Prim Primary 1 Intended Learning Plan Jan-Mar 2019 What will we be learning this term? In Health and Wellbeing this term, the focus will be on ‘get active’. The children will learn that looking after the body and mind is important for our health. Taking part in regular exercise brings many benefits to our physical and mental health. This is part of the ‘Being Resilient’ Programme of study that our school follows. Please remember to complete your homework task with your child. In Gym, Primary 1 are lucky to have gym this term with Mr Devine, our school P.E specialist. Our focus in class gym will be on Scottish country dancing and gymnastics. We will be developing the following skills: - Rhythm, working with a partner - Balancing, rolls, jumps and landing Please ensure that your child has a gym kit for a Monday and Friday. Language - Reading, Writing, Listening and Talking Numeracy and Maths Health and Wellbeing Science/ Technologies In literacy, the pupils will continue to learn the sounds of the alphabet and the vowel digraphs. They will say and make the action for each sound/digraph and begin to blend the sounds together to make words. They will also continue to access a range of active learning language resources to help enhance their learning. Through listening and talking activities, pupils will participate in show and tell. Your child will come home with a bag when it is their turn. They will be able to demonstrate their blossoming speaking skills, and how they can be a good member of an audience. Pupils will continue to bring home a reading book each week. Please continue to spend time with your child reading their book. In science, we will be investigating electricity. We will learn about things that use electricity, and how to keep ourselves safe around electricity. The pupils will continue to use ipads in the classroom and try to log on independently. They will also use the smartboard as a tool for learning within different curricular areas. Our focus this term is Barefoot computing where the children will be introduced to simple programming skills and the use of algorithms. In numeracy, the pupils will continue to explore numbers and their formation. They will look at the number before and after, number recognition and ordering numbers to 30. They will also be counting items in two collections, and continue with counting forward and backwards from a given number. There will be a focus on: - time – we will look at day/night, days of the week, months of the year, seasons and telling the time on the hour (o’clock). - money – recognising coins (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2) and counting out a given amount up to 20p.

• Gym on a Monday and Friday. Can you ensure that your child has a gym kit in school on these days. Children should have a t-shirt, a pair of shorts/joggers and indoor gym shoes all labelled.

Remember to return your child’s library book every Wednesday (P1A) or Thursday (P1B/P1C) so that they are able to choose another book.

In art, the pupils will be experiencing a range of craft activities. They will be exploring the work of an artist and recreating their own impressions using a similar technique.

In music and dance the children will be listening to Scottish music and participating is some simple Scottish dancing.

Through drama, they will continue to learn to play, participate and follow instructions.

In RME, we will be looking at the following celebrations.

- Chinese New Year. - Easter - Holi

The children will take part in different activities related to these celebrations.

This term our Topic is Fairyland. The children will be exploring and identifying common features of traditional Fairy Tales. A friendly dragon will visit the classrooms and ask for the children’s help to rebuild fairyland. As part of this topic, if you would like to create a magic castle using an old shoebox or cereal box then that would be great. All the items used in the making of the castle should be from recyclable materials e.g kitchen roll holders, yogurt pots. Your child can bring it in at share it with their class if they would like to.
