BAIRNSDALE & DISTRICT ARTS SOCIETY NEWSLETTER Gael Rand Editor February 2019 February has been a busy month at the Arts Centre with Classes starting in Drawing, Painting, Pastel, Coloured Pencil, and Junior & Teen Art with good attendances in all sessions. Plus our first weekend Workshop for the year. Max Wilks Pastel Workshop 16/17 February A ‘full house’ enjoyed this pastel landscape workshop with a highly regarded tutor in Max Wilks. Max demonstrated his great skills as a pastel artist completing several paintings during the 2 days. Max taught his style of ‘layering’ the pastels using strong colours on a black surface to great effect. This method was new to most, however some really good results emerged from the participants. ‘GLORIOUS GIPPSLAND’ EASTER ART SHOWThe ‘Glorious Gippsland’ Sub-Committee is now meeting fortnightly to keep on top of all that needs doing to present the Exhibition. At the last meeting Trish Wagstaff reported good results in our Sponsorship Drive with many local businesses & some individuals offering to sponsor a prize for the upcoming Exhibition at Easter. It’s not an easy task asking for sponsorship and we greatly appreciate the work of our Committee members and the generosity of our local sponsors.

Special Prize for an ‘Emerging Artist’ - $500 Framing Voucher

Sponsored by Focus Photography & Framing, this is an additional prize for the show, aimed at encouraging an ‘up and coming’ Artist.

Our main aim now is to promote entries into the Exhibition, so please enter your artworks and ‘spread the word’ to other Artists you know to enter also. It’s East Gippsland’s biggest Art Show with a total prize pool of $6400. It will be widely promoted to attract local people and the many tourists in the area at Easter.Entry forms are online at: www.gloriousgippsland.org.au OR phone 0438 209771

PLEASE BE ASSURED THE SUBJECT OF YOUR PAINTING DOES NOT NEED TO BE OF ‘GIPPSLAND’, IT CAN BE ANY
