Assuming you haven’t heard it before…. “If April Showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?…pilgrims!” Ha! Great way to start Nexus, right?

Want an even better way to start Nexus, and for that matter your Chamber engagement? Attend events, ask questions, meet people! I’m constantly struck by the rather obvious realization that our work here is about convening events and creating the context for engagement, but that we can’t actually tell someone to “Hey, do business with this member or that member.” Engagement is all about showing up at events and spreading the word that you are not only open for business, but that you are looking for new opportunities and willing to help others make connections. The more

you do this, the more we see a direct correlation between your investment in the Chamber and the business you get from it.

Last year we held over 120 events here at the Chamber. We guarantee you will find an event that you want to attend! Register, reach out and let us know you are coming, and let us help you meet your fellow Chamber members and spread the word about your business. Connect and be a connector, but regardless, be engaged! Your value only goes up the more folks know who you are, where you work, and what you do.

Wishing you a great spring, and a happy business month!

It is now not a question of if you should be in social media, it is a question of how I should be in social media.

At this session of #OutOfTheBoxLunch we’ll discuss how to get started in social media, why social media should be viewed as a component of your marketing strategy and ways to strategize, measure and listen for opportunities to leverage social media.

How long have you been an Ambassador? I have been an Ambassador for over 6 months!

What do you enjoy most about being a Chamber member? I really enjoy being an Ambassador and a SPACC member because of the connections and relationships I have formed and continue to foster.

What's one piece of advice you would offer to fellow members? If I could offer a piece of advice to a fellow Chamber member or new member it would be to jump in feet first and get involved in volunteering and/or serve on a committee. You will see me volunteer for as many opportunities as I can because it enables me to meet people and provides a platform to start conversation. I also like to give my time to this wonderful organization.

Company: GovDelivery

Year Founded: 2000

Location: St. Paul, MN; Washington, DC; Crawley, West Sussex, UK

Website: www.govdelivery.com

What types of products or services do you offer? Our technology platform helps public sector organizations, from small cities to the largest national agencies, communicate with the public. We started out sending snow emergency alerts for the City of St. Paul, Minn. and today we are the leading government communications company in the world serving the IRS, Department of Defense, U.K. Parliament, and hundreds of cities, counties, and state agencies. We have more than 1,000 government clients that use us to reach more than 65 million people.

What do you want your business to be best known for? We want to be known for how we help improve the country by enabling government organizations of all sizes to connect with more people and get those people to take important actions, using industry-leading technologies and approaches. For example, our government clients use our platform to

motivate people to sign up their kids for tee-ball at the local park, move a car during a snow emergency, buy a fishing license, open a business, and get a flu shot.

Tell us about your recent expansion. We have grown every year since we opened in 2000, but our growth has been rapidly accelerating recently as government agencies seek to use our technology as a way to streamline and improve how they serve the public. We recently expanded both our St. Paul and Washington, D.C. office spaces while adding significantly more staff across the organization. We were also highlighted in FORTUNE magazine by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) as one of the 50 fastest growing companies in an inner city.

What’s a fact about your business most people don’t know? How about two facts… We own the largest social and knowledge network for people working in government, called GovLoop, which has been called the “Facebook for government.” And we do about 10% of our business in Europe.
