‘Fighting the blaze was a challenge’

Two people died and two others injured as a fire teared through two Birmingham proper-ties.The two bodies were so badly burned that the only thing that could be identified was their Gen-der, theire identification remains unkown. Up to 40 fire fighters were called to combat the blaze which started at about 4am, the flames were so out of order that they forced the roofs to cave in.

Happy kids in Highgate: £175, 000 Play area

Youngsters in Highgate are in full swing for the summer term with the new £175,000 playground area now officialy opened. Local volunteers and council workers have been working endlessly to raise money to build a play area, this has been done through the ‘big city plan’ which is a project that aims to make the city a ‘better’ place, this has been proved very succesfull.

The special guests at the opening were Deputy Lord Mayor and local councillor Chauhdry Rashid, He said: “I am delighted to see this won-derful playground opened. There are many young fami-lies nearby.“It is very much needed in this area and the local chil-dren deserve it.“It makes the park a brighter place to be. I am grateful that

the funding was made avail-able.” The Local volunteers and council workers feel that the play area has demonstrated how it can make a ‘Highgate a better place for children’ and they aim to work with the local community and families across highgate to consider new ideas from parks and play areas to youth clubs and outdoor events.

A Fire at a bordered care home that killed two men has thought to be started accidentally. Emergency crews were called in early Tuesday to bat-tle out the uncontrollable blaze that forced the roof to cave in. The two bodies found at the scene of the blaze were thought to be male, However they were so badly burned that it was almost impossible to identify them. Detective Chief Inspector Sean Russell, of West Mid-lands Police, said officers were still keeping an open mind about the cause of the fire.But the officer added: “There is nothing to suggest that the fire is arson or that the deaths are suspicious.”

A 23-year-old man was rescued the burning building and rushed to hospital for minor burns. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and he remains in a stable condition.A second man, aged 48, escaped the fire and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He has been discharged. One Witness who works nearby but wishes to be re-mained annonymous says that the bordered care home was used for shelter by immigrants who are thought to be polish, in their thirties and forties. Police sealed off the surroundings of the road near Highgate Middleway as fire investigators worked at the scene.

The bordered care home is now under heavy surveil-lance, securty officers are being employed to watch the surrounding area for anything suspicious.Chief Inspector Sean Russell, from Birmingham Cen-tral police station, said: “This was an incredibly severe fire which sadly claimed two victims. At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to the cause.”Officers are also investigating a fire at a Aston home which a family of four were evacuated.The front door of a house in Whitehead Road was found alight at around 4.15am yesterday. No one was injured.
