Many of you already know who I am and that I handle the replies to the monthly GRW agency reports.I am the manager of the Agency Affairs department of GRW. We went from the long template for the monthly report down to three questions to make things smoother for you in answering the

Many of the material is information many of you long time GRW agencies are aware of already, although the new GRW agencies may be reading about them for the first time. The data can be useful to new and long time GRW agencies if they utilize the information given. This newsletter is one of the new things I have implemented for your benefit and enjoyment. I do appreciate Mr. Jim Lawrence for all the hard work he did while I was gone on a two year medical leave. It took me a while to get back in the “groove” of things. I find myself working again 7 days a week with no time off for holidays, but I have done that from day one starting almost 50 years ago, so I am use to that. Lastly I want to say, when you wake up each morning to start a new day, I would like to you to see is there something different you can do to make your GRW agency successful. Board. They are a waste of time with hundreds or

thousands already working on them. Please

concentrate in your own country. You can use

TRADE WITH PAKISTAN It is a great honor for the GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan for getting its article “Trade with Pakistan” recognized and found worthy enough to get a place in the GRW NEWSLETTER, first publication of which is expected to be released in early August 2014. The writer’s name is Tanveer Ansari (Mr), CEO of Z. H. Ansari & Co. Karachi / Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which is a GRW/G11 Exclusive Representation Pakistan. I am thankful to our President Mr. Ray Porter and our CEO Mr. Joe. L. Bradley, who provided to me an excellent opportunity to share my views directly with my colleagues (GRW agencies worldwide) on the subject of “Trade with Pakistan” from the ‘GRW Platform’. BASIC FACTS OF PAKISTAN

Pakistan is one of the important countries in the sub-continent. China, India, Iran and Afghanistan are neighboring countries.

Pakistan’s population is over 180-million people. Pakistan enjoys 4-seasons.

Islamabad is a capital of Pakistan, while Karachi is a port city and is considered Pakistan business Hub. Lahore and Faisalabad in Punjab province, are other major business cities, while minerals mines are situated in the Balochistan and Khyber Phaltoon Khwa Provinces. Karachi is a mega city with around 20-million people.

At present there are two-operational sea ports, both are in Karachi (Sindh Province), while 3rd mega sea port at Gwadar (Balochistan Province) is under construction.

Pakistan basically is an agricultural country, but major development is done in industrial sector.

Pakistan is already known in international business arena, because of its agricultural products.

Pakistan is one of the largest exporters of Cotton, Yarn, Cotton products, Rice, Leather and leather products, minerals ores, seafood, live-stock, fresh meat, whole chicken and its products, and hundreds of other products (kindly visit GRW website).

ONLY ONE OBJECTIVE OF THE ARTICLE To bring awareness among the GRW Agencies worldwide, about great potential for the business opportunities that Pakistan can offer to business community operating in the current ‘Global Village’, particularly to small and medium-size companies including companies operating from African region, which are seeking small parcels of commodities. GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan would also like to facilitate GRW Agencies worldwide to get at least one initial

transaction concluded within the current year 2014. GRW Agencies may kindly be rest assured GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan would always try its best to arrange competitive rates that would be in line with the prices, prevailing in Pakistan and International markets at that particular time, plus Manufacturers from Pakistan would also be happy to accept initial orders, even if the initial order is only one 20-ft container load. AVAILABILITY OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE GRW Finance is one of the most important factors in trade. Based on my experience, I can say ‘Finance’ is the basic requirement for concluding any commercial transaction. It would be a waste of time, if before going in the international market, the required funds is not arranged well in advance. In order to facilitate buyers/ sellers, particularly in Africa Continent, GRW has been offering financial assistance at reasonable cost and also on easy terms (from 90-days to 180-days) through its couples of Associates (Financial based companies) operating in international financial arena. GRW Agencies should study financial products (available from GRW Platform) and should use this facility while offering commodities to their clients. WRITER’S EXPERIENCE WITH PAKISTAN BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND OVERSEAS INTERNATIONAL GROUPS Since the writer had numbers of opportunities to negotiate franchises agreements, distributorships contracts, joint-venture agreements, etc. with International groups including multinationals (USA, South Korea, China, Arabian Gulf, UK, Turkey, Kenya, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, all negotiations were done on behalf of different Pakistan Groups and companies, therefore I hold fairly good idea about the thinking of international based companies plus thinking of Pakistan business community and their working style. The write-up that you are going to read, shall be based on my 50-years experience working with Pakistan business community and also with International corporate sector. PAKISTAN BUSINESS COMMUNITY – WORKING STYLE

Pakistan businessmen generally prefer to first agree on commodity, quantity, packing mode, delivery period, inspection terms, payment terms and of course rate(s), and once the above basic terms agreed and confirmed via email or even on phone, only then paper-work starts. Draft of contract, LC terms, are normally readily available with sellers, which is normally dispatch to buyers duly filled-in and signed. Whereas international business community first normally would prefer to complete paper work in shape of LOI and other similar documents.

RECOMMENDATION FROM GRW/G11 REPRESENTATION PAKISTAN

Buyers may take following steps before floating an inquiry for Pakistan origin goods:

i) First, you must arrange enough funds to cover total cost of the goods, which you are going to buy. Funds either from your own resources or from your Bank(s). If the import is being financed by the Bank, then buyer must have written confirmation from the Bank for the availability of the total funds to be required for getting the goods from Pakistan until arrived at buyer’s warehouse, and ready for sale. Trust me, if this factor is not fully tight and sealed then time and energy of all people involved in the transaction shall be totally wasted. GRW/G11 shall be pleased to assist you, if you have arrangements with your Bank to establish deferred payment

LC (90 days to 180 days) in favor of sellers in Pakistan, then buyers could utilize LC Discount facility offered from GRW/G11 Main. This is also one of the options, which buyers needing financial assistance, could opt. GRW/G11 Main would be pleased to explain how to get the financial facility through GRW/G11 Main.

ii) Second step, buyers should decide what commodity or product is going to be ordered from Pakistan and then buyers has to visit GRW website for identifying the commodity(s) from different pages having information on Pakistan origin goods, available on the GRW website. If the required commodity is not available on the GRW website, then GRW agency should get maximum information on the commodity from the potential buyers and may dispatch the information to GRW/G11 Main. I can assure you information on the commodity (required by the potential buyers) shall be provided within maximum 72-hours. Buyers may float their inquiry for getting offer, based on the information received from Pakistan.

iii) Third step, once the commodity is selected, then buyers should also finalize details relating to the selected commodity or product, such as:

a) Commodity: Quality / Grade (if there are more than one quality / grade), Specifications.

b) Packing Mode: If there more than one packing mode available). c) Quantity: Exact required quantity under single order. d) Delivery: Preferable delivery period required. e) Destination: Name of port of discharge. f) Payment terms: If sellers standard payment terms, not found workable at buyers end. g) Other terms: Buyers would find other terms including payment terms, SGS inspection

at Loading port in Pakistan, indicative FAS Pakistan rates, etc. on the

Pakistan pages available on the GRW Website.

h) Freight idea: Buyers would find indicative freights from Pakistan port to Discharge port,

on the freight page available on the GRW Website. i) Target price: Buyers should give a Target Price, which should be in line with the

indicative FAS Pakistan prices already given on the GRW website, if there is a sizable

difference between the target price and the indicative price, then buyers may try

other origins. Target price based on C&F Port of discharge, should also be

given after getting the freight, prevailing at that particular time, from Shipping Agents operating in buyers territory or they may consult freight list available on the GRW website.

iv) Fourth step, now buyers are in a position to float their inquiry for Pakistan origin goods, buyers may kindly dispatch their inquiries directly to GRW – a G11 Corporation, USA/UK.

E-mail address ([email protected]). Kindly ensure your inquiry has to contain following basic information:

1. Information as specified under clause iv)- a to e above. 2. Confirmation in respect of sufficient funds have arranged to cover total CIF cost of the

cargo, if the funds is arranged from the Bank, then a scanned copy of Bank’s confirmation may be attached with the inquiry.

3. Acceptance from the potential buyers in respect of payment terms and other terms as mentioned on the GRW website on the pages of various commodities available from Pakistan.

4. Target price (should be based on the clause i) above. 5. Buyers Banks name and complete address with swift code (Buyers Bank from where LC

is expected to be established in favor of Pakistan Sellers).

v) Fifth step, which is very important and each agency has to do its home-work, before passing the inquiry (received from the buyers) to GRW/G11 Main. And the inquiry should only be forwarded to GRW/G11 Main when the agency is fully satisfied about the creditability of the potential client/buyer. Each Agency will have to do little Home-work on their potential buyers/clients, such as:

I) Financial worth (from the Bank); II) Business track-record; III) Business volume of last 12-months; IV) Market reputation; V) Business size (small – medium – big – large); VI) Commodities origins (currently handling);

vi) Buyers inquiry, received through GRW/G11 Agencies, would immediately be forwarded

from GRW/G11 Main to GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan for necessary action at Pakistan’s end.

vii) GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan, would immediately start working on the inquiry, if it is Sunday or Holiday, I normally try to get in touch with the concerned person(s) on phone and get necessary information and offer from them, otherwise response is surely sent next working day to GRW/G11 Main for onward submission to the buyers.

viii) Pakistan Sellers always expect some sort of response from the buyers next day or maximum within 48-hours. It is therefore highly recommended to give a ‘FEED-BACK” within shortest possible time, regardless whether sellers price is found on higher side or some terms are not found workable at buyers end, or even if the offer is under consideration with the buyers. Buyers can always make a firm bid, if price is not found workable at buyers end. I will try my best to get the firm bid confirmed from the sellers, if the bid is found in line with prices prevailing in international market at that particular time.

ix) Pakistan sellers get offended when they do not get respect against their offer, in fact they need detailed feed-back from the buyers, so that they may improve those sectors where sellers are little weak, and to get ready to compete in future in a more healthy way with competitors offering other origins.

IMPORT INTO PAKISTAN Pakistan has been importing thousands of items from overseas. GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan would be pleased to market your country’s products in Pakistan. We can secure orders for your products from different Pakistan importers, but for that GRW – a G11 Corporation must hold an exclusive selling rights directly from manufacturers for marketing that particular product or products in Pakistan. List of exportable items may be dispatched to the GRW/G11 Main, which would be forwarded to me here in Pakistan for further action. SUGGESTIONS FROM GRW AGENCIES

The writer, on behalf of GRW/G11 Representation Pakistan, shall appreciate to receive valuable suggestions from all GRW/G11 Agencies worldwide, which could help us to improve trade volume between Pakistan and other overseas countries through courtesy of GRW/G11 Agencies worldwide.
