Commanding Officers Comments
Greetings,
I hope that all the families
and friends had an enjoyable 4
th
of July holiday. As we move
through the summer you’re
Marines and Sailors have
successfully concluded a
battalion level field exercise
and are preparing for the
capstone pre deployment
exercise during the month of
July at the Marine Corps Air
Ground Combat Center in Twenty
nine Palms, CA. Your loved ones
have put forth a significant
amount of hard work and
dedication, in preparing forthe upcoming deployment whether
it’s in intermediate level
supply and maintenance,
surgical, communication and
operations or tactical ground
distribution and security. This
final exercise will test the
integration of all those
functions and ensure we are
able to effectively operate
once we arrive in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, our Marines and
Sailors who will remain ingarrison are working equally as
hard to ensure 2d Supply
Battalion continues to
provide responsive support
to II MEF units. I hope you
all enjoy the remainder of
your summer and thank you
for your support.Semper Fi,

“I don’t need one becauseI am married, and myspouse will take care of the children during mydeployment.” Thatresponse sounds good, but is not sufficient whenplanning for theunforeseen. You mayhave peace of mindknowing that out-of-townrelatives will fill the gap,
but relatives need time totravel, and someone willneed to care for thechildren until their arrival.I posed this question tomy wife as a part of our deployment planning. Werealized that there was agap in our plan because
Chaplains Corner
my in-laws areapproximately 20 hoursfrom where we live, andthey need that travel timein order to safely gethere. I picked up aFamily Care Plan fromour FRO (he does notbite), and filled in theforms. We havewonderful neighborsdown the street who
have agreed to providecare for our children, tofill the gap, should Sandiend up being hospitalizedduring deployment, untilin-laws arrive. All of usdrove to our local NavyFederal Credit Union, and signed the
documents in front of anotary; there was nocost for notarizing thedocuments. I thenturned in a copy to our FRO.Look, any parent wholoves his/her children willensure that a plan is inplace. Your children arethe most preciousmembers of your family,
and you can’t replacethem. There is nothinglike having peace of mind in knowing thatyour children arereceiving the best carepossible by people wholove them. That is worthmore than money in thebank or winning thelottery.

When a military family experiences a crisis, the American Red
Cross is there to assist by providing emergency communicationstwenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. Red Cross emergency
communications services keep military personnel in touch with
their families. No matter where a military member and their
family are stationed, the Red Cross will deliver their notifications in times of crisis. Even if the service member
receives notification of an emergency through an e-mail or a
phone call, Red Cross-verified information assists commanding
officers in making a decision regarding emergency leave.Without this verification, the service member may not be able to
come home during a family emergency.
