Newspaper Advertisement Research Many newspapers such as the Shropshire Star use advertisements in their publications. Examples follow: The examples above are from my newspaper second page analysis from a regional newspaper known as the Shropshire Star, an urban paper called Express &Star and a national paper called The Sun. The far left example (Shropshire Star) has many advertisements (Pugs) on the left side of the page which are about gardening equipment and furniture and decorations for your home. More advertisements are there but for the same sort of products and services. The regional paper is mostly countryside so the adverts are based upon that which is gardening which would more likely to appeal to the readers of the media text. The readers here would be inactive readers according to Stuart Hall because the reader would come across this advertisement and act upon it rather than seeking out the advertisement. So the advertisement is aimed precisely at the reader through promoting products more relevant to the county than other products such as sun tan lotion. This product is more likely to be advertised on television and other media texts than a newspaper. The advertisements are for businesses as well not just a product which leads me to the conclusion that the advert will be from an organisation to promote an opportunity or service rather than an individual product. My conclusion of the research is further supported with the Express and Star second page (Middle) as the image of the magazines and sports guides with TV guides are not a single product. The magazines are promoting many businesses and their services for the reader that would probably be included in the newspaper. There is no individual product being advertised on the page which reinforces my conclusion. The Sun (Right) uses no

Many newspapers such as the Shropshire Star use advertisements in their publications. Examples follow:

The examples above are from my newspaper second page analysis from a regional newspaper known as the Shropshire Star, an urban paper called Express &Star and a national paper called The Sun. The Sun (Right) uses no advertisements on the front or second page of their publication which leads me to believe that because they are a national paper, there would be no small business able to promote their business on such a large scale or a national/international business or product that would need advertising. A conglomerate organisation would not need a national newspaper to advertise their services or product because the consumer of the text would most likely of heard them and know of their services rendering the advertisement useless.

In conclusion, adverts do not appear on national papers and are limited on urban papers whilst the regional newspaper, however, uses many adverts on the second page about local business or opportunities.
