At the Newspring Art studio, we mentor art students, educating them about career opportunities. The studio is open all year to students in the Spring

Branch Independent School District. Each spring Newspring Art studio hosts a live auction of student

art. Since its inception, the art auction has soldover $60,000 of student art to date.

Newspring Visual Art Students need materials for their Drawing, Metalsmithing, Painting, and Watercolor

classes. Newspring is seeking sponsors to provide these

materials. A $250 donation will sponsor a student for an entire semester. A $300 donation will

sponsor a student for the summer.

With your donation, you will receive the satisfaction of knowing that a student is receiving a quality visual arts education and being mentored in a safe, Christian

environment.

You will also receive updates about the student you have sponsored and an opportunity to view that

student’s work.

I am in fourth grade at Buffalo Creek Elementary. My dad cannot work. My mom cleans houses. Since high school my sister works in a restaurant to help the family. She took me to the art studio. I want to learn how to do something. I take drawing, painting, jewelry and watercolors.

I want to learn art because it is fun and beautiful. My favorite artists are Van Gogh and Rembrandt. The studio has taught me to draw and paint. My favorite classes are watercolors, jewelry and painting. I can make many things with jewelry. I like giving surprise gifts to people.

The lessons make me believe that I can draw and paint. I have sold a bird on canvas. My goal is to be better in drawing, painting and jewelry and become a kindergarten teacher. I want to teach art and have fun. A sponsor would give me more options to learn and help me do more work and get a better life.

One of my friends told me about Newspring. Here I have new friends. I take drawing, painting, jewelry and watercolors. In jewelry I made earrings for my

mom and grandmother. They wear them a lot of times. I have learned about painting. The teacher taught us how to mix colors to make different colors. One of my favorite artists is Mary Cassatt. Her parents took her to museums. I think her paintings are very creative. I also like Picasso. I want

to be a famous artist when I grow up. My dad bought some acrylics at Wal Mart and I am practicing painting a lot at home to get famous. My goals are to make art to sell and for pleasure. I also want to be a singer. My sponsor will help me a lot by paying for my lessons. And I will have more art stuff (supplies) at Newspring.

I am in second grade at Buffalo Creek Elementary. I have a baby brother. My mother works for the horse race track, and my father is in the military. I was passing by and I saw Newspring. I want to learn art because it’s a nice feeling and it looks good. I take drawing, painting, jewelry and watercolors. My favorite is watercolors because the colors are free; they go everywhere. The most interesting

lesson I have learned so far is jewelry making. I have made pretty jewelry for my mom and grandmother. The teachers here always teach us things that we don’t know yet, and that helps us with our art. They teach us to never give up until you are done and it looks good. When I grow up I want to be a teacher because I like being

with children. I want to teach second or third grade because they are not too young or too old and they are responsible. So they can take care and keep up with their stuff. A sponsor will help me reach my goals to get better at everything by paying for classes and saying ‘great job.’ ”

My mommy has five children.

We are all home schooled. I

am in sixth grade and want to be an

artist when I grow up. My mommy

and another student got me to

Newspring. I really have fun here.

I have made new friends and have

great teachers. I take painting and

jewelry. All the famous artists

inspire me. So far, the Matisse

painting lesson is my favorite. I

just really like his style. My goals

are to create more art and jewelry.

It is fun and I really enjoy making

the things in my head. A sponsor

I am in third grade at Spring Branch Elementary. There are four children in my family. My parents are singers in restaurants. They told me about Newspring and taught me techniques in art. I want to be a painter (artist) because I enjoy painting. My favorite artists are Matisse and Picasso. I take

drawing, painting, watercolors and jewelry. Newspring is helping me learn more about art, especially the drawing and painting. I want to get better at it. I hope to sell my artwork and get famous as an artist one day. My favorite class so far is drawing. It shows me new techniques to draw. I am learning to draw the parts of the body and how to do a self portrait. I am excited to go with Newspring to the art museum. A sponsor will help me reach my goals by paying for my classes and telling me I am doing my best. Then I can stay in Newspring studying art.

Academy of International Studies.

I am one of four children in my

family. Currently I am taking

metalsmithing. When I can, I

volunteer with other classes at

Newspring. I want to learn art

because I want to express myself

more professionally and in different

ways. I am inspired by Cassatt,

O’Keefe and Rembrandt. One of

the most interesting lessons I have

learned is that art is more

challenging than I thought and I

like the challenges. Newspring has

opened new doors for me. It

always gives me a warm welcome

and encouragement to go further in

my life. My goals are to develop

my skills in depth and hopefully

earn $500 from my art in 2013. A

sponsor will provide me with

supplies for my artistic needs, so I

can create artwork that people will

connect with, buy and be satisfied,

so I can reach my goals.

Elementary. There are three

children in my family. My

brother found Newspring and my

mother brought me here with my

little sister. I come every day and

take all the classes --drawing,

painting, jewelry and watercolors.

I want to learn art to get better in

art. So far, I have sold one piece of

my art. I am inspired by Van Gogh.

One of the most interesting lessons

that I have learned so far is drawing

my self portrait. I learned how to

draw all the parts separately – eye,

mouth, nose, ear and all the details.

When I grow up I want to be an

assistant or a nurse for a dentist. I

love to see beautiful smile. A

learn art because I like to be

creative and I want to earn a

scholarship to Columbia

University. My mom found

Newspring when she was driving

by and saw it. I take drawing and

painting. My favorite artist is

Leonardo de Vinci. Newspring has

helped me with drawing faces: I

love it. The most interesting

lessons I have learned in class so

far was how to build a bird house.

It was really fun to make a

geometry pattern and add recycle

pieces for decoration. My goal is

to be an architect and be very

famous and very important. I want

to be an architect because you earn

money and you can be creative, and

make beautiful place for people. A

sponsor will help me learn art so I

will get a scholarship and start

preparing to be an Architect.
