SVCC President - Ray Marsh I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to be president and 3rd grade captain probably took on too much but someone had to do it. I have enjoyed seeing the young fellas coming through the grades so Adam Chitty thanks mate for all the work you have done with the juniors to get 3 sides in the finals was a great achievement. To Jenny Tie, Tania Brendish and Tracey Carrod thanks for coming back on board and doing arvo teas all the boys enjoyed them. To the ladies team we got up you are a bunch of legends even when you lost I never seen a team celebrate together when you got a wicket. To Phil Adams mate thanks bud for doing the coaching job again we knew it was going to be tough but we had too be-cause we all know the reasons why. To Stan Harrison , Noel Macham, Digger David Worthington, Mate Barbar-ic, and the rest of the committee thanks again for back-ing me. To our Sponsors a very big thank you with-out U all we wouldn't of got on this year.

Cheers Marshy 2

It’s been a long time since our club has released a season newsletter, especially on this scale but after everything that has been going on around the world of late and the disrup-tions caused to the end of our cricket season and to our anticipated club wind up we thought this to be a reasonable compromise.

We now see promising signs that after all of our recent sacrifices we will start to see things return to normal and we can look to get back to doing the things we love including playing cricket! But most important is the health and well-being of our members and their loved ones and we respect all of the necessary measures that have been put in place to keep us safe. We hope you are all coping ok but if not you have the avenues to get help so please ensure you seek it if necessary.

Please enjoy our 2019-20 Season Newsletter. It may be early but we invite you to consider the upcoming season and very much hope that you will be with us again!

Thanks from the Swan Valley Cricket Club Committee!

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors for season 2019-20

We can't thank you enough!

As always we implore our players and supporters to utilise the goods and services of our sponsors - without whom it would be impossible to run a turf club like ours. We want to show them a return for their investment in our club which hopefully will see an ongoing sponsor-

ship arrangement into the future!

AFL Grand Final Day – 28 September 2019

Always a great way to say farewell to the footy season, but hello to cricket is the AFL Grand Final event at the club. The 2019 event was huge, with families spilling out onto the grass, enjoying the fun and friendly atmosphere on offer. Competitions and raffles, kid’s entertain-ment, great food on offer @ the club and at Joey’s, as well as Happy Hour prices at the bar all day had the local community buzzing about the event and the club.

Oktoberfest Night (Senior men’s)

– 26 October 2019

As a welcome back event for the Senior men’s playing group, supporters and friends, a casual Oktoberfest themed night was thrown on the 26th October 2019. There were some great costumes getting around, good catering and heaps of fun for all involved.

Just have a look at these two! Comedy Night – 30 November 2019

For the first time ever, SVCC hosted a bevy of top class comedians for a night of laughs at the club, on 30 November 2019. The headliner Emo (of Emo-tainment) hand selected the best local comedians as well as a surprise International guest, Canadian Aliya Kanani, stopping in to entertain the crowd. Host Jon Pinder did a great job in between acts, as Millennium Marrion, David Tuffley and Haydn Tuia showcased why they are among Perth’s finest comedians. It was a night to re-member and plenty of Swan Valley families got involved. We look forward to the next Comedy night at the club!

Swan Valley CC Sponsors, Life members and Past players day

– 2 February 2020

It was a momentous day for Swan Valley Cricket Club as our Junior boy’s U/15’s team (home) and combined SVCC/SACC U/13’s girls (away) played in the morning, followed by the Senior men’s 1st Grade side playing their T20 game at the Val-ley, and the Senior Women’s team playing at our second home - Baskerville in the afternoon.

What better day to acknowledge our amazing sponsors, life members and past players. As Joey’s Swan Valley Diner served up some delicious sliders for all in attendance, kid’s entertain-ment was provided for those with littlies, and brilliant local live band “Less Than Zero” belted out some classic rock tunes.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, life members and past players, we couldn’t keep the club going without you!

Quiz Night – 22 February 2020

The famous Swan Valley CC Quiz Night always draws a big crowd, and this year it did not disappoint! In front of a

packed house, local comedian and Quiz Night host Cameron McLaren, dished out some clever trivia, with a few local

references mixed in there for good measure. It was a great success, with much needed funds raised for the Junior and

Senior men’s and women’s teams. As always, our fantastic club sponsors and prize donors (made up of a huge range of

local businesses) supported the night – something we are so grateful for! The great support and donations we receive,

ensures that everyone is a winner at the Swan Valley CC Quiz Night!!!!

Bunnings Community BBQs

We were lucky enough to secure three Bunnings Community

BBQ’s over the season, with important funds raised at each.

Thanks to all volunteers and suppliers that helped us out with

quality produce, and to Midland and Ellenbrook Bunnings for

allowing the club the opportunity to raise funds via their

Community BBQs.

SVCC also took part in the Toyota Good for Cricket

raffle once again, held raffles behind the bar and dur-

ing events, as well as promoted our ongoing car

battery drive to raise much needed funds for the

club. Thanks to everyone that volunteered their time

this season. YOU ROCK!

Battery Drive

We once again collected batteries to scrap for easy

cash for our club. If you have any dead batteries to

donate lease get in touch!

Report by Adam Chitty (SVCC Junior Coordinator)

It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in a position where we have to provide a cricket sea-

son wrap-up in print. However, for the time being this will be the new normal so we must just

get on with it. Overall this has been one of the most successful seasons I can remember, num-

bers are up, facilities are getting overhauled in the winter, girls cricket is taking off and our

boys and girls juniors now have a clear pathway with some of our 14’s and 15’s now playing

seniors cricket. On the field we have shown that the Swan Valley Juniors are a force not to be

underestimated. I’d like to thank all the individuals who have given so much for the junior

club this season, the committee, the parents, the sporting club and all its members, the

grounds staff, Joeys for being our Major Sponsor and to anyone else I’ve missed you know

who you are. To all, please stay safe, well and sane until next spring when I hope we will see

you all again. Happy cricketing. Adam

A huge thank you to Mel, Glen Wareing &

Joey’s for the amazing support and sponsor-

ship of our Swan Valley Cricket Club Juniors!

Co-ordinators Jayden Spackman, Sam Chitty.

For the second season the facilitation of the Junior Blast program was undertaken by two

of our juniors. This format of the game is a brilliant introduction to cricket for the 6 to 8

year old boys and girls without being too crickety. We started the season with about 12

kids and numbers grew steadily as its popularity grew. We finished the season with about

25 kids on the books and all looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. We also partic-

ularly liked seeing the parents make the most of the bbq facilities and just hanging out at

the club after the program finished at 6.00. True community. Special mentions go to Steve

Vigar and our juniors Jayden Spackman and Sam Chitty for all the great work you did with

the kids this season. Thanks boys.

Co-ordinator James Green.

For the second season James Green put his hand up to act as our facilitator

for the 8 to 10 year olds. This format is run between the Swan Valley and

Swan Athletic clubs as a WACA centre. It is meant to be a combination of

kids from several clubs but this year was only the Valley and the Ath with

representation. The format is the next step to formal cricket with 6 to 7

per side, plastic ball and stumps and limited bowling and batting. As a col-

lective bunch of kids they all looked to have a great time with an all-girls

team coming out of it and representing the centre at a gala evening playing

off against other centres back in early March. The girls managed to win one

from two against the boys. Nice work girls. Special mentions to James

Green, your passion and energy are infectious and Sandra for all your assis-

tance. Thanks guys - Adam.

Girls Cricket Coordinator - Sandra Hagerty

What a season it has been! The Junior Girls Master Blasters (joint team) have grown leaps and bounds

since the commencement of the program. The standout moment for this season was the WACA Gala

Day where the girls enjoyed a successful day and were fortunate to meet two Scorchers players. Huge

thanks must go to our Junior Girls Coach, James Green. James is encouraging and the girls welcome

Greenie as their coach for next season. Well done Greenie! Thanks to all parents from Swan Valley and

Swan Athletic for your continued encouragement and support of your girls in their cricket endeavours.

We look forward to seeing you all back next season.

Boys 13’s - Coach Adam Chitty

This team similar to the Girls 13’s is a 50/50 team with our neighbours. Thanks to Brad Atwood and Tex Webster for working with me to ensure these boys got on the park.

Curious season. We lost the first game, showing little talent, no patience and little natural leadership. At this point I was consigned to focussing on everyone having fun and ignoring the scores. How wrong I was. We had a bye the week after then won six of the next 7 games beating the best 3 teams in the competition on the way. The boys showed some bril-liant and focused teamwork, patient and mature batting and spells of devastating bowling from multiple players. I partic-ularly remember the looks of total disbelief as the boys cruised past, top team, Kalamunda’s total of 140 with 15 balls to spare, as they just could not bowl Jasper and Oli. Every single member of the team pitched in this season and I think eve-ryone will have some great memories of some special individual moments and team moments. It’s a shame that they didn’t play better in their semi-final against Ellenbrook but you get those days and on that day they were the better team. Massive pride should be taken by the whole team for even making it to finals. Well done boys.

I’m not fond of individual awards as it is united teams that generate the platform to have fun and win games. However, in line with protocol, and bearing in mind that no one player can take out more than one award.

This years trophy winners are:

MVP: Chaz Grisele

Batting: Oli Berry

Bowling: Kobe Miniter (Close one, Seb and Ben both had the same number of wickets but Kobe gets it on his average)

Coaches Award: Marshall Pymont

Special mentions:

To Oli, Marshall and Chaz for all they did as a leadership group. They were by far the most mature and organised leader-ship group I have seen at under 13’s level.

To all the parents, thank you for all the assistance you have provided this year. Without you guys it wouldn’t be nearly so much fun. On behalf of both Tex and myself a huge thank you goes out to Simone Grisele for all she has done for the team. She scored all season, championed the use of live scoring and sorted all the background details that are normally left to myself or Tex. On top of that her organisation on game day helped take the stress off set-up immensely. Thanks Sim

Wishing you all a safe winter.

Adam and Tex.

Girls 13’s (Swans) - Coach Rohan Tremlett

For the first time in the clubs history we managed to field an all-girls under 13’s team this season (all be it split

50/50 with our neighbours.) The regional girls cricket co-ordinator Michelle Vinning has done a great job this

year and was particularly focused on getting girls on the field regardless of club origin. As such the politics be-

tween the two clubs was kept to a minimum. As a team I believe they went without a win but were competitive

in all their games, well done girls great effort. All the girls looked to have enjoyed the season with all returning

next year and a couple of new girls showing an interest which will help to boost numbers. Special mention to

Rohan for coaching the girls this year. Love you’re passion and dedication, thanks mate.

Boys U14’s - Coach Glen Wareing

I was lucky enough this year to able to get to coach a great bunch of

young boys and I am sure future stars of our club.

After only looking like having 8 players before the season, we ended

up having 12 at the start of the first game . We had the youngest

team in the competition with 8 being able to play again next season

in u14.

The boys developed a lot during the season and we had by far the

most accurate and disciplined bowling and fielding side in the com-

petition but our batting at times was our Achilles heel, with us often

not batting our overs out and throwing away our wickets .

Two boys suffered broken bones during the year being Harrison

Sage and Ace Wareing, but both should be commended for still com-

ing to training and being a part of the team while injured.

There was some brilliant individual performances during the year,

Cameron Dilollo 99 n/o and a 4 for 9, Lucas Bufton 5 for 3 , Zac

Wareing 62n/o and 4 for 20 .

The boys beat every team at least once in the competition and eventually finished in second position. Unfortunately we

lost the home semi-final to a strong Ellenbrook side. However, the future is certainly looking the brightest it has in over a

decade for the Swan Valley junior system.

The culture and desire of the boys to one day represent Swan Valley in seniors is also really encouraging to see. Already

half the boys have played a few senior games and got a taste of things to come. I hope to play a few more games along-

side them too. Thank you to the senior boys for help the boys at training and to make them feel welcome. This is some-

thing the Valley does well. Many thanks for the help from Steve, Slaven, Allan, and Frank for your support throughout

the year.

This years trophy winners from all U14’s

junior formats are:

MVP Champion Player: Cameron Di lollo

Bowling Award: Lincoln Brooks

Batting Award: Blake Kelly

Coaches Award: Deegan Kirkness

Boys U15’s - Coaches Adam Chitty, Zac Kelly

What a massive roller coaster ride this season was. The boys scored some huge totals, played

on turf (some for the first time), threw games they should have won, closed out games that

looked unwinnable, took some incredible catches, fielded with intent, bowled with intent, be-

haved badly, behaved well, took us to three grand finals, got the opportunity to play at the

WACA, had the opportunity to play at the WACA removed, had games cancelled due to heat,

had games cancelled due to Covid 19, won a flag, missed out on playing two grand finals but

had a lot of fun on the way.

Looking at the MGJCA U15’s batting hall of fame page for the season, there were 10 individual

scores over 50 from all clubs combined. We have 5 of them from 4 different people. 54 and 51

Brodie, 58 Gary, 69 Josh M and 72 Josh C. There are plenty of others who I’m surprised didn’t

make that list but well done boys.

This years’ team had a huge amount of depth and each of them individually should be very

proud of how they played this season. I can quote the Sorrento coach from our community cup

T20 game as saying that they had not come up against a bowling and fielding side nearly as

talented and disciplined as ours and considered himself lucky to have just beaten us.

I’m so sorry the season ended the way it did. The grand final we had all been waiting all season

for against Swan Athletic never happened and the WACA game being cancelled were both

huge disappointments. There will be another opportunity to play at the WACA in the u17’s.

As many of you know I’m not fond of individual awards as it is a united team that generates

the platform to have fun and win games. However, in line with protocol, and bearing in mind

that no one player can take out more than one award.

This years trophy winners from all 15’s junior formats are:

MVP: Brodie Finlay 253 runs, 16 wickets.

Batting: Gary Russell 276 runs

Bowling: Bradley Saunders 15 wickets

Coaches Award: Ben Cappa

Special thanks goes to all the parents for your support, couldn’t have done it without you all.

To Zac Kelly, thank you for all you have done for me and the boys this season. I can’t tell you

how much I appreciate it, and great to have you around.

PSWL Spring Season

PSWL Summer Season

PSWL Season Report - Jade Demeza (Women’s Team Captain)

A Quick Wrap of The Women’s Cricket Team 2019/2020!

We came back into the new season with more knowledge of the game as well as experience and improved skills, that we defiantly showed all season! With only 6 games to play we started off strong with winning our first two games, followed by a loss, win and loss. Overall, we did

very well winning 3 out of our 6 games improving from our last season only having the 1 win. Every game was an individual and team challenge that we went in together.

Hannah and I were lucky enough to be selected as vice-captain and captain. It was a great experience and oppor-tunity for both of us. On that note would like to Thank all the girls for an amazing cricket season that was always full of laughs and fun. We have all become such wonder-ful friends on and off the field and I can’t wait for next season!!

To the leading men in the Team Allen and Mate, thankyou you for putting in all the time and effort with us all to improve our skills and teaching us the game of cricket. Also, to all the other men that helped us during the season with tips and training. To Noel Thank you for always supporting us and scoring each week we really do appreciate it.

To Kate and Marshy without you both we would not have a women’s cricket team, thank you for putting everything together to get it all started and giving us all the oppor-tunity to play cricket as well as the sponsors for giving us a steppingstone without your support this wouldn’t have been possible. Finally to Chris and AutoplusWA thanks very much for your support early in the season helping us get set up with our team equipment.

Next season can’t come quick enough, to get back out there with all the girls and all the new recruits!!

OD3 Grade Report - Noel Macham

The One Day Division 3 North Swan Valley side can

count themselves very unlucky to be denied a likely

premiership due to the season being cut short (for

reasons that we are all well and truly aware of)!

After an inconsistent first half of the season Jay Hy-

att and his troops stepped up a gear to finish in

fourth position on the ladder, defeating all teams

filling the top three positions in the previous few

weeks.

Stand out performers for the season were Captain

Jay Hyatt with the ball (31 wickets), All rounders

Matthew Johns (432 runs & 32 wickets) & Kane

Jeffries (253 runs & 29 wickets) and gun recruit and

local cricket legend Ray Keen who joined the team

late in the season but still managed to haul 292

runs and 7 wickets in 7 games. Jay, Matthew and

Kane all making WASTCA’s OD3 Team of the Year.

Others worthy of a mention were Daniel Water-

house with 278 runs and veteran Paul Jeffries who

was a significant contributor with the bat and

gloves.

From the SVCC committee’s point of view we

would love to see this team play more of a part in

our club off the field but their dedication to their

team and each other cannot be faulted. Many

could easily play in higher grades but their bond of

mateship is strong and it shows in how they play

for each other.

Thanks to Jay for leading the OD3 team once again

this season. We know that the other clubs

will be a little worried about this team next

season!

The 8th Grade team started the season off with a great win, in a one-dayer against Dou-

bleview Carine. Good knocks from Jonathan Gevers (38), Humair Memon (37*) and Digger

Worthington (25) set the pace for a total of 8-182. Wickets were shared around for the

Valley Boys in Doubleview’s innings, with the returning Nic Caroleo the pick of the bunch (3

-12), dismissing DC for 117.

Mixed fortunes in the following four rounds would see the Valley Boys scratching their

heads with what could have been. As Applecross easily beat the lads in Round 2, it was a

close one in Round 3 against Bassendean that could have (and should have) resulted in a

win for the Valley Boys. Chasing 145 for victory (Kory Booth 3-18), Valley got off to a flyer

with J Gevers (43) once again proving he

can take it to any bowling attack. Unfortunately only starts around him meant that with

wickets falling, it would be a tough task to reach the total. Valley ended up getting dis-

missed for 133, in a disappointing loss for the team.

Subiaco-Marist defeated the Valley in the following week, although in Round 5 lady luck

was in control and a forfeit from North Perth handed SV the victory. Early drinks were

called that day and it was around this mark of the season a new catch cry for the lads took

shape – Valley for Life (VFL)!

The following matches either side of the new year did not quite favour the boys in green,

although with some regular players unavailable, it provided the perfect opportunity for

some talented junior players to play senior cricket. Sam Chitty, Blake Kelly, Josh McElwee,

Zack Wareing, Deegan Kirkness, and Cam Di Lollo all stepped up in what is an exciting time

for the club. Well done boys!

In the Round 10 two-dayer against Bassendean, the 8 th Grade team was determined to

make up for the loss earlier in the season. This was evident with a fine display of batting

from J Gevers (63) and Kory Booth (29), with starts throughout the rest of the order,

setting a first innings total of 182. Bassendean felt the wrath of a couple of crafty veterans

in Noel Macham (4-17) and Adam Goodin (3-16), as a returning Kalem Hayes snared 3-11,

leaving the boys from Bassendean dismissed for 74 early on day two. The VB’s put Bas-

sendean in again, and despite tight bowling (2 wickets each to Macham, Goodin and

Hayes), couldn’t quite dismiss Bassendean for an outright victory. They ended up on 6-35

off 31 overs. VFL.

4-51 for Adam Goodin in Round 11, and a cameo from Swan Valley legend Steven Sage (30)

excited the fans against Applecross Cricket Club, but much like the drizzly weather condi-

tions, the result dampened the spirits of the boys in green.

Despite toiling hard, the last two rounds didn’t go the way of the green caps, but another

3fa for Adam Goodin (earning himself a spot in the Association 8 th Grade team of the

year) and 39 runs for Nic Caroleo against Ocean Ridge, provided some good entertainment

for those involved. The last match of the year was played in great spirit against the team to

beat in 2019/20 – Murdoch Melville Cricket Club. Unfortunately for those teams making

the finals, this was the last game that was played for the season. Special mention to first

year player Jack Barlow, who improved greatly over the season, party due to his keenness

to train and his drive to learn. Also a big shout out to those that played each week, our

rotating captains, those that played whenever they could, the returning players, veterans

and juniors that pulled on the whites and donned the green cap.

There has always been a great bond amongst this group, and it will continue to grow.

To start off I would like to thank the club for making me the 3rd grade captain this year. Then I would like to thank all boys that played under me this year it was tough but we had a lot of positives in our side and its hard when you only have played 7 games for the club and then you are captaining the second 11 in the club and getting them all on the same page but by the end of the year I think we all enjoyed each others company. To the positives to see Jade (charger) Moyles come to the club and improve during the year was a highlight thanks Corey Verco for working with him. To all the young Fellas including Mosedale, Spackman, Finlay, Roads, Wareing, the Chitty Boys and the Kelly Boys it was a pleasure to have you all in my side and to see you all back yourself was awesome and you lifted us old boys. I think if you all stick around we can build some-thing special over next few seasons. Also, a big thank you to these boys’ parents for running them around and also backing me whether they opened the bowling or opened the batting you had my back which makes it enjoyable. To Tanya Brendish thanks for the brilliant arvo teas this year. Last of all thanks to Deep for being my vice captain. Cheers Marshy

Another season down, and looking back on it at this point

As a coach, I was incredibly proud of the steps the club

took as whole. We continue our push back towards a family

-friendly club with great social initiatives, the expansion of

the junior cohort and the introduction of our inaugural

women’s team. I’m upbeat about the direction we’ve tak-

en, and it’s great to see the results coming off the field.

Unfortunately for the A grade side, it was a difficult year.

With a small exodus of core players at the end of last sea-

son, as well as plenty of travel and work commitments for

the squad as a whole throughout the season, it proved

difficult to get any consistency with our performances.

In true valley fashion, a few crucial moments in important

games didn’t go our way, which seemed to sum up where

the squad was at as a whole. There were some fantastic in-

dividual performances throughout the season, but unfortu-

nately it was a case of relying on too few, too heavily. A

Short and sweet as usual, but a huge thank you to the Committee again for their time and efforts. Cheers to Marshy in particular, being his first season in the President role. Despite the tough circumstances he was presented with when taking on the role, he’s done a great job with the rest of the Committee getting us to a healthier and happier place as a club. Big thanks again to Denise Spackman and her exquisite scorebook skills and also Jenny Tie for the wonderful afternoon teas!

Finally, thanks to Muzz, Stoney, Bob and everyone who helped out with the pitch and

ground. The feedback throughout the year was awesome. Looking forward to plenty more

runs and wickets on home turf next season.

Until then, hoo-roo!

Fantastic news that we've been successful in our application to WACA and the

Belt Up Helmets Program! Our club will be receiving a number of new approved

helmets for use by our players prior to the new season starting!

Thanks go the WACA and the Belt Up Program! 20

Our club has much to look forward to next season. Our junior club keeps going from

strength to strength thanks to the hard work of Adam and his strong band of volun-

teers. The upcoming season should see us back to having an U17’s team for the first

time in several years which in turn gives our senior club confidence moving forward.

The great success of our Womens program gives us a platform to improve on. With

the close bond of these players and their fast improvement we should see some sig-

nificant progress. We also hope that our Women’s cricket program will also inspire

more young girls to take up the game and expanding on our fledgling girls cricket

program will be a focus and we thank Sandra for championing this.

Our senior mens teams have struggled for some time with a lack of consistency and

depth but we see great signs that things are about to turn around with our quality jun-

iors players now pushing for positions in higher grades and performing well. Our

President Marshy and Coach Phil Adams will be quietly confident about the future!

As a club and committee we have worked very hard behind the scenes to improve

our brand as a club. With our commitment to the Good Sports Program we have

highlighted our desire to make our club a safer one for all of our players and support-

ers. We hope that this corresponds to more people being involved in our club both

young and old enjoying the game we love!

Finally, we have our Club AGM coming up in the next couple of months. Keep an eye

out for details. If you feel like you have something to offer our club and wish to join

our committee please get in touch!

Thanks from the SVCC Committee. Stay safe and well!
