3 Flexi NG documentation

3.1 Access to documentationProduct documentation contains information on both software and hardware and can be divided into descriptive, procedural, and reference information. The Flexi NG product documentation is published in Nokia Siemens Networks Online Services (NOLS).

Nokia Siemens Networks Electronic Documentation (NED) uses standard web browsers to access the documentation in an open and standardised format.

• NED in NOLSNED is used for browsing Flexi NG documentation through NOLS.

• PDF filesPrintable Flexi NG documents are made available as PDF files in NED in NOLS.

3.2 Document identificationAll PDF documents are identified by a document number (DN) and issue.

An example of a document identifier is DN0819639 Issue 1-1, the number for Guide to Flexi NG Documentation:

• DN0819639 is the document number which is always the same regardless of the product’s release.

• 1-1 is the issue number, which is comprised of a major and a minor level. When there is a major release of the product, only the major level of the issue number increases in all documents. When there is a Change Delivery (CD) release of the product, only the minor level of the issue number increases if the content of the document has changed.

The documentation in NED is available on two separate pages: Table of Contents and PDF. The PDF page provides printable versions of the documentation.

• PlanThe ‘Plan’ category contains high-level guidelines for things to be considered and planned before the actual installation and commissioning can be done.

• InstallThe ‘Install’ category contains instructions for installing and removing the equip-ment.

• Commission and IntegrateThis category contains instructions for commissioning and integrating the equip-ment.

• Operate and MaintainThe ‘Operate and Maintain’ category contains information necessary for daily usage and operation of the product.

• TroubleshootThe ‘Troubleshoot’ category provides instructions for identifying, locating, clearing and recovering fault conditions that have raised an indication of abnormal behavior in the product.

• ReferenceReference documentation contains important technical information about the network and its systems. Alarm information is also included in this category.

• Legal, Safety and EnvironmentalLegal and safety statements contain possible third-party software licence terms and third party copyright notices.

Guide to Flexi NG Documentation How to give feedback on documentation

Id:0900d805808afd8e

5 How to give feedback on documentationThere are several ways in which information can be sent to Nokia Siemens Networks regarding documentation. This feedback can take the form of faults that have been found in the documentation itself, or suggestions on how to improve the document. This section describes each of these methods.

5.1 Problem reportingDocumentation-related problems can be reported either to Nokia Siemens Networks Customer Contact Centers or through the NOLS Help Desk. In the NOLS Help Desk, service customers are given direct access to the RESOLVE service request tool where they can create, follow up, and manage their company’s service requests online. Docu-mentation cases are processed according to the same principles as hardware and software cases.

Submit a problem report through the NOLS Help Desk (with the RESOLVE service request tool) or to your local Nokia Siemens Networks contact in cases where:

• Information is incorrect. • Information cannot be found, or is difficult to find. • Documents do not open or show correctly, links do not work. • Problems with downloading NED software, NED libraries, or PDFs. • Information is not detailed enough, is missing, or is inconsistent. • Information does not support the use of the product.

If possible, include the following details in your report:

• product and/or system name and release • document set title and build date • document title • document number (DN) • issue or edition

5.2 Giving feedbackIn cases where you would like to ask about documentation or suggest a development idea but not report your feedback as a fault, there are several channels available for giving this feedback.

NOLS feedbackA Feedback link is located in the right-hand frame Tools box of the NOLS Homepage (see Figure Feedback link in NOLS). Click on the link, fill in the feedback form, select service Product Information, and submit the form.
