Dear 8th Grade Parents,
I am excited to share the details of our 8th grade Science field trip that will
be taking place in April. Students will be leaving Kaohsiung American School
for Kenting on Friday April 13 at 8:15am. We are planning on arriving at our
place of lodging, the Kenting Youth Activity Center before noon. Students will
be placing their belongings in their rooms and eating lunch before heading to
the Kenting National Forest Recreation Center. We will spend Friday afternoon
hiking a bit and visiting amazing Earth Science related natural features such as
the Fairy Cave, the Stalagmite Cave, the Silver Dragon Cave and the One-Line
Sky. The hiking trail and natural features located at the Kenting National Forest
park have well maintained walkways and trails as well as safety barriers to
keep visitors out of unsafe areas.
After our visit to the National Forest we will return to the Youth Activity
Center for dinner. After dinner students will have some down time to socialize,
play board games, and socialize. The next morning we will have breakfast at
the Youth Activity Center and then pack up our belongings and depart for the
National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium. This aquarium is one of the
best in all of Asia and we are very lucky to be in such close proximity. It is
home to rare species of marine life and as well as a large Whale Shark. We will
also tour the Ancient Ocean exhibit that demonstrates the birth of the Earth,
the formation of ancient oceans, and the evolution of marine organisms. We
will depart the aquarium around 3pm and make our way back to Kaohsiung
American School; we plan to arrive around 5:30pm.
Your student’s safety is my number one priority; students will be closely
monitored by chaperones. A printed itinerary with contact numbers and a
suggested packing list will be coming home to you next week. The cost per
student is NT$1500 and will be due in Science Class on March 30, 2012.
