Dear Parents and carers, !Welcome to our February newsletter which provides you with news about what is happening at the HSV and your school location. !This week we have taken part in in the Voorleesdagen, which promote the importance of reading aloud with children. We bought many of the top Illustrated books in both Dutch and English. !Mr. Hans van der Vlucht our Interim Executive Director joined the HSV at the start of term.

Beste ouders, verzorgers, !Hierbij ontvangt u de nieuwsbrief van februari. !Deze weken staan in het teken van de nationale voorleesdagen. Hiermee willen we het belang van voorlezen aangeven. Uiteraard zijn er weer nieuwe leesboeken besteld zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels. !Interim bestuurder Hans van der Vlugt is zijn werkzaamheden inmiddels begonnen en heeft onze locaties allemaal bezocht. !!!

Message from the Charity Committee This year we collected 231 shoeboxes in all and € 1068 towards postage costs. This is a wonderful amount and we thank you in your ongoing support for this very worthy cause.

VLK Week During the week of 6th February, you will have the chance to visit Gym, Music, Handicraft and Dutch specialist lessons. We hope to see as many of you visiting as possible and that you enjoy seeing your children developing their physical and creative education with our specialist team.

Feel at Home in the Hague Fair Please come visit our stand at the ex-pat fair feel at Home in The Hague. The event takes place on Sunday February 5th and the good news is that admission to the fair is free! Click here to register for free tickets (this is advised to avoid queues).

During the fair, there will also be informative discussion panels taking place inside the ‘Raadzaal’ room. This year, our very own international department director, Lorraine Dean, will be joining the panel from 12:15 until 13:10 on the Panel of International Schools. The below education programme lists all of the events taking place throughout the day in the ‘Raadzaal’ room:

!From the MR

On Monday 30th January the MR will be welcoming Cyrille Vermaat as the new teacher representative for the VNS location. As there are now a number of new members in the MR, a special MR course for new and existing members will be arranged for the near future.

!!Vakleerkrachtenbezoekweek De week van 06 februari is het weer mogelijk om de lessen van onze vakleerkrachten te bezoeken. Hiervoor heeft u al een uitnodiging ontvangen. We hopen u hiermee van dienst te zijn zodat u ook de ontwikkeling van uw kind op die terreinen kunt zien. !Feel at Home in the Hague Fair Voor de geïnteresseerden is er ook dit jaar deze expat bijeenkomst. Wilt u dit bezoeken, leest u dan de informatie hierboven. !MR voor de Nieuwsbrief Op maandag 30 januari a.s. wordt Cyrille Vermaat welkom geheten tijdens de MR vergadering. Cyrille vertegenwoordigt de leerkrachten van de VNS locatie in de MR. Omdat er de laatste tijd meerdere nieuwe MR leden zijn toegetreden, wordt er een nieuwe MR cursus voor zowel nieuwe als oude leden georganiseerd. Deze cursus zal binnen kort plaats vinden. !Simon Murray Workshop Deze Engelse auteur en illustrator komt ons bezoeken. Hij geeft zijn workshop aanstaande dinsdag. Bij de start van de dag zal hij zijn presentatie geven gericht op het vertellen en illustreren. Gedurende de workshop worden de kinderen op verschillende manier betrokken bij het verhaal van Icky Doo Dah, een van zijn boeken.

Simon Murray Workshop

English author and illustrator of children’s books, Simon Murray, will visit each location during the week 6th February. He will workshop at NSL on Tuesday 7th, KSS on Wednesday 8th and VNS on Thursday 9th.

Simon with begin the day with an initial presentation which involves storytelling and live-drawing. Then during the workshops, the children will be creating their own illustration of the Icky Doo Dah character (a character from one of Simon’s books) engaged in several of their favourite activities at once. The children will also be illustrating an imaginative frame in which their character will be placed. A signed copy of his book will be available to purchase.

News from Nassaualaan

Parent Consultations Parent Consultation meetings will take place on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th March. You will receive the invitation in due course. !Valentine Disco On Friday 10th February at school from 5 to 7 the OAC (Parent Activity Committe) has organised a Valentine Disco for classes ID5 and ID6, NA6, NA7 and nA8. The theme is “ A splash of Red” . We look forward to a great event. !Professional Development A number of colleagues visited the NOT Beurs in Utrecht. Some went to BETT the big ICT Exhibition in London. Three colleagues have attended the Power of Reading Course in London in the UK. All colleagues have returned with great ideas to implement in our school in line with the school plan. Three members of Staff are going to a day with Jo Boaler, a UK Professor of Mathematics in Stanford who has influenced our Mathematics practice at HSV. ! Mother Tongue Lunches The first Language Lunch of 2017 will take place on Thursday February the 16th during lunch break. This time it will be organized for Spanish speaking pupils of all ages. The Portuguese Mother Tongue lunch will take place on Friday 17th February. !News from 2HSV 2HSV would like to host another auction dinner this year on Friday May 19th to raise funds for our school. Nassaulaannieuws

Rapportgesprekken De rapportgesprekken vinden plaats op dinsdag 14 en donderdag 16 maart. U ontvangt van de leerkracht een uitnodiging. Er zijn geen gesprekken voor groep 8, deze kinderen zijn recent besproken ivm het traject : Van basisschool naar Voortgezet onderwijs. !Valentijnsdisco Op vrijdag 10 februari is er de Valentijnsdisco voor de groepen NA6-7-8 en ID 5-6. De aanvang is 17.00 en het eind is 19.00. het thema is : A splash of Red”. De avond wordt georganiseerd door de OAC. !Professional Development Een aantal collega’s heft in Utrecht de nationale Onderwijstentoonstelling bezocht. Ook is een aantal naar de BETT geweest. Dit is een grote ICT beurs in Londen. Anderen hebben een bijeenkomst over “the Power of reading” bijgewoond. Iedereen kwam terug met nieuwe frisse ideeën om ons onderwijs nog beter te maken. !Mother Tongue Lunches Op donderdag 16 februari wordt er een speciale lunch georganiseerd voor alle kinderen die Spaans spreken. On Tuesday ID5 had a creative and fun time at the Nederlandse dance theatre. They explored different dance moves to express their ideas and the music.

Then in groups they worked together to choreograph and perform a routine; the dab was very popular! ID5 were good ambassadors for Nassaulaan.
