If you own a business, this is a great opportunity for you to publicize your business and support the Paxtonia PTA. Even if you don’t own a business you can support the raffle by donating a gift card in any amount to your favorite store or res- taurant. Donations can be brought to the school office. Please mark “May Fair Raffle Donation” on the envelope and include your name so we know whom to thank! If you have any questions about making a donation, please contact Kathy Herring at [email protected] or 540-7143. Equally important to me, I’m also confident that we’ll continue to prove our “social worth” through our charitable events and by treating each other the way we would want to be treated. *Educational Trips For those who like to plan ahead, the PSSA testing dates for grades 3, 4, & 5 are as follows: -PSSA READING & MATH for Grades 3, 4 & 5 March 12 – 16 Please note on page 32 of the CD Handbook/Calendar that no educa- tional trips for students will be ap- proved during PSSA testing dates. *Birthday Party Etiquette Please do not have your child distribute birthday party invitations at school Next PTA Meeting March 5th @ 7PM…Free Child Care Provided Editor: Yvette Fleming unless every member of the class is invited. Returns Next Issue...

Paxtonia Elementary has invited the Mobile Dentists/Smile Programs to the school on Tuesday, April 3rd to promote oral health and hygiene. The mobile Dentists/Smile Programs will provide on-site preventative dental care to students such as dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and check up x-rays. These services will be provided to those students that returned completed permission forms that were sent home in February. No child is ever turned away by the Mobile Dentists/Smile Programs because of financial need.

For more information call or visit the website.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is soon approaching!!! It will be Monday thru Friday, May 7 – May 11. We are looking forward to showing our staff how much they are appreciated!

We will be serving hot and cold meals all week long. We ask that you please send in 1 or more of your favor-ite dishes and we organize the rest…it’s that simple! If it’s not pos-sible for you to do so, there are other ways for you to donate to show your appreciation. Please keep an eye out for a flyer with ideas on how to help. If you have already signed up for this event, a reminder will be sent home soon. If you’re interested in helping in any way, please call Emily Peterson @ 545-3880 or Lori Horst @540-1905.

The schedule for the week is as follows: Monday: Continental Breakfast/Snacks Tuesday: Soup & Salad Wednesday: Hot Lunch Thursday: Subs & Pizza Friday: Appetizers & Desserts

March 5, 2007 YoJo Presents

Choose To Read 9:15-9:55 (K-2) YoJo initially has a bad attitude about reading. The show's host is determined to change this negative position, so he puts YoJo in various situations where choosing not to read leads to several comical mishaps. Although YoJo learns the hard way about the importance of reading, the host eventually cheers him up by demonstrating that reading can also be lots of fun. The show ends by reading aloud a short story from "The Prince and the Princess", in which YoJo acts out the part of the prince, and an audience member plays the role of the princess. The enjoyment of the experi-ence leaves YoJo with an enthusiastic spirit to read, and he's last seen running off to the library. Ace Your PSSA 10:10-11:00 (3-5)

This show covers very specific test-taking strategies and has been co-developed directly with educators who know these tests thoroughly. Some of the important points that an “Ace Your Test” show emphasizes include:

• Important preparations before the test.

• Paying close attention to all instruc-tions, questions, and answer choices.

• Previewing test sections and budg-eting test time wisely.

• The proper way to fill out answers on answer sheets.

• Using the process of elimination to make a better educated guess at tough multiple-choice questions.

• Writing constructed responses clearly and neatly.

• Supporting ‘open-ended’ construc-tive responses with evidence and detail.

• Most importantly: Confidence and a great attitude!

The following are the programs that Paxtonia PTA is currently sponsoring, and each has their own appropriate collec-tion box located in the front lobby of the school. Please place the items in a plastic sealed bag before placing them in the collec-tion boxes. • Used Ink Cartridges Recy-

Giant Shoppers We need more Giant Bonus-

Card Designations!

Out of approximately 600 students, we only have 262 BonusCards registered and designated for Paxtonia Elemen-tary as of February 1. Let’s get that number up and increase our reward dollars! To date, registered Bonus-Cards have earned our school $2,509.73 from October 2006 through January 2007. Ask friends, neighbors, grandparents, aunts, un-cles, coworkers; anyone you know that would be interested in designating Paxtonia Elementary on their Giant BonusCard. You can register online at www.GiantAPlus.com and enter school ID# 01059, pick up a Designa-tion Form at your local Giant Cus-tomer Service Counter, or fill out forms that will be going home with students soon. The more cards we have registered for Paxtonia the more money our school earns for much needed educational tools. Remember, if you have students at other schools you can designate them too! Thank you so much for your support.
