Well-done to Dishan, Pucca, Vivian, Thao My (Year 3), and Duy Anh and Nina (Year 4).

From Head Teacher - Ms. Sue Hill

Dear Parents,

All children were reminded in assembly about all the exciting events for our ‘We Love Books!’ celebrations next week. Don’t forget, Monday is our TX Book Character Parade. All children are encouraged to dress as a book character and should come to school dressed in their costumes ready for the parades which start at 8:15am (EYFS) and 8:30am (Years 1 to 6). Parents are most welcome to join us and should take the opportunity to lis-ten to our visiting author from the UK, Adam Bushnell. He will lead a coffee morning at 8am on the importance of reading. Please see below for important events and times:

8am – 8:30am: Parent Coffee Morning in the Multi-Purpose Room. Adam Bushnell: ‘The Importance of Reading’ 8:15am: EYFS Costume Parade in the Foyer 8:30am: Costume Parade in the Sports Hall (Year 1 to 6) Wednesday and Thursday: Book Fair in the library

Adam Bushnell will be holding workshops with different classes on Monday and Tuesday to share with us all his own love of books and reading. We are all looking forward to having an accomplished author here with us at TX.

In last week’s newsletter, I explained the process for electing our TX House Captains for the year ahead. In this week’s assembly, the new captains were announced and took their place on the prominent seats at the front of the hall. The new House Captains are:

Our annual celebration of reading commencing next week, and we are

delighted that ADAM BUSHNELL will be visiting us from the UK. Adam is a published author and storyteller. Previously a teacher, he has worked in the UK and interna-

tionally in both state and private education.

Authors, Society for Storytelling, Children’s Discovery Centre,

and Equity.

INVADE & SETTLE, RAID & MEDDLE

The Vikings and the Anglo Saxons; some of the meanest and most menacing mad men that the world had ever seen. They invaded, they settled, they raided and they meddled . . . But what they did best was to tell stories. Meet the super hero Beowulf, the cruel King Nidud, foolish Frodi and many others.

FISHES’ CLAWS & DINOSAUR PAWS

What happens when a boy meets a very hungry witch. . . when an old man discovers some musical little people . . . when fire monsters try to keep the world feeling icy . . . ? Prepare to step into a world of witches, thieves, dragons, kings and some serious silliness!

THE KINGS OF ANCIENT GREECE King Midas...King Sisyphus... King Minos...These three kings were the craziest, cleverest and cruel-est of all of the kings of Ancient Greece. Their stories tell the ta-les of Heracles, Pegasus, Icarus, the dreaded Minotaur and many more famous mythical characters.

We have a limited number of Adam’s books here at TX. We will be selling them on a first come, first served basis, so buy early to make sure you don’t miss out. Due to an administrative

error, the books were advertised at the wrong price last week. Each book will cost VND 220,000. Adam will be available to sign copies of his books from 7:30am to 8am on Monday & Tuesday

and after school on Monday.

We are very fortunate to have Fahasa organising our book fair this year. The books will be on display in the library, and the children have been allocated a time when they can visit the book fair and see what is available. The teacher will take note of which books your child would like, and those books will be put to one side (or ordered). When you are picking your child up from school, you will be able to purchase and collect the books from the library.

EAL for Parents

Blogspot

This week has been one of preparation and looking ahead. In Milepost 1, this year, the children are going to

be using the blogs that were created for them in EYFS to ‘post’ their homework; it maybe BISCAT, a journal

entry or some photos of an achievement outside of school. In order to support parents with this, there was a

coffee morning on Wednesday to go over the skills needed to ‘post’ on Blogger or the Blogger app. If you

missed this, you can download a help sheet from my blog. We are also looking forward to ‘We Love Books’

next week. I love seeing the children dressing up as different book characters and the excitement of working

with a successful author from the UK. For further details, please refer to the ‘We Love Books’ pages of this

newsletter.

F2 visit a construction site

Newsletter Issue 5|7

F2 visited a construction site on Wednesday as part of their interest in building and machines. Before we set off to the construction site, we had a chat about what we would be looking out for when we got there and also shared the story ‘Tip, Tip, Dig, Dig’. There were three groups and three activities. Each group had snack, some time in the Imperia play area and also went up to Ms Grace's apartment to see the construction site. The children noticed cranes, diggers, tipper trucks and lots of workmen wearing helmets. Lots of children spotted that there weren't any road rollers and bulldozers and wondered where they were. The children also spotted soil, water and a man controlling one of the cranes. It was very exciting to see the cranes moving from left to right and up and down. There were lots of 'wows' when the children saw the construction site for the first time because it was so big and busy. What a lot of learning and fun! Ms Gurvinder and Ms Grace

The TX Musical Coffee Morning

8am, 8th October 2014

The TX Coffee Morning is approaching, and we need you to play your musical instrument! We have many wonderful and talented musicians at TX and the TX Coffee Morning is the best opportunity for you to display your musical skills. If you want to perform, please get a piece of music prepared and be ready to dazzle us all by the 8th October www.xmusic2014-2015.blogspot.com Here are some photos from last year's Musical Coffee Morning.

Mr. Robbie

The TX Musical Coffee Morning

Year 6 to PDV

We arrived at the PDV School by one of the school buses. It was incredibly different to our school. The classrooms and stairs they had were very cramped. They don’t even have any air conditioners! When we were settled in, we played an introducing game. It was very interesting getting to know each other. After that, we played charades (guessing an object, sport or animal without making any noise). The game was hilarious! Everyone enjoyed it so much! Later on, it was time to say goodbye. As we were leaving the heavens opened, however we managed to escaped to the bus without getting completely soaked. On the way home, when we were discussing the facilities and lives of the children at PDV, we started realising how lucky we are to have such an outstanding school and caring, fortunate families.

Ms. Kirstine

On Wednesday the children from PDV came to TX to begin their community project for this year. Children from 6X led activities for the PdV children, including an ICT task, a modelling task, a social group developing communication skills and a film making activity. The focus is very much on the children mixing and getting to know something about their, partners whilst developing their group leadership skills. All the children approached the afternoon positively and are looking forward to the next visit of the PdV children.

Eco Warriors

Eco-Teams are back on the job ….!

The Eco-Warriors and Eco-Scouts are back at work monitoring the empty classrooms at break and lunchtimes to make sure that elec-trical items and lights are switched off, paper is being recycled, and the class plant remains happy and healthy. The Green Certificate will again be awarded at the end of each month, so watch this space to see how the children (and their teachers) are getting on!

Reduce, reuse, recycle too; the Eco-Teams are watching you!

Holiday Programme

On Wednesday 24th September the U11 Basketball team played against TT AIS. The U11 boys team consisted of; Bao Tran, Anh Vu Dang, Pana Duong, Tyler Nguyen,Yoo Min Park, Khoa Tran, Gia Vinh Nguyen, David Nghiem, Andrew Vu and Rishi Ahuja. From the onset of the game the boys demonstrated a desire to win. Anh Vu and Andrew received some superb passes from Gia Vinh which culminated in several baskets being scored. Anh Vu’s rebounding also resulted in baskets being scored. TX dominated throughout the game and the end result was 14-0. The player of the match goes to Gia Vinh for his movement up and down the court. The U11 girls’ team consisted of; Jeanette Vo, Hannah Bui, Yu Gyeong Kang, Jamie Donnelly, Minh Nguyen, Susu Le, Kelly Tran. In the first half, the girl’s seemed to struggle organising their defence. However, once they got into the game both Jamie and Minh made some superb steals. Once the team had settled into the game the TX squad dominated the AIS team. Both Hannah and Jeanette rebounded with determination and stole the ball every time. The score at the end of the match was 6-0 to TX. The player of the match goes to Hannah for sup-porting all of the attacking play. Well done the TX team your hard work in training is paying off!! Sports Clubs Please can all students that have signed up for sports clubs before, during and after school wear their PE kit and sports shoes whilst taking part. This is for health and safety reasons. Thank you!
