4 th Grade News Week of March 4, 2019 READING *Target Vocabulary: acquire, unfortunate, coerce, boasted, beamed, glared, ceased, declared, devised, resourceful *Vocabulary Strategy: Adages and Proverbs *Comprehension Skill: Story Structure—Theme and Allusion *Comprehension Strategy: Questions LANGUAGE ARTS *Spelling Pattern: Prefixes re- , un-, dis- unused, refresh, dislike, replace unpaid redo, disorder, unplanned, distrust, rewind, untrue, unload, recall, displease, uneven, rebuild, restart, uncover, untidy, discolor. We will also focus on taking the third Diocesan Assessment. The students will take that test this Friday. No Simple Solutions Quiz this week! SCIENCE This week, the students will complete a solar system scavenger hunt. We will read and discuss two articles about the sun and the moon. The students will learn about the phases of the moon. SOCIAL STUDIES This week, the students will complete their, “Before Statehood,” research. The students will learn about the three Illinois Capitals. They will write a paragraph stating if they agree that Springfield should be the capital of Illinois and they will make a poster depicting why they think so. RELIGION This week, we begin the Lenten season. We will begin a unit study about this Liturgical season. The students will learn about the origin of the word Lent, they will list and summarize stories of the Bible that Mention the number forty. If you have not done it, please send in $8.00 with your child to cover the cost of the bus and play of “Narnia.”

CIENCIAS SOCIALES Esta semana, los estudiantes completarán su investigación "Antes de la estadidad". Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre las tres capitales de Illinois. Escribirán un párrafo indicando si están de acuerdo en que Springfield debería ser la capital de Illinois y harán un póster que muestre por qué creen que sí.

RELIGION Esta semana, comenzamos la temporada de Cuaresma. Comenzaremos un estudio de unidad sobre esta temporada litúrgica. Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre el origen de la palabra Cuaresma, enumerarán y resumirán las historias de la Biblia que mencionan el número cuarenta.

MATEMATICAS Esta semana, continuamos trabajando en la multiplicación de fracciones con el mismo denominador. También nos enfocaremos en la tercera evaluación diocesana. Los estudiantes tomarán este examen este viernes. No habrá examen de Soluciones Simples esta semana.

CIENCIAS Esta semana, los estudiantes completarán una búsqueda del tesoro del sistema solar. Leeremos y discutiremos dos artículos sobre el Sol y la Luna. Los estudiantes aprenderán acerca de las fases de la Luna.
