Curried Lentil Soup1tbsp veg oil1 or 2 tbsp curry powder 1 onion chopped

3 carrots peeled & diced finely

250g lentils1.2 ltrs veg stock

salt & peppertabasco sauce (optional)Greek yogurt to serveMethodHeat oil in a large saucepan. Add onion and fry gently for 10 mins, add garlic and fry for another 5 mins til onions are soft. Add curry powder, stir and cook for 1 min. Add carrots and mix well. Cook for 1 min. Add lentils and stock and stir well. Bring to the boil and simmer until lentil and carrot are soft (about 20 mins). Liquidise and place back in pan. Taste and season accordingly. I find no salt needed if I use stock cubes. If you want the soup to have an extra kick add a few drops of Tabasco. To serve add a swirl of Greek yogurt to each bowl.

On a cold dark night nothing warms you up like a steaming bowl of soup with some crusty bread. All these recipes are easy to make and taste delicious.

This soup is mild, thick and very creamy.30g butter1x onion chopped1x cauliflower cut into florets250ml milk600ml veg stock150g mature cheddar gratedsalt & pepper 1 tsp paprika

MethodMelt butter in a large saucepan. Cook onions gently until soft. Add the cauliflower and stir. Add stock. Bring to boil and simmer until florets are just tender. This will only take a few minutes. Take off heat and allow to cool for 10 mins. Add grated cheese and milk and stir. Liquidise until smooth. Place back in pan and heat gently. Season to taste. You shouldn't need much salt due to the cheese. Once in bowls sprinkle with paprika. Also delicious with crispy bacon scattered over.

Cauliflower Cheese Soup

French Onion Soup30g butter2 tbsp olive oil700g onions thinly sliced1 ltre beef stock250ml white wine2 cloves garlic crushedsalt & pepper to tasteFrench stick200/250g gruyere cheese grated

MethodHeat oil and butter in large saucepan and fry onion and garlic gently until browned and soft (about 30 mins). Be careful not to burn the onions. Add the stock and wine and bring to the boil then simmer for 20 mins. Season to taste. Thickly slice the baguette and lightly toast both sides. Sprinkle cheese on top of the slices and grill until the cheese is bubbling. Put soup in bowls and float the baguette slices on top to serve.

The new year has got off to a great start in terms of crime reduction in the Sherwood area.

The Force has recorded an overall drop with 108 fewer crimes compared to this time last year – equivalent to a 30% reduction.

Burglaries are down by 37%, with 14 fewer crimes than this time last year, and robbery is down 92% (11 fewer crimes). Vehicle crime is down by 11% with three fewer crimes while criminal damage is down by 8% with four fewer crimes. Thefts are down 46% with 36 fewer crimes.

It comes after we introduced surgeries in and around the shops and businesses of Mansfield Road, Sherwood and Carrington. This high-visibility presence has been welcomed by shop owners, workers and visitors in the area and it has also given officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team a chance to meet members of the public and provide support and reassurance to the community.

The scheme has contributed to the overall reduction in crime and I am pleased to say that the scheme will continue through 2013.

Progress in building the new Sherwood Centre, where police and community protection officers will meet with the local authorities and the public, is going well. Situated on Mansfield Road, beneath the library, it is anticipated that it will be completed early this year. Once building work is finished, the website will be updated and our surgery

timetable published.Forcewide, our annual Drink Drive Campaign has resulted in more than 130 motorists arrested.

Throughout December and into the New Year, officers stopped motorists suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The legal drink drive limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, and motorists can still be over the limit the morning after a night out drinking. Alcohol affects people differently so to stay safe do not drink any alcohol at all before getting behind the wheel.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Drink Drive Campaign ran alongside the national Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) campaign and the Department for Transport’s THINK! Campaign, which were launched to highlight the devastating impact that driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs can have.

Finally, it’s the time of year when households are enjoying the latest gadgets received at Christmas or bought in the sales. Be diligent about making sure your homes and cars are secure at all times. Check doors and windows are locked and keep valuables out of sight.

My name is Hayley I’m 24 and I have Asperger’s Syndrome. Despite this I have gone on to study my MSc in Forensic Mental Health at Nottingham Trent University.One area in which I lack is self-confidence, so alongside other Trent students I have signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in August 2013 for Child Reach International. In order to take part in the trek I have to raise £2450 for the charity. Child Reach International uses some of the money raised to fund the trip but at least 50% goes directly into the charity.
