifice and courage is something we should never forget,” said Executive Producer Robert Redford. “I hope the generations who see this film will be inspired by it.”

The event, which will forever be remembered for Dr. Martin Luther

King, Jr.’s stirring “I Have a Dream” speech, endures today as a symbol of unity and monumental impact.

In honor of that time which changed our national attitude toward race and equality in America, NHPTV is also airing several programs that reflect that era in our history.

Life Of MuhammadChart the extraordinary story of a man who, in little more

than 20 years, changed the world. In a journey both literal and historical, host Rageh Omaar travels to the place of Muhammad’s birth to retrace the footsteps of the prophet, from his humble beginnings in Mecca to his struggles with accepting his prophetic role.

Solve New Mysteries On Masterpiece This Summer!

What could have become of Miss Froy? Masterpiece puts a new spin on a familiar story in The

Lady Vanishes, adapted from Ethel Lina White’s 1936 novel and Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic film.

It is 1931. Returning home on a train from vacation in the Balkans, beautiful young socialite Iris Carr (Tuppence Middleton, Inspector Lewis) is befriended by an Englishwoman she knows only as “Miss Froy.”

When Iris falls asleep, she awakens to find Miss Froy missing. Her fellow passengers deny Miss Froy ever existed. With only the support of the infatuated young engineer, Max Hare (Tom Hughes, Silk), Iris is convinced that Miss Froy has been abducted. As Iris’ unswerving certitude takes on the appearance of madness, she finds herself struggling for her sanity—and for her life.

Actors featured include Keeley Hawes (Upstairs Downstairs), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Any Human Heart), Danish actress Benedikte Hansen, Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones’ Diary) and Stephanie Cole (Doc Martin).

Masterpiece: The Lady Vanishes • August 18 at 9 PM

“Innocent until proven guilty. Four words to live by” is no easy task when Martha Costello has one night to prep for two big cases. Then she must face her ruthless rival Clive Reader in her defense of an accused rapist.

The stage and courtroom are set for this new Masterpiece series, Silk, a modern, fast-paced legal drama following the conflicts, passions and intrigues of criminal law.

It stars Maxine Peak (Little Dorrit) and Rupert Penry-Jones (The 39 Steps) as rival barristers with very different work styles, yet one key similarity: both will do anything to get to the top.

Barrister Costello is the favored new pick to ascend the professional ladder to the Queen’s Counsel, also known as “taking Silk.” But can she stand the personal and professional pressures put on her?

Masterpiece: Silk • August 25 at 9 PM on NHPTV PRIME
