Thank you Yr 6 2015

New MJPS sun shelters and house flags have arrived! The flags will be very handy and used at our school sport carnivals and at sun shelters at Gala Days and Zone carnivals. The sun shelters and the house flags were a thank you present from our 2015 Year 6 students. The students raised the money through their efforts at last year’s mini fete. Thanks Year 6, 2015!

Year 6 T- Shirts

The Year 6 students are very excited to receive their new Year 6 t-shirts today! What a nice surprise for their first day back! A huge thank you to the Year 6 parent committee who organised the t-shirt order for our students. They look great!

Sports Information

PSSA Winter Sport Trials

PSSA and Winter sport will commence in Week 3 on Friday 13

th May 2016. Trials for Junior and Senior PSSA

Rugby League, Netball and Soccer will be held this week on Thursday 28

th and Friday 29

th February on the

school paddock. Junior Teams will be selected from students who are in Year 3 and Year 4. Senior Teams will be selected from students who are in Year 5 and Year 6. When selecting students during tryouts, consideration will be given to those who display ability and strong skill level on the day of the tryouts. Students will need to wear the appropriate sports uniform on these days. The school will provide relevant sporting equipment and protective gear. If Rugby League players have a mouth guard, they are to bring it to the trials. If students would like to participate in the Rugby trial, it is recommended they bring their mouth guard. Students trying out for soccer should bring their shin guards if they have them.

P&C Meeting

Our next P&C meeting and first one for Term 2 Term will be held on Thursday 5th May at 7pm in the Library. This meeting will also be Mr Ackerman’s last meeting as Principal.

MOTHERS DAY STALL

Mothers Day is fast approaching - Sunday 8th.

Our annual Mothers Day stall will be on Friday 6th May. There will be gifts for sale for $5 and $7. There are also limited gifts for $3. Children will be able to purchase one gift only for the special mother/nana/aunty or special carer in their life. If gifts remain children will be advised and can purchase these during recess. We will need volunteers to run the stall from 8.30am to 11.30am. Please email [email protected] if you can assist.

UNIFORM SHOP

There have been slight price increases to our Uniform Shop prices. The new price list will be distributed via Skoolbag and is also available from the Office. Note that we have not increased prices for several years. The price increases reflect the increases in the wholesale cost of the uniform.

Opportunity Class (OC)

Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving Year 5 and 6 academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropri-ate level.

Parents normally apply when the students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full-time in Years 5 and 6 at the primary school with an opportunity class. It is a two-year placement program. In the majority of cases, students who accept a place in an opportunity class will leave their current school to attend the school with an opportunity class.

Parents apply online from the Unit’s website at the following link: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement and read the instructions carefully. You will register to receive a password and then log in to complete the application and submit it. Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive an email with a copy of your application containing your child’s student number.

Year 4 students should have received a note last term. If parents have any questions they should make an appointment with Ms Glenn (Year 4 Relieving Assistant Principal).
