1 July 2013 Kia Orana and welcome to my June e-newsletter. Highlights of June: Jun 1 Samoans world-wide celebrated Samoa's Independence Day, the first Pacific country to be independent for 51 years. Jun 3: Maualaivao Professor Albert Wendt received the highest honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. He was appointed as a member of the order of New Zealand for his contribution and services to literature - a magnificent achievement for a most renowned and respected writer. Jun 6: It was an honour to open with prayer and devotion the annual Auckland regional Police Fono at N gatapuwae Community C entre in Man gere. Close to two hundred Pacific Police officers, detectives, former officers and Police board advisors attended. The main aim was to discuss the alignment of police strategy - prevention first, in how Police will work together with pacific communities, schools, churches, council, agencies and local MPs in keeping communities safe.
