Premier Fantasy has really become a strong influence in Australia because he does so well with our lines.

Any mating he does with Aussie lines will generally bring in the link between Laurdella Fun (found three times in Premier Fantasy’s pedigree) and that of his litter brother, Waverly Supreme*.

Don’t underest imate th is influence, even though it may not be as obvious within the pedigree.

Mepunga Nicky’s dam has two crosses of Waverly Supreme, both through his son, Chariot Supreme.

But what I love about the Mepunga Nicky pedigree is her dam, Mepunga Diamond, the winner of 11 races, including wins at Sandown and The Meadows.

Her pedigree shows three crosses of Brother Fox, two of New Tears and two of Dusty Rapid… all of which have strains of the foundation bitch, Magenta. This is the same damline as Malawi’s Prince.

Mepunga Diamond is also line bred to the Osti Lee damline via the males, Gun Law Osti and Osti’s Idol, who are virtual brothers.

When it comes time to mate Mepunga Nicky, I hope a stud dog with Malawi’s Prince in his make-up is contemplated.

NOT one, not two, not three, but

four. That was Billy Bobaggings (Big

Daddy Cool - Miss Connecticut), the white and black dog who built on his reputation with some sterling performances around Wentworth Park.

He was a nice stayer, who had run better than handy times over the 520 metres around Sydney’s premier track, and then showed his class when switched to the longer distances.

He made the final of last Saturday night’s Sydney Cup after winning a heat in style, only to break a leg in the final. His pedigree really does enthuse a pedigree fanatic like me.

That’s because he had within his first few generations some of the best “nicks” that greyhound racing in this country has seen.

And even further back he carried a number of ancestors who are linked together.

Whenever analyzing a pedigree, it is always wise to look at the immediate tail female line.

Famed thoroughbred breeder, Fredrico Tesio always said the worst part of a pedigree is generally the tail female line.

By that he meant generally the bitches are nowhere near the class of the ancestors within the rest of the pedigree.

In Billy Bobaggings’ case, this was hardly the case.

That’s because he stemmed from the famous Osti Lee damline.

His fifth dam is none other than

Osti’s Shadow, dam of high class race bitches Pilgrim’s Star and her litter sister, Paris Match (both by Brother Fox). In the pedigree of Billy, Osti’s Shadow is represented by her daughter, Startling Osti (by Brother Fox’s son, Amerigo Man).

I am surprised the Miss Connecticut family has not been mated with Where’s Pedro or Hallucinate, or their half brother, Pure Octane, to reinforce Osti’s Shadow… a winning formula.

But it is the strong ‘nicks’ found in the pedigree of Billy that deserve looking at.

Let’s go through each and see just why they may have produced a good Group class dog like this.

The first has to be the 3x4 link between champions Flying Amy and True Temptation.

They are bred identically and are the real reason why Just The Best and Token Prince, their sons, have done so well when crossed with each other.

I see many city winners sired by Big Daddy Cool out of Token Prince bitches. This is the pedigree of Flying Amy: Amerigo Man Flying Amy Tenthill Flyer (grand-daughter of Bay Road Queen) And the pedigree of True Temptation: Amerigo Man True Temptation Bay Supreme (daughter of Bay Road Queen)

Now we switch to the link between Wee Sal and Shining Chariot, who are found 3x4 in the pedigree of Billy Bobaggings.

I have written a number of times before just how strong this cross is, and how Wee Sal and Shining Chariot are an ideal “balance” to any pedigree in which they appear.

In the pedigree of Billy Bobaggings, they are positioned to be able to make an impact.

This is the pedigree of Wee Sal: Chariot Supreme Wee Sal I’m Blessed (x Bowetzel) The pedigree of Shining Chariot is: Chariot Supreme Shining Chariot Shining Light (half-sister to Bowetzel)

Take a close look at the pedigree of champion, Betty’s Angel, the great galloper and fine sire, Trewly Special, etc. etc. etc., and you will see the influence Wee Sal and Shining Chariot have had on their make-up.

It won’t always work of course, but in Billy Bobaggings it has.

What I also like about Billy’s pedigree is the fact that his dam, Miss Connecticut carries a cross of Centrefire, a sister to Shining Chariot.

B e t t y ’ s A n g e l ’ s d a m , Leprechaun Yap has a double cross of Shining Chariot.

The third strong cross in this pedigree is that between the great producers Zulu Moss and Riviera Moss.

They are by Clay Moss-Cursorial.

Miss Connecticut is by Awesome Assassin, whose third dam is Mad Midge, a daughter of Riviera Tiger (Temlee - Riviera Moss).

Big Daddy Cool, sire of Billy, traces directly to Worth Doing, whose dam is Versatile Miss (Waverly Supreme - Zimbabwe).

Zimbabwe is a daughter of Temlee and Zulu Moss, and thus is a genetic sister to Riviera Tiger.

This link is nowhere near as strong as that between Wee Sal and Shining Chariot… but it is in the pedigree, and who is to say it cannot make some impact.

Another aspect of this mating I particularly like, and the fourth strong bond in Billy’s pedigree, is the fact that New Tears is a very dominant ancestor within the pedigree of sire, Big Daddy Cool.

Billy’s pedigree shows a duplication 3x4 of New Tears, who is balanced coming via his daughter, Sobbing Sal and son, Light Of Fire.

What is also interesting in this pedigree is the fact that Sobbing Sal and Light Of Fire are also bred on almost identical lines.

Both are by New Tears from a daughter of Chariot Supreme, and both have Princess Diro is their immediate tail female line.

So that is actually FIVE strong links within the pedigree of Billy Bobaggings… but whose counting.
