Our first Governing Council meeting was held in week 10 and I would like to congratulate the
following members for being elected to their roles for 2019:
Jo Adler-Chairperson
Russell Partridge - Deputy Chairperson
Adam Patterson -Treasurer
Prashant Joshi - Deputy Treasurer
Lisa Morgan, Janine Joy and Jenn Roberts - sharing the secretary duties
Our Governing Council have also endorsed a Pupil Free Day on Monday 29th April so that our
staff can spend the first day of term 2 deepening their understanding of differentiated
learning strategies to help them cater for the wide range of learners in their classes.
This week our formal learning conversations have been taking place. Opportunities for
students, parents and teachers to discuss student achievement and set goals for the
remainder of the year are important. In fact, we encourage parents to have these
conversations any time throughout the year to keep engaged with their child’s learning and
support the fabulous work that our teachers do.
It has been a great first term. I wish everyone a safe and restful
break and I look forward to what is shaping up to be a great term 2.
Kind Regards
John Iannunzio

ROUND 1 BOYS SAPSASA KNOCKOUT CRICKET
ROUND 1 GIRLS SAPSASA KNOCKOUT CRICKET
Magill School 6/95 defeated Linden Park Primary School 9/74.
On a cool morning the year 6/7 boys cricket team won the toss and chose to bat. Facing some quick bowlers Magill made a cautious start to be 0/35 from the first ten overs. Our openers were retired at the end of the twelfth, with Aayan - F5 (15*) and Josh - F1 (5*). A couple of quick wickets followed and slowed the scoring, but some strong stroke play from Nick - F15 (14) and Kamaal - F3 (14) pushed our total to a competitive 6/95 from our 25 overs.
After a strong defensive start from Linden Park, Finn - F1 (3/8) was introduced to the attack with instant results, breaking the partnership with the last ball of his first over. This triggered a small collapse, as Magill had Linden Park 4/25 after the tenth over. Some tight slow-left-arm spin from Aayan - F5 (3/9) further restricted the batting side as they struggled to 7/34 by the end of the seventeenth over. Some late hitting saw the opposition manage to get to 9/74, with Magill winning by 21 runs.
A great all-around performance from the boys, but some useful learning to take away from the match as we now prepare for our second round against the winner of Marryatville and Burnside.
Magill School 7/77 Defeated by Stirling East Primary School 3/102.
Competing against some more experienced cricketers, the Magill team was mostly made up of first-timers. The progress seen in training sessions over the previous weeks had everyone excited and keen to get on with the match.
Winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Magill were quickly on the back foot, with SEPS 0/42 from the first ten overs and demonstrating strong technique and communication. Our bowlers stuck to it eventually broke through for a run out in the thirteenth over. This boosted spirits and not long after Zara - F14 (1/21) and Georgia - F5 (1/16) both took wickets. Some tight bowling from Ava - F1 (0/11 from 5 overs) at the death restricted SEPS to 3/102 from twenty-five overs.
SEPS opened up with some strong, quick bowling, quickly having us 1/13 after five overs. It was very pleasing to see each of the girls look more and more comfortable at the crease the longer they spent in the middle. Ultimately 102 was a little too much to chase down, with the Magill innings ending at 7/77 (25), with the majority of wickets falling to Run Outs in the quick pursuit of runs.
A very good performance from the first Magill Girls Cricket team, hopefully all enjoyed themselves and can take something away from the experience.
